Brent is so lovely, and talented, and...well, he WAS super hot. Now he's old enough to be my grandfather, so I can't say that he's beautiful anymore. But still, gorgeous voice, gorgeous man, hilarious personality, GREAT talent. I love him so much!
I wonder how much of this Brent Spiner actaully had to learn in order to act it out. Regardless, he shows some incredible talent as a human being here! On the opposite end of the spectrum, it's amazing to see Data struggling with whistling in the first episode - amzing what way he's come (and proof that even androids need to practice!)
Brent is awesome, really! But no one is playing a high note!!!! EVER!! They're on the other side of the instrument! And now that I've noticed this it's bugging me! Grr.
sorry to say, he isn't. I believe he might have some experience playing the instrument but not to the caliber that is here. I think he plays the piano though.
I really wish this looked real... unfortunately the only way to make someone look like an excellent player is for them to actually be one. That's why they used CG to put other people's bodies onto Joshua Bell's hands for the Red Violin.
Hnh. Never realized there was quite this much music in TNG. Or that Data picked up the violin that often. Heh. I like it. Following the post-Buffy era, when most TV shows are awash in either Pop or Emo [and I use the term as is here, not as an insult], it's nice to hear a bit of Classical music every now and then. And, for me, nothing tops the violin.

I read in an interview that Brent Spiner can only play the guitar.
Amazing how well he faked playing the other instruments.
Data is the best character ever in Star Trek....period!!

Bit of a fail at 2:27, to be overly critical.
Since I've played Violin I can also kinda tell, but still.

At 5:01 it's Passacaglia for Violin and Viola, by Johan Halvorsen (late 19th century), based on an earlier work by Handel

The name of the song in the second half of the concert in "Sarek" is Sextet No. 1 in B-Flat Major.
I found the song under iTunes store as:
String Sextet No. 1 in B-Flat Major, Op. 18: II. Andante, Ma Moderato

Starting at about 8:22 you can hear a little snippet of the opening theme when the violin is warming up.
