Roger Moore added a classy humor to the role, honestly you cant take "the bond films too seriously" obviously he entertained enough to be the only knighted bond , Sir Roger Moore
Only Roger Moore kept it light. No stress. Just watching him take down every bad guy who stood in his way of delivering the viewer from every threat we saw coming his way. Its when they got serious that we get serious and stressed-out over some fictional storyline. We have enough real-world threats to deal with today. Let the serious remain in the real world.
Sean Connery might be the King of James Bond movies but I think Roger Moore was the best Bond and he had better movies . For Your Eyes Only was my favorite........
Roger Moore is the man !!!!! Thanks for posting the movie and not some stupid slide show or bullshit with the movie title like so many other douche bags ... Thanks for an awesome movie!!!
Roger Moore is the man !!!!! Thanks for posting the movie and not some stupid slide show or bullshit with the movie title like so many other douche bags ... Thanks for an awesome movie!!!
finally someone who understands what I have been thinking for the last 3 years,
a litle cgi couldn't hurt anyone, but when it starts taking over the movie and draw away the attention from the actors, then is when it starts getting bad,
@macachochoes Brosnan was good but I still think Roger Moore (And I know i'm in the minority on this one) was the best Bond. That's who I grew up seeing play bond back in the 70's/80's & I still think all those films are better than most of the earlier & later films. Nothing against Connery or Dalton or Craig though. They are good too. I think it's really just a matter of who you grew up seeing in the role.
@vodude Minority? You're smoking crack. Moore was old, stiff, wooden and had the worst movies to boot.
Connery defined the role. Lazenby could have been good with practice--he had the real world background in SAS. Dalton and Craig had the sociopathy, and Brosnan brought the je n'est c'est quoie. Moore was just lame.
Yeah man I agree with you, even stranger is I do not know anyone other than myself who thinks roger moore is the second best bond after daniel craig, with dalton coming in at 3rd place for me, license to kill being a really underated bond film, and live and let (moore) die also
I agree with you growing with Moore as bond was awesome, he added the slyness to bond and with fims like moonraker, for your eyes only and view to a kill were just simply fantastic!
@vodude I think I belong to the same minority because I agree that Roger Moore was the best James Bond. He was the one who was really british and had the typical british sense of humor. Thanks for this opportunity. I'm one of his brazilian fans. Hugs.
@vodude well i grew up watching brosnan and he fitted the role perfect i think, hes handsome, he could do serious but also funny unlike dalton and the films were good, well goldeneye was the best brosnan film i think, although i did actually like tomorrow never dies as well, hell i liked all brosnan ones, roger moore though is very good at the playboy type of bond, he does humor the best and i think if i was bond thats how id be, craig is cold like an assassin bond, dalton was OK
@vodude ian fleming actually wrote bond as a cold like assassin, the type daniel plays, i dont really like that type of bond though, good for action though, connery was cool, roger moore was the funny charming one, dalton was.. the worst but he still did ok i think, just not as good as the rest and brosnan could do it all but he wasnt better than connery in the cool department, he wasnt better than connery at charming and humor, but brosnan could do a bit of all imo 1. moore 2. brosnan
@vodude 3. connery (who i think is a bit overated as bond) 4.craig 5.dalton i havent actually seen on her majestys secret service so i wont put lazenby in this list, although i will say the soundtrack for on her majestys secret service is very good. But people have different tastes and like different types of bond, im sure some love craigs bond better than connerys cool bond, some love rogers charming bond over brosnans jack of all trades master of none bond each to their own i guess
I love how the soldiers were trying to close the doors so the plane crashed, therefore sealing their own deaths! makes no sense, but only Bond moview can get away with it! Love it. Thanks for uploading btw :) one of my fave Bonds
the newer bonds are just SO SERIOUS, i mean, the 80's were a bit campy, but there were so much more FUN. Plus, may he rest in peach, John Barry's music has been SORELY missed.
This Model work is 1 TRILLION times better then the CGI of 2011.... no contest the whole hanger scene, looks better then anything today, more realistic! You cant even tell its a model... now every scene you can 100% tell its cgi
Roger was easily the Best Bond! If you like a "goldfinger style" 007 film? Octopussy is he BEST version of that! Nobody did it better then Cubby - Roger - John Glenn, that team kills any other Bond actor or Bond era!
My two favorite Moore films are TSWLM and FYEO. He was fine in OP, but it should have been his last one due to his age. Now I'm not saying he was the best Bond, but he's definitely my favorite because that's who I grew up with--nostalgia I guess. Even today, when Bond is mentioned, Moore is who I picture in my mind first.
For Your Eyes Only actually is very fine Bond movie and a step back into the more spy oriented genre with Cold War villains instead of megalomaniacs which want to build new civilizations in space.
Octopussy also was a commercial success in 1983, and it works well on its own.
@McLarenMercedes Mmmmeh!! The films just started to look different by this stage. Louis Jordan does not have sense of menace. You don't feel afraid of him. If the villain ain't working neither is the picture. Everything started looking very over lit and cheap.
@roquefortfiles I like Louis Jordan. Always found him chilling. Actually despite some silly bits Octopussy was my favourite growing up. It felt exotic, the romance felt grown up due to the realistic age gap and Adams' charisma, and the music is just beautiful.
Live and Let Die is good too, but Man With The Golden Gun? Looked cheap, midget villian, third nipple, awful Goodnight, slide whistle on best stunt, boring story, ONE henchman in lair, that AWFUL deputy back! Horrid. Waste of Chris Lee.
@greyztone Mmmeh!! I am a child of the 70's. I grew up with Bond from 73 to 83. I still say the 70's movies are better made films. (for Moore) I know what you are saying about Sheriff "Peppa!!" and stuff like that. The look of the Bond films changed after the 70's. They started to "Look" cheap. Hard to explain. I just know if i go to grab a Bond DVD for a night if its a Moore era one it is NEVER anything after 79.
I still marvel that they got that title past the censors!!
@roquefortfiles Fair enough. I was an 80s kid so if anything the 70s ones always looked a bit dated to me, especially Bond's suits! No real prejudice though.
Moore films for me would go something like - Octopussy, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Spy Who Loved Me, View to a Kill, Golden Gun, Moonraker (yuck)
Various pros and cons with each and some have sentimental value. Actually can't think of any pros for Moonraker. Complete mess of a film.
@greyztone They over did Sheriff Pepper in MWGG. But how on earth could you hate a guy with lines like... "We got us a swamp full O black russians driving boats to beat the damns down here boy" ....
I mean come on. That is a classic!! And i quite liked Mr Big as a villan. I think Yaphet had a great sense of menace. Very under rated baddie. Bond's nemesis really needs to be his equal as a baddie. You need to feel Bond is up against it. The latter Bonds i never felt that.
@roquefortfiles Yeah, I love Live And Let Die. That's why I put it second in my list! And I actually like Pepper in it. I mean he fits, he's part of the local colour and he's funny. It's him turning up randomly in Golden Gun that's so offensive. He has no point so his lines are excruciating.
I liked Mr Big too. The finger chopping scene where he gets all shouty then takes off his face. And his treatment of Solitaire. Nasty. Wish they hadn't toned down the final fight for Moore though.
@greyztone " Tee hee of the fuurst wrong answer you will snip the little finger of Mr Baaaaard's... right hand. Starting with the second wrong answer... you will proceed to the more vital areas"'
What i like about LALD is the great framing and classic images. Its hard to explain. The kind of great images you see when its advertized on late night movie. The shots of Mr Big Turning around and smiling with the Dart gun. The classic images. You don't get those with the newer films.
that scene at gas station(if you can call it that) was based on a real incident for the stunt pilot korky Fornoff in a BD5-J... running out of fuel landing on a highway and using his momentum down the off ramp into a station rolling over the hose ding dinging the bells at the pumps(remember those?)...
I want to make love to roger moore for 48 hours straight. OMG what a hunk... I was a baby when this film came out but I'd give anything to kiss him now!!
This film was released 1 year after the Falklands war, they don't mention the country Bond is in but it's fairly obvious where he is, there are many clues throughout the scene if you look carefully.
Actually , the first and truly established, respected and recognized Bond was played by Roger Moore- The rest are after the fact, including but not limited to Sean Connery!
There is no such thing as best Bond. Bond is Sean Connery the rest are fill-ins or Bond make overs. However, cinematography wise there are better Bond movies than the Sean Connery movies, with better techniques and CGI's and all.
@pryt86 The mission was probably to blow up the hangar. You see where Bond knocks out the soldier he then puts some device in and then the real Colonel Toro catches him and then he is found out to be a saboteur.
I can't really pick a favorite Bond. But all I can say Is that, If I had a least favorite It would probably be Lazenby. But only because he was only In one film. I don't think you can really count that as an excuse. So what I'm saying Is I can't say either way, because James Bond the character Is my favorite..character. I do not put anyone of the actors down for playing him. I never give Roger Moore a hard time, because I enjoy his bond movies no matter how outlandish some of them seem.
It's my guess that this scene takes place in Cuba. The wine and cheese crowd at the horse racing event is in the Guantanamo sector. I realize I may be way off here. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I've always wondered about this scene's geography.
it would make sense for it being in cuba, as the uniforms look cuban, his identity card is in spanish, and they speak spanish, so cuba seems like our best bet
not a favourite of mine.i m a bit inclined to this movie bcoz i m an indian n i can proudly say bond visited india!hope he had enjoyed his stay at monsoon palace barring diet problems!
@dez10ify - fidel doesn't even try to sneak a peek. he strait stares at her chest while he is standing next to her. but i guess it doesn't really matter when you are a dictator.

Always loved this song.
Is it just me, or is it impossible to look at the title of this movie without laughing or at least giggling a bit? ;)

What utter nonsense. Why should they be wearing their parachutes? Did anybody notice that those Cuban soldiers are using M 16?

Bond trying to get the guards on the truck to check out the hot girl driving by is one of my favorite Roger Moore moments!

The guy flying the jet is J. W. "Corkey" Fornof. He will be in Sebastian Florida on November 6th flying an air show.
