I am thinking about doing this on the first of August this year. I don't want to fly from Oklahoma and not be able to secure a permit. I wouldn't mind if the permit were at Pelton Basin or Basin Creek, but I would prefer Sahale. I would do this on a Friday or a Saturday and spend 1 to 2 nights(probably at 2 different locations). What do you think my odds are in getting a permit to where I want? BTW, my wife teaches HS Calc and Alg, likes to hike, but she won't backpack.
Hey Spirobulldog, I would contact the ranger station at Marblemount, WA, for a permit. If you contact them this early I'm sure you'll have your pick of days. At th place where I filmed this, there were 6 sites.
If you carry the backpack, you and your wife could do it. It is one of the most magical places I've had the opportunity to experience. Let me know how it goes.
