I was born too late -and,maybe,born too young(Wat de f'k do I -or U know ???!!!!)missed the original QMS. ....BUT at least got to see John Cipollina WITH NICK GRAVENITES(Big Bro')in a small club in some '(Baby)London hellhole....Couldn't get much better!xxxxcreashonrebel
Pure "Mind Candy"....Got two of their vinyl albums, wish I could have seen them back in the day, yet they have already created memories for me of a concert in my head that never was..

Capitol would not let them use the full name "Acapulco Gold and Silver" for their 1st album. Even though their record listed this as "Gold & Silver", we knew about Acapulco Gold. Best weed back in the 60's.
Walking or driving down the Fillmore, Gough, Guerrero , and other to get Mission district, I have not found anything, but only imaginary a ghost of the era. Well, San Rafael has only old hippie people store and Arcata, Humboldt County. does old spirit alive now a day. Ohh Berkley too(:<
@sparkyization Cippollina had his own unique during that era and location when other players were flailing at the guitar with poorly executed cliched riffs. His use of the whammy
bar for vibrato is unigue to this day. An underrated guitarist. Let's not forget him.
I'm 56, bought Happy Trails when I was 16 & still love it.
When my best bud's brother returned to L.A. from Pacific Grove with this LP. We knew somethin' was up musically. This sure wasn't the Beatles. Sure, there was "the Sound" but QuickSilver had nailed it. Everyone else tried to emulate it at first until they distilled into their own styles (like Garcia/Balin)
Strains of Gold & Silver" & Pride of Man" streaming out of a 2nd story cuppola on Fillmore or Geary truly captured the ambience of what was happening then & QuickSilver led the way ;-)
Matrix was a great place. Small club in the Marina area first opened by Marty Balin where his band The Jeferson Airplane started, all the SF played there & others & lot of Bands & Action at
@6749er Cippolina and his free flowing guitar playing,...gives Jerry Garcia sime friendly competition. KSAN freeform radio. time to face stupid reality again.
Bill, Take Five is in 5/4 (from where it gets its title. This tune here is in 6/4 time and although i sort of see what you're getting to, I'm not sure it can said to be a matrix of influence.
The original song is on the album/cd 'Quicksilver Messenger Service' which I believe you can still purchase. The album contains: Pride of Man, Light your Windows, Dino's song, Gold and Silver, Too Long, and The Fool.
It is my favorite of the band's and reminds me a lot of Dave Brubeck's 'Take Five.'
This song rocks so much! Anyone know where i can listen to an album version of it? I don't have enough money to buy the album and just have to listen to it!
Nice Job. Lived in the Haight and upstairs where I lived a guy who worked at the Filmore had the entire room ( Walls and ceilling) covered ! He had a steamer trunk and he would give me some posters that he had doubles of. Man.
cool video...i only have like three of these posters and 5 0r 6 hanbills/postcards so it's neat to see them all in one place...isn't there a Silver Surfer QMS David Silver poster? i think one of my ex-girlfriends made off with it..oh well...ciao for now..thanks for puting up this great forgotten song and the accompanying vids..ben.
EXCELLENT POSTING, a similar Take-Off from Dave Brubecks' "TAKE Five" (A JAZZ Movement), however, utilizing the Jazz-Chording as a Basis Q.M.S.,'Wrapped the Sound, back -around' into a Unique Composition! GREAT USAGE of the Old MATRIX, FILLMORE W.& AVALON Ballroom Posters for a Collage! Keep 'em Comming!! Thanx!
great song! Love the intro and early transitions.

I named my cat Acapulco back then----he was a red- orange stripped morris cat..
What a far out 60's sound---this group was great. Miss that time and
am glad that I was there to experience it.

Thanks-Nice to see Murry get some appreceation-He was there from the start through "The Summer of Love" in 1967 when they were a 5 man band.
I see lot of people talking about the "original" 4 man band pre-Dino.
Jim left before the first recored so lot of folks don't know he was there.
Great looking at posters of shows I was at
was some High Times in the Wild West.
QMS was Classic.

waaaaayy far out song.sounds like airplane +doors+early santana.thats one uber psychedelic sound.
Pwonts94 3 years ago 2
Sounds like just one band to me.
Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The 1965-1968 SF-Fans Fave one.
(Pre-Dino & his lame act.)
I was there saw all of the bands.
Nobody sounded like QMS, but them.
That sound is theirs' they invented it.
They had this sound before there was a Doors or Santana, with due respects to them who had their own sound. Like the Dead & Aoirplane did too.
This is unique QMS & Yep they
had a The Quintessential QMS Psychedelic San Francisco Sound
