@drunkmonkeykungfu Actually this was the third film he directed - his first was the Charles Bronson / James Coburn film "Hard Times" in 1975, and the second was 1978's "The Driver" starring Ryan O'Neal & Bruce Dern. Prior to these he had written the screenplays for several films, and also worked as an assistant director in the 1960s.
In addition to the late Don LaFontaine doing the main voiceover, the ending voiceover was the late Howard Reig (formerly the voice of "NBC Nightly News").
@level242 Yo! I heard the same thing, too. The problem about the remake is that it's gonna take place in Los Angeles instead. It would be a lot wiser if it takes place in Chicago instead.
I remember c-in' that b-in' advertized on stations like WOR-TV,WPIX-TV,n' WNEW-TV Metromedia on a Saturday afternoon when I wuz in the middle of 3rd grade.

I love this movie and Michael Jackson's video Bad. Now I know which inspired Bad. I hope another gang movie comes out.
