  • Not enough steam pressure on that whistle.

  • The three- to four-chime is a good way to sound multiple notes on one whistle valve, simple and effective. J. L. Jones tested a five-tube progressive whistle during his last year at the Illinois Central, a design that became popular on other railroads after his death at the throttle of #382 on 30 April 1900---short-flagged and not enough braking room with Train 1 at Vaughan, MS, where a freight fouled the high iron.

  • Hey Andrew, it's Seth

  • SWEET!!!

  • That is cool!!!

  • oh i love No.6 she is strong i watched thunder with 6 coaches

  • A beautiful whistle

  • I think thats what you blow at a crossing. just kill the short whistle at the end.

  • Did you guys ever do a heavy rebuild on no.6.I noticed that the whistle is mounted in a steam dome.

  • @bnsf261 isn't No.6 back on the rails but when i saw her she wasn't at her full she struggled and just stopped on a sharp incline only a 1 in 151

  • Hey Andrew is that a diesel in the foreground.

  • Yeah, thats the "Mule." It's a little narrow gauge Plymouth diesel that came from a mine somewhere. Used to switch stuff in the winter or if the engine needs towed to the roundhouse from inside the park somewhere.

  • @adean1987 cool I just bought 2 5 chime whistles on ebay one CB&Q and one GN and he told me they sound fine on compresed air I see that is in fact the case not like steam but still cool sounding good looking replica 4-4-0

  • "It is the only one built (currently). VERY pleasant whistle!" not quite -- MD built one for himself, also, I believe... That makes yours one of two -- but the only "production" model, sure :)

  • Geez Walsh, Do you always have to get technical? Don't make me get the broom ha ha.

  • Nice whistle. Mike Daugherty makes some good quality whistles. I hope to get one soon. I think you should mount a hooter on the Tommy G. while running down the line, at least for a short bit. I love these crown locomotives for some reason. They give you the feel of a miniature train, but also the feel of a full size train. I hope to see more vids!

  • I'm surprised you didn't mount it on WF&P 928 under a full head of steam - lol - (or did you?)

  • that whistle sounds Great!!! its even better when your in the cab!!! this season will be fun especially with that whistle

  • Good sounding whistle...Can you get some more video of it?? With the enigne running would be sharp!!

    Cary

  • Hi Cary,

Will be getting more video of it next weekend. Didn't actually get out on the line today. Will try to get some distance shots of it too. Sounds good echoing across the park!
