@woodencoasterfan "the neighborhood looks pretty rough, so go in the daylight" you make it sound like we're vampires, im from around here, believe me the only people gettin knocked off are the ones that cause trouble for themselves. and to whom it may concern, the bright lights will not let you get lost, just remember the city is one big grid its always easy to get back from where you started from.
I am a native born Philadelphian who moved away from Philly more than 25 years ago; I have to express my disappointment in the commercialism of both steak-shops. The competition is no longer about steak sandwich menus; it is all about producing quantity of the product they sell, which could not be any more apparent than at Pat's. At one time I remember you could order a Cheese Steak Hoggie that is a Cheese Steak with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and heavy on the mayo.
@njneopatriot I wonder why they stopped customizing their hoagies. It really doesn't take that much time to add things unless they get a customer who doesn't know what they want till they reach the counter after waiting to order for 5 minutes. When I was there, you could only get one "wit or witout" onions or "wiz" and those were the only choices you could add to the sandwhich.
@woodencoasterfan I would guess Pat's has a smaller inventory, because they have a select number of steaks on their menu. Next time I will try Geno's, then my next visit I will try a sandwich at Tony Luke.
@woodencoasterfan My brother told me Geno's makes steaks & hoggies to order, I might be able to have a Cheese Steak Hoggie after all. I like American Cheese ... Cheese Wiz is an insult to the steak. LOL
Without being there, looking at the two steaks, I see Pat's is more superior. The meat is chunkier, the roll is bigger, the texture look is more quality. Both of these places are making a killing. Regardless who's best, they laugh all the way to the bank. The competition commercial only make them more famous.
@ninvin21 I was there twice, once for Pat's and once for Geno's. I think there's only one size for the steak sandwhiches and at both places I got one " wit onions and wiz"
@ninvin21 I also forgot to tell you that parking is at a premium there as you can only park on the side of the street there and they're very hard to find so don't be supprised if you get lost. The locals say it happens all the time. I got lost looking for the place both times I went there. Also, the neighborhood looks pretty rough so I'd go during the daylight hours if you can. Remember, those places are in "South Philly".
Neither - Jim's is the best. Both of those are REALLY overrated - if you want goodness, go to Jim's or Dellasandro's. Geno's is a bit racist, in fact.
Parking around there is difficult. Don't go there after a ballgame...everyone else does, and there is no place to park. I actually like to park in the historic area, walk the mile or so to Pat's or Geno's, eat my cheesesteak, then walk off the calories back to my car in the historic district. Go Phillies!
Both Pat's and Gino's are in south side of Philladelphia and they're located at the same intersection at 9th Street and Passyunk Ave. I gotta warn you, they're hard to find and even harder to find a parking spot. I'd recommend going during daylight hours as the neighborhood looks a little rough there but both restaraunts are worth the journey. I think Geno's is a little better that Pat's the subs at both places are great and miles ahead of any other philly cheesesteak I've ever had.

Where in Phili is this? I go to phili a lot since family is there, and I live an hour away from Phili. They live in North East Philadelphia.
Which do you like more?
