its Fe2O3, and i can't remember the ratio i'm pretty sure its an equal ratio by weight but not by volume cause aluminum weighs less. don't quote me on that though

yes it isn't flame by the classical definition,but a few percents of the thermite mass go into gaseous state along with the surrounding nitrogen and oxygen,this produces a very hot gass,which is hotter than 2400°C (although the metal stays at 2400°C

thermite. we use it all the time at work. if you know an electrician, ask him to get you a "Cadweld shot" ...that's thermite. it comes in a container that looks like a 35mm film tube. electricians use it to weld copper together. enjoy...

Thermite is rust and aluminium stuff you need to grind the rust and alunium and put them together 8 parts rust for every 3 parts aluminium then you buy magnesium stirps and light it like a fuse dont be an idiot and start fires with this ok.

8 parts iron-oxide and 3 parts aluminum, and you cant light it with a blow torch you need to light a magnesium strip first.

you can light it with a blow torch, or two matches, or magnesium, or anything that ignites around that temperature. magnesium is the usual mechanism, though it is a conductor, so it might start a reacton early.
