@Shakuru21 They can eat carrots. There's not enough sugar in carrots to cause harm. My 2 have been eating carrots for over a year and they are perfectly fine.

Its not a regular part of the diet, then Degu's can regulate their blood suager perfectly fine as long as its not regularly supplied. if anything - fatty foods such as nuts and so on, are even more dangerous, as they tend to build up around the liver and organs and eventually kills them young.

We just lie still & pray they dont kill again.
These little rats are cool, a friend of mine got one not too long ago, we sit and watch it for hours, they are very entertaining, and they actually have a personality, and you know when they are mad and happy, its really kewl. I was just wondering if anyone knew what its like to take care of one, ive owned Dogs and Hamsters, Dogs arent too had, just have to love them and feed and teach them. Hamsters are just lazy bastards. Would a Degu fall somewhere in between? i heard neglect is very bad 4 em

Hi, Im interested in buying a degu but wondered how ard they are to tame and train? I have hamsters and love them to bits but wood like a degu,R they better in pairs?
They are a lot happier in pairs if they are used to it. Training takes time and a lot of handling they aren't already used to people. I've owned quite a few degus and they were all different in personality so that side is just luck. Please read up on how to care for them though, Degus are easily diabetic so they need low sugar foods.

i like Degu poop, it so tiny, & not mushy at all. I sprinkle them on my daughters cereal. They're actually a good source of vitamin B12.
