  • @zz13x

    Ever heard of mushroom harvesting?

  • @zz13x there is fences and stables, guess that counts as a farmstead during that time and place... ?=)

  • the vangol. neanderthal or stone age man? they seem pretty tough . they can rip your head off. i want to know what they are..

  • @davyjones21122 i always figured they were some last-remnant neanderthal population. they don't look like homo sapiens, and their culture appears vastly different from the vikings.

  • @JesusConvictScorpion - I haven't read the Michael Crichton novel (Eaters of the Dead) that the film was based on, but from what I can gather the book does suggest that Wendol are descended from a tribe of surviving Neanderthals. Neanderthals were physically far stronger and more robust than homo sapiens, so this might also explain how they are able to carry off their own dead with little difficulty following a battle.

  • Holy shit this pt is the best just because for once the comments arent.

"muslims are dumb" "No Christians are dumb" "no muzzies are dumb" "No dhimmis are dumb" etc etc ad nauseum

  • 2:48 What are they?

  • I want the costume and weapons of the Wendol leader (the dude who's seen hiding in the bushes on 2:25 and 3:31). They're fucking bad-ass!!!!!!

  • Why am I seeing a thumbnail of Jessica alba next to this video?!?!?!

  • One of the warriors is the actor who will play the vampire Marcus... in Unterworld... Just noticed him now... <3

  • They should make a Warriors game for this. Truly epic

  • @tehkao, IMO, this is the perfect DnD campaign.

  • y did he told the arab to put his hand down?

  • @thegudgurl Lol. In my opinion, I think he didn't want the Arab to give away the fact that they were checking them out. Notice how they were casually just looking around.

  • @KindlyKickRocks i thought so too, just want to confirm my opinion lol. thank u :)

  • When Ahmad ibn Fadlan was looking at the carnage, I couldn't help but giggle.

    Wendol = Reaver

    I'm such a nerd. ^_^

  • so what is the movie really about

  • @DRIFTFACTOR3

Apparently it is a re-writing of Beowulf.

Chrichton who wrote the book did it to show that the Beowulf story wasn't boring.

The book is actually kind of cool. It's partially written as a historical thesis. :)

The "sources" ath the end of the book is fun reading in itself with some tongue-in-cheek references.

  • Comment removed

  • what does the viking say at 2:47 to 2:50 "it was not man...it was mando" whats a mando? what does he say after "it was not man"?

  • @mstrdk a bit later he says something like " the mother of the wendigo" i think

  • maybe dumbs do not watch this sort of movies:)

  • Nordish,Slavic,Arab,Mameluc whatever, still the Hungarians were the best fighters in the 10th century...Interestingly the Vikings were satisfied with the Baltic sea and Scandinavia, they established their great merchant society there and sailed to many places and didn't come up against the Hungarians, it would have been a historical heavy weight match...

  • @Vadpecsenye

not that strange the only viking king who getting close was

Erik Segersäll from Uppsala after defitting Styvbjörn hi's nice and

    Vladimir the great's allied

He marced down on the Danich, Saxien and gut in allien's with

    Wladimir the great

the deal seald by'e marring Mickin dougther lather Storråda

  • Our history whatever it's line back into hundreds or thousands years ago is very, very important to me, as I would assume it would be to a lot of people on this planet, but at the end of the day we are all from the same planet regardless of our anceistry..........I love this planet !!

  • Come on, you don't really believe the whole Noah and Adam fairy tale. I mean, it's 2009...

  • Long Live Paganism!!!!!

  • hell yeah dude !!!!!!

  • lol!

  • love the songs! and the movie... hehe its pretty funny in the beginning of the film when the lady with the bones talks becuse alot of you guys dont understand no offnce guys =)

  • yeah I only understanded valkyrie

    sorry for my spelling...

  • Uneducated doesn't mean unintelligent. Just because people couldn't read or write doesn't mean they didn't have any common sense.

  • impressive how a child of that age knew enough to head to the centre of the colony after being attacked. historians say that ppl of this and similar eras are vulgar, and unintelligent but i hav to disagree strongly since all our tech was inspired these ppl

  • I think basic human instinct would dictate that when you're in trouble you head to a safe area.

    Common sense.

  • these Vikings are our "ancestors" kinda.

  • "Russia" or "Russian" is taken from the nordic "Rus" which means "red". your russian kin before the first millenium would have met the vikings and the vikings noted their red hair. Russias proximity to the east and to the north shows combined arabic-nordic influence. This is shown in medieval russian armour - particularly boyar armour. The russians prefered to use axes like the Bardiarche - a nordic trait, but were also known to be very skilled horse archers, an nomad/arabic trait.

  • not sure about the Arabic part.

because the only people in Russia that got influenced by Arabs and Persians were people living in the mountains of Caucasus.

  • and yet i don't agree with you. because Russian Y-dna has too much Nordic and Finn Features. i made my own research thru genebase . com

try it. i got my results that i have a common dna with the people living in Denmark,

  • ohh yes and by the way.

in Finnish language even till today they call Sweds Rootsi(Type), Sounds like Ruusi. and every Finnish or Swedish will agree on that :)

  • "ohh yes and by the way.

in Finnish language even till today they call Sweds Rootsi(Type), Sounds like Ruusi. and every Finnish or Swedish will agree on that :)"

I didn't fully understand but Finns calls Sweden as Ruotsi (Ru-o-zi (<--trying to write how english speaking should spell it =D ))

  • *pronounce

  • @RussianBoxer84 There is a russian family living not far from me, when we celebrate midsummer.. all familys around here eat and drink together, and i was checking in there oldest daughter in there family ( cus she was hot ) and i didnt know they were foreign at all till the mother opend her mouth and started speaking Russian to her children.. so russians indeed melts in perfectly with swedes.

  • @VladimirovichViktor hehehe - cause they love drinking as much as you do ...:-D

  • Your are right for the most part, but horse archery was not hugely common among Arabs, it was more favoured by the steppe nomads and turks. One did find horse archers in Arab armies, but not as widely.

  • during the first crusade it was a real issue.

  • 3:18 predator snorting in the backround? lol..

comes to think of it, the woods part resembles greatly the part in the predator when they found severed corpses

  • horse

  • So this movie is based on the Thule Culture taking out the Viking Colony that lasted a little less than 200 years? who were these Thule people?

  • It's funny how some films try really hard to frighten you and just go down like a lead balloon (Blair Witch, anyone?).

And yet this film, which is a blend between the writings of ibn Fahdlan and the Beowulf story, actually succeeds in giving me the chills whenever I watch it. The music, shadows, fire and fog...effective combination.

  • it's almost like a blend of mystic, detective, thriller, history, action film genre's. it just make's it so unique and genuine, standing out from any other alike. Hats down to the director and the producer's!

    Awsome job!

  • lolol

hai ibn fadlan I see problum as well. not good the selfish eurob make evil piktur or Mohammad. Salami and Ham brotha keep da piss

  • those guys are using some very good small unit tactics when they make entry into the hut, almost like SWAT.

  • @fatman267 They're well trained and experienced warriors. Except Ahmad, of course, he's a poet!

  • That is nothing new.

  • @fatman267 just so you knwo practically all the tactics that wre use today have been around for hundreads of years just that we now have better technology.. but the basics are the same. even guerilla warfare was around LONG TIME ago

  • Fine, I'm sorry sheesh.

  • Cool film, strange having full armour though

  • Very strange indeed.

  • 3:03 ..what was that Skeld said? does anybody know??

  • creatsaaid!

    no clue.

  • Quit saying it.

  • HE said "Drittsek" Which means arsehole in Norwegian

  • viking means raiding/trading, they went to the americas, and they are rumoured to have gone south too. perhaps the armour is roman or such? or maybe its a fucking story :P

  • what is an conquistador?

  • spanish troops that conquored the colonies I believe

basically people who were much further forward in time.

however their armour was loosly based on gladiator armour from roman times and its know the vikings did know romans/greeks/arabs if only rarely.

meh some people don`t see it as a story but as a documentary and start whinging.

  • ty, so they just gave him that dress because it looked good

i also thought that the helmet of that big guy looks like one of a gladiator which will be the same case i think

  • In what way do your previous comments appear to be a jest or sarcasm? It really isn`t obvious old boy, but thankyou for saying I`m a dick, obviously this helps your comments to be understood.

  • This way: pointing out small inacuracies in an exagerated manner. And YES, I know it's just a story. It's also a really good movie.

  • They probably killed the original owners.

  • You guys apperently don't get sarcasm, or jokes for that matter.

  • freaky
