One of the things that I use it for that nobody mentions - I use it to boost the signal when recording into a computer. plug the guitar cable into a 1/4" to a 1/8"(pick it up at radioshack for 3 bucks), open sound recorder on windows, turn on the pedal. and you're good to go. its good if you have an idea or a rhythm you want to record quickly.
They don't mention - and I thought they would - if you use compression to help your flanger or chorus sound better, then the micro-amp works great to get your signal out and up above the traffic during a solo break where your compression stays on...
@TheSchoolsux345 I've never had a problem on loud volumes with the MicroAmp turned all the way, sounds wicked and preserves you signal all the way, the low-end really thumps.
@999manman Because turning up the volume is nothing like overdriving the front plate voltage of the preamp which effects dynamics and creates more distortion.
I use an EQ pedal to to this job - it can be used to add overall gain, and also to voice the boosted signal by boosting/cutting frequencies... My dirty channel loves it
should i get this or the electro harmonix signal pad attenuator? because the signal pad doesnt need a power suply i could leave it on all the time and switch it off for solos. im running through a bugera 1960 which has no master volume or gain knob
I love how easy it is to dial in great sounds on MXR pedals, not to mention that they are a great size for any pedalboard. The Micro Amp is no exception to both of those categories, too.
@michaelkim119 thanks a lot, but I meant settings for my amp...I think I should use the overdrive channel with no lows, a lot of treble and a little bit of mids....what about you?
Ok maybe another stupid question.... But what does this do with a solid state amp? I have a Marshall 100hdfx and am looking to get a little more punch from my strat... Anyone?
@PhantomCover it will do the same thing. but it will sound like crap on the clean channel... it will give you a bit more of the amps distortion... a word of advice though (and i'm not being a snob i swear) get a tube amp and you will like it alot more. :)
@Acidrain1993 Yeah thats basically all I have heard and read is to get a tubed amp. I bought my MG100hdfx before I really knew anything about what was good or not. :\ Although it does sound pretty decent, its just more loud than anything. I kind of wish I would have waited.
I used to put mine anywhere in the chain, but usually ahead or after my distortion box ahead it would drive the distortion more and give you a really heavy metal sound with long sustain but usually i just used it for a clean sound or to boost a lead. In the mxr line, if i remember correctly you could put your pedals anywhere you desire as long as you keep the dyna-comp (another cool MXR device) as your last box before the amplifier as the dyna comp is a compressor-sustainer.
@theShowStopper321 nah.. its shit as that. get an overdrive for that... shove it in the fx loop it gives you a clean volume boost. theres no rules to say it has to be used one way or the other of course
This pushes the preamp section,if your amp volume only goes to 10 this will give you 15-20,if you only keep your amp at 2-3 and max the micro, you will get a good clean sound but loud, if you max your amp and yhe micro you will get mid sixties Kinks style overdrive, but it will be very loud. This pedal is a must for a serious guitarist.
@rodrigozamo oh yeah i kinda forgot about his teles. i knew he had the gretsches though (gretsches are kinda my favorite). but billy still has his pearly gates les paul
Nice work mate, like your humour. I do have one of these pedals. Should it go between the amp and guitar or should it be in the effects loop. Any help appreciated, thanks

@AndreeTheGuitarist I'm guessing it would be perfect for that, considering that's pretty much what boost pedals are designed for lol
McFro95 2 weeks ago
does the Blue Box also work at sort of a boost?
MrManson94 6 months ago
@MrManson94 Not at all, the Blue Box adds fuzz to your signal, and duplicates it two octaves down. I would not recommend it as a boost.
CentaurusEditing 5 months ago
@MrManson94 Not att all m8, it's a combo between a fuzz and octave pedal.
Hope it helped

@999manman Because you don't have time to do that when you're in the middle of a song, especially if you're playing a gig.
