Clean tone was ok... Gain tone did pretty good. Those who say its muddy obviously havent taken into account its recorded and what not. Ive seen you in marshall amp forums;)
just because someone promotes something ,its supposed to be better?, thats the game of marketing, if something sounds better it sounds better, case closed, use your head for something other than a hat rack, "you know"
@musiclovr2 I'm far from tone deaf.. especially since I've been playing guitar 20 years, and won 3 guitar competitions and 2nd place in 2 others, all in the past 5 years. I can tell you and I'm sure a lot of people can that the MG series is a crappy line and low price line for idiots that can't tell the difference between a amp's tone!
just because you played for a long time doesnt mean shit, and im no idiot, waist all your money , you cant buy talent, or a "EAR" everyone knows it, next youll tell us death metal is music 2 huh, lol, crap is crap, and theres a hell of a lot of it i n music these days, mg are good sounding amps
@musiclovr2 You're a dumb ass. Death Metal is a type of music. Maybe you need to look up the definition of "music" Lol. Obviously you don't have the "EAR" if you think a MG Marshall is better then a JCM Marshall. Also, it does mean shit when someone has played for a long time...means they've been around longer, listened longer, knows more etc.. etc... list goes on. I'm not saying I'm better or more talented then you or anyone... but seriously, you need to get over thinking your MG is "God".
@musiclovr2 OH NO SERIOUS BUSINESS. CAPS AND ALL LOL! AND LOL @ SAYING YOU WERE BEING NICE. WHERE IN ANY OF YOUR STATEMENTS WAS YOU BEING NICE? LOL. AND I'M NOT A "KNOW IT ALL" BUT I DO KNOW DECENT TONE WHEN I HEAR IT, AND GUESS WHAT IT'S NOT THE MG LINE BY MARSHALL :) GOODBYE.
@MrDeamon1 Which Peavey? And is it this Marshall? I own two 5150s if that's what you're going after. I run one through a 5150 cab and the other through just a generic 4x12. Like I said, if that's what you're going after, I could give you my opinion.
@bodomguitar91 thanks! mine came in friday and it is quite awesome!!! really clean, all the knobs and channels work etc... I have a recycled sound attenuator and i'm surprised how good this thing sounds at bedroom levels! even without the attenuator it blows away many amps at low volume. it really seems to be a nice match for my 2 x 12 cab... just my humble opinion.
nice playing! IMHO, the amp is the typical Marshall sound, sounds like it has lack of definition/tighthness, i'd even say one could probably get close to it using a Metalzone pedal, but it could also be the pickups aren't that good...
@thrashattack312 trust me, the Dual Rectifier sounds much fuller and has a destructive low end. the cabinet (4x12 with v30 standard rectifier) is the best cabinet I've ever played. when I bought my 6505, I tried to play this head with a Marshall 1960 4x12 with v30 and played decently. when I tried to play my 6505, connected with a rectifier 4x12 standard, the sound was much more defined and play the palm muted with a powerful and full sound is so beautiful.
I had the same amp and sounded cool, though it blew up twice. After only five years the front transformer blew and took out the rear and all the valves $750 to repair. 18 months later it shit again, I fixed it and sold it. The repair bloke said he sees heaps of them. POS
i thin this cld sound lot more fuller and ballsy if u move ur mic inches back away from the cab...also...sounds to me that u were playin wif quite a low volume?
@xuan8839 well the mic was about 1.5 inches from the cab on the left side of the cone, but yes it was at a lower volume, i have neighbours and it was at about 3-4 ish on volume, which is about the level that most ppl could get away with at home, but youtubes audio compression does make it sound a little weaker than normal :S
@bodomguitar91 agreed, man it sounds like some 8" or 112 cab to me in fact....however this does remind me some tone from unearthed..still, nice gear man.
@raizhell2795 yes, it should be able to handle it, u will probably want to front end the amp with an OD or distortion or something, but if u want the good low end sound etc u will need to have a good cab with it :) , in the vid im using the marshall 1960 Vintage A
@raizhell2795 i play almost same bands and when i heard the ultra gain 2 i will think it has enough gain but for solo's i think you need a od pedal, like a ibanez ts9 or something to shred (:
@raizhell2795 if you play that kind of stuff youd probably want to go with a peavey 6505 cuz thats what bfmv uses and a lot of other heavier bands. And for a cab I think a mesa with celestion v30s sounds best to my ears but its up to you. Im not a fan of peavey cabs they kinda mudd up the sound to me but you just gotta mess around and do some research.
Loved the solo at the end. This amp has moved to my #1 priority list over the TSL and L6 Spider Valve. Any chance you can divulge what techhnique you used on the arpeggios at the end? :D
@dinoman89 ahah thanks man, yeah this amp is definetly kool. the end arpeggios were just 5 string sweep picking, nothing too complex, only using standard major and minor shapes to do in the style of canon :D
@bodomguitar91 Like the "C shape" arpeggios just played quickly and REALLY cleanly? I play the same arpeggios if that's the case. 5th string roots on frets 15, 12, 14, 9, 10, 5, 10, and 12?
@fallingawaketv for this demo no pedals were used besides for a ibanez ts9dx at the end for solo stuff, this amp doesnt come with any pedals but it does come with a footswitch :D
@JoshGoldie i have played both, really there is not much difference, if anything the 50 watt will be better at lower volumes cause u can push the tubes more, but they r pretty much identicle
@JoshGoldie After researching the heck out of the DSL 100 because I'm going to pick up a used one. On the Marshall forums and in other reviews they say that the DSL 50 is a little brighter than the DSL 100 and the difference in volume between 50 watts and 100 watts is I think only 3db. Get an attentuator so you can push the tubes at high volume on your amp and then lower the volume on the attentuator so you maintain the driven tube tone at lower volumes.
@KissMeImPunk yeah, sorry about that, i really should have done that but i can't stand playing with mids scooped, but perhaps ill make a vid just to make the review complete :D
@bodomguitar91 Why do people hate scooped so much? I know it's not exactly known for its..clarity, but it sounds thrashy as fuck. I want scooped mids (preferably on an amp that ISN'T A LINE 6!)
@KissMeImPunk well for me i don't like scooped mids for practicality's sake, because playing live and in the studio without mids... u'll never get heard in mix. the guitar is a mid-ranged instrument and needs mids atleast mids on 5 imho :D
@masteroggame3 No, unfortunatly the footswitch that came with this amp only changes channel from clean to Gain, which is pretty crappy :( so to change between classic and ultra/ clean and crunch you need to physically press the button
