Season 9 was not real, nothing after the first episode was real (or some episode in the early seasons). It was all roseanne's writing. This one was just extra fantasy cause of dan's death
I don't understand why everyone bashes so hard on this season. It's hilarious to see how they would act with money, and the last episode makes it all make sense. Everyone says this season was out of character but that's the point - *SPOILER* Roseanne's husband (Dan) died in the previous season and to cope with the pain of losing the love of her life she became reclusive and wrote a fictional story where they won the lottery (which is the premise of this season) & altered a few relationships.
@Imfourty so basically season 9 was nt real it was kinda a 'what if' thing??
that would explain why I was so confused and still am kinda.
why did she have dan die?
the ending where shes writing in the room made me so incredibly sad then she walks to the living room sits on the couch and all I could think is how could she kill dan off when hes part of her ( on the show their relationship) hes part of what made her her ya know .
@RENTluver06 No no, the last season (when Darlene got married), Dan had a heart attack and died. The following season (9) was Roseanne's way of coping with Dan's loss; by writing an extravagant version of her life, where she wins the lottery and everything is okay with her, Dan, and her family. When Dan is in the hospital, that is part of her book. When he cheats on her, that is her way of trying to make his death justified. But season 9 was all just a story written by Roseanne to deal with Dan.
@Imfourty the whole series was roseanne making it up. Dan died but Beky married david Darlene married mark her sis was a lesbian...
but yea, dan cheating was not to justify his death, it was her saying that it was how she felt when he died. Like he left her for another woman. After he died she wrote this fantasy (which is why this season seems so out of link with the rest of her writing) because she needed some happiness. But yea.. none of it was "real" so to speak. Its kinda meta
@Imfourty But the thing that doesn't make sense is in her way of 'fixing' things, Jackie NEVER finds a good man to settle down with and just dates and marries jerks, and swapping the girls and their husbands was so wrong too, you have to reexamine everything they did, who stole Dan's bike? Who eloped? Who went to art school? That part they should've left as it was.
@TheBookWorm1718, ...Yeah, I'm sure that's a good point, there: And, hopefully, one CAN stick with the earlier seasons ; but they had to, due to some Network insistance; that was bullshit.
@ least this show portrayed gays as they really are: totally based, focused and centered on sex. Roseanne was funny, but her dark, bitter anger always broke through her work, as well as in her real life. Guess everyone has their inspiration. Guess that was hers.
@ilovekelly75 Um, have 3 of your gay friends died of AIDS?
3 of mine have. & those I still know feel the same as I do. Just look @ gay pride parades, like Key West & other places where they used to have live sex acts on the floats during the parades.
@Zapppo That's just because of the method of their sex, not how much they do it, or how focused they are on it. If straight people's most common method was the same, they'd be dying of aids more too. It is a fact that anal intercourse is more likely to cause diseases than vaginal intercourse. Look it up.
I was agreeing with you. Sorry to have confused you by being too brief, i was trying to keep it clean: Getting diseases from Gay male sex is basic common sense for the reasons you stated.
I wonder how they get the crowd to laugh at certain times. Like in the opening scene when Roseanne is talking to Dan on the phone and says "It's just not the same without you" and they zoom out to the new living room set. The audience can already see before they zoom out that it's a new living room set so how do they know that they zoomed out and thats the joke?
I'm guessing these episodes with Dan missing is Roseanne beginning to be able to get over Dan's death in a less critical way...but w/e. Season 2 is Roseanne spin-off of Dan being alive and never died from a heart attack.
The best thing about this show was that it was easy to relate to the family for us blue collards. It was the reason the show was so popular. Winning the lottery IMO was the worst idea the writers could have made. It spanned that god awful episode Roseambo after all.

so you're saying blue collar people NEVER fantasies about winning the lottery and no longer having to struggle with money? so not true. i do all the time. that's why season 9 is a great season. 1-8 show how hard it is for a typical middle class family or lower, and what they have to deal with, and 9 shows their fantasies. then the finale shows it really is only a fantasy, not real life.
The series was on a good pace with giving the Connors a new start in life. The new prison dry wall deal and diners continued success were going to give them a better future. It was something all blue collards could relate to but winning the lotto is not exactly relevant to many. Its a one in a million chance and envisioning it is different from it becoming a reality.

Yes it went off the deep end, I love this show and will watch the season only bc I have to in order to start over. But its NOT funny and makes NO scense
I know why dan wasnt, but I wanna know the real reason as to why John wasnt there. But someone already answered that somewhere else.He was filming a movie.
How come they never show this episode on TV Land or Nick at Night anymore? Haven't seen it in years... they just skip over it to the episode where Bev visits Nana Mary.
Yeah they shoulda given the house to one of the kids... remodeled of course... maybe some additions. But, they probably didn't leave because living somewhere for so long can make you attached... I actually cried when I left a less than 500 ft. one bedroom apartment after 3 years...

the 9th season was the worst one its sooo surreal
keridog1 2 years ago
I actually agree with you. It wasn't as funny, but it was meant to be surreal, since it was all based on Roseanne's fantasies after Dan's death.

why wasnt John in so many episodes?
Johnny15depp 2 years ago 2
roseanne answers that at 18: seconds. dan is taking care of his mother in california
yooitsbrian 2 years ago 2
I know why dan wasnt, but I wanna know the real reason as to why John wasnt there. But someone already answered that somewhere else.He was filming a movie.
Johnny15depp 2 years ago 2
I think if you look at his filmography you will see that he filmed a movie at this time and it took alot of time from the Roseanne set.

How come they never show this episode on TV Land or Nick at Night anymore? Haven't seen it in years... they just skip over it to the episode where Bev visits Nana Mary.

with all the money they won, why on earth wouldn't they choose to get out of that house? that doesnt make any sense
dreamingcosmos 2 years ago
Yeah they shoulda given the house to one of the kids... remodeled of course... maybe some additions. But, they probably didn't leave because living somewhere for so long can make you attached... I actually cried when I left a less than 500 ft. one bedroom apartment after 3 years...
lilmizzc00kie 2 years ago 3
they wanted to keep the house and live and extravigant somewhat normal life

Why did the Roseanne show go all "fantasy" pretend world after season 7 or 8? I believe it was the downfall to the show. It got really stupid.
dreamingcosmos 2 years ago
only season 9 was like that.. 7 was great, 8 was ok but 9 sucked
