This clip tells it all. We do not want government in control of marriage for ANYONE. We need to start treating each other as humans. Government free marriage is the pathway to equality. Government should have no control over religion or marriage. Leave marriage to the religions or to the people to freely contract with one another. Time to grow up and take control of our own lives instead of relying on the government for everything.
@sarah9miller In actuality, we need to take marriage (among other things) back from religion. They have stolen enough and we will not tolerate it anymore.
Then why do some churches marry gay couples but some governments won't?
In reply to: "This furthers the misconception that marriage is a governmental institution. It is not. It is an institution created by God and realized through the church. It's not a matter of "permission"--it's a matter of definition."
This furthers the misconception that marriage is a governmental institution. It is not. It is an institution created by God and realized through the church. It's not a matter of "permission"--it's a matter of definition. God created Adam and Eve, man and woman, to be joined together for life. That was marriage. Man and man, woman and woman, man and dog, woman and father, etc, are all perversions of the sexual aspect to that relationship. Behaving in that manner does not change what marriage is.
OK, first of all, in the situation of Adam and Eve, sex itself was a perversion. They were never supposed to eat the apple, and without having committed that sin, they would have had no knowledge of or desire for sex. Secondly, the moment the USA started handing out certificates and licenses for marriage, it became a governmental institution. Finally, Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Matthew 7:1.
It's a good thing we don't live in a theocracy, because then it would matter if someone pretended that God made marriage.
Phew. I'm glad I live in a secular society where someone's religion isn't the basis for the laws.
Imagine that?! Imagine if I lived in a theocracy and I had to go to a court of elders in the church to determine if I had committed a crime. That would be just like living in Iran! I don't want to live in a place that has a religion running it. Phew.
"This furthers the misconception that marriage is a governmental institution. It is not. It is an institution created by God and realized through the church."
Then you should work to get the government to stop recognizing marriage as a legal contract.
Homosexuality is wrong because it does not directly lead to procreation. What ever happened to traditional values when the only thing people cared about was whether or not couples could reproduce together? What has this world come to when we care more about a person as an individual than about his/her genitalia and its reproductive use to us? Even fascist, communist, and Islamic states have always put utilitarian, human prorogation before individual choice and freedom.
How would you feel if you had to ask 260 million people for the right to marry? It sure would prevent divorce.
Seriously, Corporations consider themselves persons under the 14th amendment and have the right to merge and take each other over. We never ask if Corporations are male or female. Why don't gay persons have the same rights a corporation has?

Because marriage is sanctioned and defined by our laws. It is not an inalienable right, it is a tradition from most civilizations, supported by our laws. You need a license to marry just as you do to drive. The majority set the laws. You can consider you and your dog married if you choose, but it's not marriage. Cheesy, inefective propaganda video.
"The majority set the laws." Since when has the majority been responsible for setting the laws regarding the rights of minorities? I recall the courts desegregating public schools, restrooms, etc. "You can consider you and your dog married." Right, because a dog is considered a citizen of this country and can sign a marriage license.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Once again, marriage is not a "right", any more than driving. We are not talking about civil rights of minorities, though the gay lobby sooo wants that association.
We ARE talking about the civil rights of minorities. When a group of people are discriminated against entering a legal contract guarenteed by the government, (yes the legal rights of marriage are guarenteed by the government to anyone who wishes to enter into that legal contract)it becomes a civil rights issue.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
How can we be talking about civil rights when it's not a right? And their not minorities. ANYONE who WISHES to can't marry, otherwise why couldn't two brothers, or sisters? Mother, daughter? Father, son? Why only two people? Why not everyone to everyone(for the tax advantages)? It's not guaranteed to anyone who wishes, for a good reason.
So if the government was to regulate who you could marry based on your sexual orientation, you wouldnt have a problem with it. If the government denied you a marriage license because you were heterosexual, that would be ok with you?
The gov't does not regulate marriage by sexual orientation. There are no questions about your any orientation for state marriage licenses. Yes I would have a problem if the gov't. asked me what my sexual orientation was. That's a so and an if that doesn't exist.
That's a little extreme. There is no biological inclination (whether you want to call it disorder or variation, I care not, but it is biological) that makes you only attracted to members of your family. There is one that makes you only attracted to members of the same sex however. Your parallel is bunk.
That's up for debate. What attracts and individual changes person to person and is a combination of *both* nature and nurture.
Incest, however, greatly increases the odds of genetic disorders if one has children with someone closely related. That is legitimate enough reason to discourage it, in my opinion.

Great ad... We does anyone have to ask someones permission to get married to anyone?
DominickJ 2 years ago 2
The only people a person should ask permission is the girl's parent's, and thats a sign of respect, not an actual need of their permission

So you're saying atheists can't marry because they don't believe in God?
Why is it that every other non-Christian religion and every other non-American culture has the concept of marriage?
Because marriage is not a religious concept but a social construct that naturally develops when a community of people is created.

Thats sad, that makes you less of a human being, christian, and citizen

the fact that you can't respect other peoples' opinions makes you less of a human being, christian, and citizen. and i wasn't christian anyway.

i most certainly respect opinions, and it is also my right to think of you what i will, i will not respect stupidity

Why are you against it? Humans invented marriage and can make it so that two conscenting adults can marry if they want. Why be against love?

How is that a ridiculous analogy? It makes sense to me. Heterosexuals dont need the majority's decision to marry so why should homosexuals?
