Friend who just passed had a great love for this song. So fitting for the beauty of his agnosticism. Love you, brother. Glad to have wasted so much time with you. See you soon; or not.
I was fortunate enough to see the seventh Lifeboy ever played at the Tennessee Theater Knoxville, TN 7.29.93. What an amazing show in a grand old theater. This song is so incredibly beautiful it makes me cry tears of joy ever time I hear it. Really heavy stuff. Put it back in the rotation boys. You have put everything else back it seems.
Being ten rows back in front of Trey in 1995 was like being dipped in the very essence of God. "Set the gearshift for the high gear of your soul; you've got to run like an antelope, out of control."
such a beautiful song, and basically the story of my life...except you can replace "god" with "every person in this whole cold and uncaring world" never listens to me...they are all too busy talking loudly and drowning my thin voice out with their shouting. fuck it all anyway, why bother trying with them?????
@ladyvanessa14 My annotation of this song (maybe my fav phish 'balad' has changed over the years. At first I took the lyrics straight up, and saw it really as a very anti-religion in any form song. As i got older and wiser (yea, right) i began to see it as more of a critisizm of people in general rather than 'God," or religion.
My 7 year old son loves this song. He goes to a Lutheran school and was singing the refrain, "God never listens to what I say." The teacher was perplexed. You gotta love it.
@thinks2 ha, true.. as if the bible itself isnt loaded with stories about people who experience doubt in faith because God himself purposly gives us a reason to doubt or test them, etc. thats the whole point..some are just close minded.
did treys shirt come pre shrunk or was he on steriods for this show? discuss amongst yourselves...
