  • I remember the food was so cheap, I wouldn't eat lunch and would walk to the one on Long Beach Blvd and Burnett (I think) and would get like 3 items for a dollar! It was a sad day when they went out of business! Almost as said as when Pioneer Chicken left us!

  • Their fries were fabulous!

  • I wish they would bring Pup 'N Taco back. They were the greatest.

  • We had one in the LAX Area as well in the late 60 early 70's ..Lennox California..We lived on the next street..I loved the Fries and Chile Dogs the best

Hawthorne Blvd and lennox Blvd..Was there for years

  • I loved their tacos!...simply dial "D" for dialicious!!!!!

  • Missed the 70's. Definitely different times.

  • this vid made me happy for some reason...

  • Woodman & Nordhoff in Pacoima. Across the street from Sav-on's and the fire station.

  • Did Dad say " trust me, I fed you a turtle didn't I " ?? ; - )

PnT was the absolute best ever !!!

  • where did the name pup n taco come from?

  • @BULLFROGGZ77 "Pup" was for the hot dogs and the rest pretty much explains itself...

  • Man...those tacos are HUGE in that commercial. I miss that place.

  • they had the best taco burgers ever!!!

  • I'm from the HOOD...so my location was Normandie and Century!!!

  • How come all fast food employees in the 70s and 80s had to wear nasty polyester that ended up smelling like grease and ass at the end of the day?

  • I worked there 1975-1977. I was just a young teenager. It was a fusion of todays Taco Bell with Der Weinerchniczel/. Del Taco was similar.

  • I remember "Pup N Taco", but I don't think I ever ate there. I remember my mom saying that it was crap. She was on a health food kick in the early 80s.

  • I used to see pup in toaco going to see my grand ma and aunt in anahiem

  • i so remember the on in upper pasadena!!! i think my dad like the chili dogs and i ate the fries

  • Took a girls virginity in the bathroom of my local Pup n Taco. Good times, she had the ride of her life. Stay classy, people.

  • Paramount / Stewart&Gray in Downey, Lakewood / Alondra in Paramount, Florence / Seville in HP. I always had two tacos, two chili cheese pups with onions, and fries. I wish this chain would come back....

  • i Love pup N taco so much those were the days... nom nom '

  • I really liked the one in Mission Viejo & since there was a Del & Naugles on the way I had 2 be good or owed 1 to get.... dug the burrito & chili dog combo. It became & still is a Taco Bell. I know its a simple concept but if your too young to of gone to, let me tell you it rocked! Wish someone would bring em back.

  • Did anyone recognize the kid in this commercial? It is the kid in the 2nd episode in the "Twilight Zone:The Movie" this was the kid who kept the people in the house trapped. Helen ran into him while he was on his bike and she drove him to his house.

  • There was a good Pup n Taco on 17th street in Santa Ana back in the 1970's and early 1980's. Great slushies.

  • Harbor and Edinger in Santa Ana for me... miss the slushies

  • Pup n Taco in South Gate, California (State and Long Beach Blvd.) Old School. Ha!

  • I remember the fries and chili dogs was the best, there was one on the corner of Pico and Bundy. Gosh I remember when it changed over to Taco Bell, boy my feelings was hurt LOL

  • .......tacos, burgers, AND hot dogs???..... wow

  • @coreyakabob1 Yep, they had it all! And it didn't cost a lot.

  • I wonder if anyone has the older commercials where the Song/Jingle was based on the melody of the song "Pretty Baby" (hum a few bars, I bet it'll jog your memory). But for the life of me I dont remember what they showed on the Vid. All I remember in 1977 is that their Chili on their Hot Dogs were awesome, I can still taste it!

"Der Weinerschnitzle" tasted more like Pup n' Taco Chili then too :D (And when Taco Bell's Beef was more flavourful than it is now, now its just "gimmick" food :P).

  • @mvunit3 I remember that commercial. It was a guy and girl on stage with straw hats and canes doing a soft-shoe kinda vaudeville act.

  • Oh yeah, I LOVED the cherry and grape slushies at Pup n Taco. There was one over by the Los Coyotes Diagonal in Long Beach we went too. Good times.

  • I loved Pup N Taco.....hey sularia1we wnt to the same on on Glenoaks Blvd too!...and also the one in Pacoima back in the day.....ah them old San Fern Valley days.....how I wish I could go back!

  • Good grief! I forgot about this place! I laughed when I saw this commercial!

  • Oh, Pup N Taco. My old location at Gardena Blvd & Western Avenue in Gardena, CA. It later became a Taco Bell when Taco Bell bought out Pup N Taco :(

  • Wow, I never heard of that place. It looked like it was good and original. I miss the 80's and places like that.

  • It was a great little chain here in So Cal. Unfortunately, big bad giant Taco Bell bought them out in 1985 and converted all their stores to Taco Bells :(

  • @Lalo3001...yeah. right before i was born. so i never got 2 try it out T_T

all i have are stories my mom told me about it =\

  • I remember pup n taco in the early 80s in Baldwin park on Ramona blvd. Great chili dogs lol.

  • me too.. there was another one on ramona & peck rd in el monte =)

  • Yeah i remember that there also used to be a Tommys there too. Those were good times lol.

  • There was three around the place I grew up, Hawthorne. The ine in hawthorne was on El Segundo...the one in Lawndale was on Hawthorne and the one in Lennox was also on Hawthorne....and yes, their pastromi sandwiches were great!

  • There was three close to my house, in Hawthorne, on El Segundo, Lawndale, on Hawthorne Blvd. and one in lennox on Hawthorne Blvd...funny how the ones in hawthorne and lawndale became Taco bell....and the pastromi sandwiches were out of this world!

  • How about the pup n taco in lawndale

  • Gardena on Western near the library. The slushies and fries are the best. None like it today. The pastrami was one of my faves.

  • Torrance location... PCH & Calle Mayor

  • Remember it well. There was a Pup 'n Taco at the corner of PCH and Pier/Aviation in Hermosa Beach (site's now occupied by a Pinkberry).

  • We had one here in Artesia on South St and Norwalk Blvd. Gosh, I loved there Chili Dogs!

  • My older brother used to walk my little sister and I to the Pup 'n' Taco on Marguerite and Jeronimo in Mission Viejo back in the '70s. It was a sad day when they were bought out. Such an odd place but sooo good!

Thankfully Big 'O' to Go still stands in that hole in the wall center, but I sure miss me some P 'n' T.

  • holy crap, you mean Big 'O' to Go is still there???

  • Yes, my all time favorite fast food when I was a kid in the 70s. Great burgers, chili dogs & mexican food & let's not forget the very cool slushies. My favorite was the grape flavor.

  • I remeber pup n taco i was pretty young. But i had heard that taco bell bought them out, and that was the end of Pup?

  • Wow, that food looks so good!

  • I remember the Pup N Taco on La Brea near Olympic.

  • Will never forget going to eat at Pup n Taco on rainy days....their fries and tacos brightened my day! Good times Good times!

  • Glendale.

  • When I was a kid, my dad use to take me here almost every Saturday for lunch... Good times.

  • I will never forgive Taco Bell for buying Pup 'N Taco and then burying it. Pup 'N Taco Taco Burgers is still my all time favorite burger. If anyone has the recipe for making their taco meat please post it. Thanks!

  • carrie9501: according to wikipedia there are still two Pup 'N Taco. Those two are now know as "Pop 'n Taco", mabey they could help with the recipe.

  • I used to collect the coupons and on weekends my dad would take us to the one in Culver City ( Taco Bell on Braddock) and I would get my free chili pup.

  • Ooh, i've remember the ''Naugles'' just farther away where i used to live on Mariposa Avenue in Woodcrest, Underdrifter!, now it becomes ''Del Taco'', have further memories eating at the Woodcrest ''Naugles'' and ''Del Taco'', love livin' in Woodcrest back then!!

  • I used to frequent the Pup 'n' Taco on Foothill Blvd. in Rialto, CA. In a single block or two Pup 'n' Taco, Mc D's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, Hamburger Stand, and a couple greasy independents! Those were just the one's I could think of.

A freind of mine said he was working at a Pup 'n' Taco at night, and one of the moths that buzzed around the lights outside the drive-thru flew into the deep frier. He said he served in a bag of fries! :(

  • OMG!!! lol I can't believe it! Pup N Taco! they were the shit back in the day! The Best! Better then Del Taco and Taco Bell!

  • We loved Pup N Taco..we always had coupons for 10 Pups or Tacos,mix/match, for $1.00..the bad part was that they put American cheese on the tacos. I went mostly to the one on Van Buren, near Arlington Av. in Riverside.

  • LOLZ!!!

    I'm from riverside

You remember the Naugels in woodcrest???

  • dude, im from woodcrest aswell, i live next to king! we had a naugels over here?????

  • Deluxe burger 2 tacos, chili cheese fries and a cherry slush....sigh...bring back Pup 'n' Taco!!!!

  • 99 cents for 3 chili cheese dogs up until 1984...lol

  • Ahh yes Pup and Taco ! We used to go there for lunch on Game day (Football). That was back in 76-77 , I still pass the one that used to be there in Garden Grove.

  • pup n taco was the shit . my mom used to take me and my brother chili dogs for lunch to school at madison.pasadena ca.pup n taco yum-yum.

  • Have you got the Tap Dancing spot for Pup & Taco?

Had to be the worst advertisement ever.

  • There was a Pup 'n' Taco in Covina. Citrus and Hollenbeck. I loved the slushes, and the refried beans were pretty good, too.

  • I remember that location too.

    Bud's was nearby. Classic, man!

  • OMG I LOVED PUP N TACO!!!!!!

My sister worked at the one in Burbank on Glenoaks Blvd!!! I remember the french Fries where these little pellets that when hit the grease made Fries lol it was the best!

  • I went the one on Glenoaks all the time when I was a kid! I loved those fries!!!

  • Im from the south.. so Ive never heard of these before. I actually thought this was a parody of some sort when I first saw the name. It does seem like a strange name for a food establishment.

  • Sounds strange but that's because they served hot dogs (a.k.a. pups) and tacos. It was great to eat here when I was a kid because they had slushes (grape and cherry!) and crinkle cut fries.

  • I grew up in east l.a. so my family went to the one on whittier blvd. Funny thing is its a taco bell. It's been there I'd say 18 years or so funny thing is my mom still calls it pup n taco

  • My mom was so proud of me when I ate a pastrami, hot dog and taco and finished in all by myself.

  • You can still see a few of those old Pup-n Taco locations being used as other restaurants. There's one on Reseda Blvd in Granada Hills--you can tell by the shape of the sign. It's a Mexican take out place now, I think.

  • There's some old Pioneer Chicken locations still being used as other restaurants, too! In Buena Park there's one and you can see the shape of the covered wagon but now it says "Chinese Food". Makes me feel slightly old!

  • Who remembers the movie Fletch when Chevy Chase is being spoken spanish to and he responds with "pup n taco"

  • Hehe I loved Pup 'n' Taco when I was a kid. I liked it better than Taco Bell even though I love Taco Bell.

  • I grew up in Long Beach/Lakewood, CA. and I remember this place.

  • hahaha

    "Can we come back tomorrow?"

NO ...they went out of business "tomorrow"

  • hahaha "can we come back tomorrow?"

NO..they went out of business "tomorrow"

  • those tacos were big.wtf

  • My dad got food poisoning at the Garden Grove location!

  • One of my earliest memories as a kid (I think I was four at the time) was getting food poisoning at the Pup 'n Taco in Eagle Rock. I think it wasn't long after that they got bought out by Taco Bell.

  • Holy crap that place had everything! Hot dogs? WTF?

  • We had one on Trabuco Road in Mission Viejo. I remember it for cheap tacos and slushes. Some of my college buddies in Michigan thought I was full o' shit when talking about Pup N Taco, but I told em to watch a scene in Fletch where Chevy Chase greets someone with "Buenos Dias, Pup N Taco!"

  • OH

    MY

    GOSH

I totally forgot about Pup n Taco till I saw this! We used to eat there all the time. Thank you for posting this!

  • Three feet nine and he's all mine...and Bertha loves him all the time! Oh Ronnie Evans we love you....he was the manager at the Culver City Pup and Taco...we used to make up songs and drive up to the drive thru on our ten speeds, of course they wouldn't serve us....oh adolescents in southern california....it was fun!!! My parent's would give each of us kids 50 cents to have dinner at Pup n Taco, we'd give the change to Bro Tim so he could afford a pastrami sandwich!

  • Son: Can we go back tomorrow?

Dad: So you could wind up becoming a fat diabetic? Hell no!

  • Never been there when it was open but I bet Taco Bell is alot better.

  • awesome, but now i feel old!!

    :o) he he..

The pup n taco in el monte is now tacos baja and the one in baldwin park first was a taco bell and now is a albetos mexican food.

  • lol e-ho-lay lol

I would hear about them but yeah I know where the albetos and the first taco bell is so I know what you're talking about. lol I can't believe this made it to youtube!

  • the one in Santa Ana ca is a greasy burger joint that changes names every year. I miss this place

  • My dad called it "Puke 'N Taco"

  • HAHAHAHA Your dad is awesome

  • Fond memories of a Southern California that only still lives in the distant memories of people my age and older.

  • Pup N Taco!

  • Pup n' Taco sounds right. I bet they used puppy meat for the Tacos!

  • They still have a Bun Taco at the Del Taco in Barstow that's off the 15 on the way to Vegas (next to the outlet mall). They also have the tostadas that the rest of the Del Tacos quit making.

Bun Tacos kick ass- they're almost exactly like the ones Pup 'N Taco used to make.

  • Does that Del Taco make the old Shredded Chicken burrito that all the Del Tacos used to make in the mid 1980s? One fajitas became the rage, they got rid of the shredded meat Chicken Burrito, I think at the same time that they dumped the Bun Taco. Think I'll visit Barstow sometime soon.

  • Why is she 'cute and little'? I think the little boy is cute and little.'The cute little latin boy and his daddy being served by some white girl.' It's all in the packaging. You do sound kind of hick. What's more, who says the customers are Mexican? As if that's not enough, Pup 'n' Taco was never a Mexican fast food restaurant. Stop obesessing over race. Kinda making a fool of yourself.

  • Pup n' Taco is new to me, even though its been gone for 20 years.

  • Must have been many ions ago. Thanks for your comments and BTW, your videos are great, too!

  • I will always miss the tan & orange colors associated with most of these types of restaurants. Neat ad, I must say.
