That thing is so massive compared to current blu-ray players. I bought a Sony BDP-S360 for almost 1/10th of the price, much more smaller and probably works better than that very first Sony BDP-S1 blu-ray player.

@JMMoosey you are correct, the BDPS360 is better in terms of loading times and size but the build quality of the BDPS1 was amazing. It was actually built originally to sony ES (Elevated Standard) Series specs and has aweome internals. every year manufacturers cut corners to save money and it sucks. anything after the BDPS300/500 series took a huge cut in order to save cost. I've had one of these for quite a while (and I got it cheap, $150 at Sears about a year ago). A beautiful looking and well built machine, just like the early generation HD DVD players. Never had a problem, keep the firmware up to date (they still release updates for it) and it plays just about anything.

Check the box on your model. The BDP-S1 has Japan parts and was built IN Japan. Your model has China parts w/ some Japan parts. AND was built in Singapore. Sorry bubba, but the BDP-S1 has Rolls Royce parts to your Audi parts.

Can anyone help me? I have a Blu ray player. And it takes about 60/90 seconds to boot up. Then when inseting a BD-Rom A loading screen with 8 bars comes up for about a minute. Then another loading screen from the disc itself. Anyone know why this happens?

a lot of people have been having problems loading their BLu Ray Players. its a common problem. You should research more online about issues and how to fix them.

I have this player and it never takes longer than 5 seconds to start up. It's a fantastic player too, superior to my PS3 player.

I own a ps3, and realy it's not the best blu-ray player on the shelf's BUT you get the biggest bang for your buck and with the new blu-ray live frimewire update out it the best for the money

get the bd-p1400 my recomendation but recent news showed that ur gonna have to keep on updating the amount of space u have on a blu-ray player so were selling our samsung to get a ps3 (it has 40gbs of space on it so u dont hav to worry)

it can. you just have to plug the cords and then it will work. press the on button and then theres like some button thatll lift the blue tray up which has all the shit with the disc tray i unno if it has a disc tray but yea

sony owns all the rights to the bluray coding so all other studios will have to pay sony rights to use it!

it does not make sense to give your competitor the edge

sony has a large enough share of the electronics and movies why give them even more?

I have this player and I LOVE IT! Make sure to register it online or by phone asap. That way Sony can mail you the upgrade disks. I believe you should be at Version 3.5.

that's the unboxing of a waste of money, buy a ps3 if you want blu-ray. Ps3 is the same price as the cheepest stand alone player and you get extras (games) with the ps3. PS3 > stand alone players.

I had one just like that and what a piece of junk it was! Returned it to C. City after 2 weeks and got an HD DVD player. Still, I`m anxiously awaiting the 2nd generation Sony BDPS300. Smaller, lighter and (hopefully) plays blu ray discs better than the 1st generation machine.
