That thing is so massive compared to current blu-ray players. I bought a Sony BDP-S360 for almost 1/10th of the price, much more smaller and probably works better than that very first Sony BDP-S1 blu-ray player.
@JMMoosey you are correct, the BDPS360 is better in terms of loading times and size but the build quality of the BDPS1 was amazing. It was actually built originally to sony ES (Elevated Standard) Series specs and has aweome internals. every year manufacturers cut corners to save money and it sucks. anything after the BDPS300/500 series took a huge cut in order to save cost. Cheers.
i see all the sony blu ray players but cant see different they all have same features but prices are different can you give me idea what the difference is
I've had one of these for quite a while (and I got it cheap, $150 at Sears about a year ago). A beautiful looking and well built machine, just like the early generation HD DVD players. Never had a problem, keep the firmware up to date (they still release updates for it) and it plays just about anything.
Check the box on your model. The BDP-S1 has Japan parts and was built IN Japan. Your model has China parts w/ some Japan parts. AND was built in Singapore. Sorry bubba, but the BDP-S1 has Rolls Royce parts to your Audi parts.
Can anyone help me? I have a Blu ray player. And it takes about 60/90 seconds to boot up. Then when inseting a BD-Rom A loading screen with 8 bars comes up for about a minute. Then another loading screen from the disc itself. Anyone know why this happens?
a lot of people have been having problems loading their BLu Ray Players. its a common problem. You should research more online about issues and how to fix them.
I own a ps3, and realy it's not the best blu-ray player on the shelf's BUT you get the biggest bang for your buck and with the new blu-ray live frimewire update out it the best for the money
maybe we don't want to waste $400 on a video game console that will be outdated in a couple of years by a new console maybe we don't like video games i think there just not my thing anymore just getting old good video man you would use your keys to open the box lol good job =)
mine didnt come with the blu ray disc or the cd rom for the computer. is that only for the s1 cause i got the s300. and its also a LOT smaller than this model
this makes me remember the first DVD players that came out....they were huge like this one....i bet that in a couple of years they will be a lot slimmer and cheaper...im sticking with DVD until then :/
I remember exactly what your talking about, I had one of those early DVD players when it came out in 1997. it was huge, and now their smaller and slimmer.
get the bd-p1400 my recomendation but recent news showed that ur gonna have to keep on updating the amount of space u have on a blu-ray player so were selling our samsung to get a ps3 (it has 40gbs of space on it so u dont hav to worry)
Stil waiting for Saving Private Ryan and band of brothers for blu-ray... damn it Paramount, join blu-ray so Spielberg can release Saving private ryan on blu-ray with his own will
it can. you just have to plug the cords and then it will work. press the on button and then theres like some button thatll lift the blue tray up which has all the shit with the disc tray i unno if it has a disc tray but yea
Daily Hollywood trade newspaper THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER on Friday predicted that Blu-ray will "blow away" HD DVD in 2008. And a THR online poll had 76% predicting Blu-ray to prevail.
The reasons THR gave for the Blu-ray predicition: * PS3 gives Blu-ray clear advantage -- already in about 2.7 million U.S. homes. * Blu-ray movies outsell HD DVD movies in Europe by a 3-to-1 margin despite HD DVD players selling at half the price. * Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to accept a $150 million "incentive payment" to go HD DVD exclusive "smacked of desperation."
* Warner's "300" was the best-selling next-gen DVD and 66% of sales are on Blu-ray vs 34% on HD DVD. * Blockbuster's test of both formats is running about 70%-30% in favor of Blu-ray.
As for the online poll: Which high-def disc format will prevail? Blu-Ray - 76% HD DVD - 17% Neither, still a two-format market - 5% I still have a Betamax - 2% Total Votes: 2305 (5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23
No, I don't and I rreally hope they will go to bluray because if they do, bluray will have 70% of the market (I have read), and Sony is just a supporter of bluray, they do not own it, so it does not matter becuase warner bros. will be supporting bluray, not really sony.
I have this player and I LOVE IT! Make sure to register it online or by phone asap. That way Sony can mail you the upgrade disks. I believe you should be at Version 3.5.
hi nice video mate very good quality! but i just wanted to ask is the quality of this standalone blueray player better than the blueray player in the ps3 in terms of quality wise?
Once Disney makes all of their Pixar (Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc. ect., ect.) movies available this war will be over! Also wait till all 6 parts to STAR WARS makes its debut on Blu-ray....GAME OVER for HD-DVD.
Don't hate on Disney-Pixar, jealous a-hole. But no worries on my part. Once that two year "agreement" ends with DreamWorks/Paramount, Blu-ray will own EVERYTHING high def! Bye-bye HD-DVD.
i really dont like the packaging of gadgets other than apple's. come on, steve jobs really caught the demand and the unconscious desire of public with regards to the totality of gadgets.
that's the unboxing of a waste of money, buy a ps3 if you want blu-ray. Ps3 is the same price as the cheepest stand alone player and you get extras (games) with the ps3. PS3 > stand alone players.
blockbuster just chose too stock blu ray over hd dvd in all there stores since the rentals for hd dvds have dropped and so have the sales. Im not a blu ray/ps3 fanboy. if you dont beleive me then search the web.
I had one just like that and what a piece of junk it was! Returned it to C. City after 2 weeks and got an HD DVD player. Still, I`m anxiously awaiting the 2nd generation Sony BDPS300. Smaller, lighter and (hopefully) plays blu ray discs better than the 1st generation machine.
That`s nice video. The first blu-ray pleer outside of Japan. Now is a vintage yet.

why would warner want to support a company that is in direct comp in the movies
sony owns all the rights to the bluray coding so all other studios will have to pay sony rights to use it!
it does not make sense to give your competitor the edge
sony has a large enough share of the electronics and movies why give them even more?
warner will decide to go hd dvd anyone agree
