  • 26 people must think that they are the greatest men that ever lived

  • That piano part in the beginning, my dad said that was the first song he learned to play on piano but he couldn't remember what it was called. Just mentioning that since you're trying to decipher what singers they're channeling.

  • "...Look up and follow the stars"!! LOLOLOLOL

  • This song has all of the best elements of Weezer.

  • AWWWWWWWWWW BBBBBBBBABY

  • @da209freak thank you for leaving once again another terrible comment

  • @iamthefearian no offence, but hes right. anyway, most awesome song ever.

  • wow another song that describes Chuck Norris

  • 0:00 to 1:26 is my favorite part

  • My theme

  • @thepariah65 Austin Aries, is that you?

  • @sgtraytango yes.

  • You're all wrong. I am the greatest man that ever lived. P.S. Stay thirsty my friends ;)

  • omg i love it

  • Pretty sure a majority of the views are from me, just sayin'

  • I just beat Demon's Souls, and got here ASAP.

  • Whenever the teacher asks me what I want to be when I grow up, I’ll say Rivers Coumo

  • so happy weezer finally decided to dedicate a song to me.

  • I've traveled through space fought enemies unseen to the human eye, studied lost arts on planets far and near, I've stood atop Mount Everest and watched the world crumble as time ended.

  • @perun1nj so your master chief?

  • I am the greatest man that ever lived! I eat nails for breakfast, then spit them at unfinished developments and build houses before lunch. I wrestle with cyborg alligators, and karate chop bears in the neck. I rode a missile at a country once, it was lame.I'll punch a dragon's teeth out for his spinner bling. Now I only ride white tigers when I skydive, and try to land on unsuspecting world leaders. I took a whale's lunch money and bought an entire countrie's rations. Now, their called Hungary.

  • @TsubasaOnmitsu Sorry man, the GMTEL wouldn't TRY to land on world leaders, he just would.

  • Ooooohhh BAYBEEEHH I've been told that im goin cRazzzEEEHHHHH.

  • 3:33 obviously best part

  • @Boris222222 That's because he sounds JUST LIKE Billie Joe Armstrong! SO EPIC! But then again, the song itself is totally epic!

  • 1:51,2:17 and 5 those are my favs

  • Greatest Song that Ever Lived.

  • Thumbs Up if you thought of Austin Aries because of the title

  • 1:00 my favorite part :)

  • The greatest song that ever lived :)

  • they should come out with a album and every song is from a section of this song... like have different songs from the different parts of the song. yeah?

  • @poopbagell I think that would be brilliant. This song really impresses me - they may be best when they're in the genre they created themselves, but they are flexible musicians. You gotta figure it can be claustrophobic to be restricted to one style for 20 years.

  • My fucking anthem right now

  • @riegelracing let's get married and it can be our anthem together

  • I was 15 when I got into Weezer in the mid-90's but I gave up on them after the lacklustre 'Make Believe', I didn't think they could impress me again...but this tune changed all that. Weezer still rocking in their 40's

  • Its Drama on the right!

  • Schizophrenia never sounded so beautiful.

  • this is Weezer's Bohemian Rhapsody

  • @zatchbell89 Yes man you got it

  • greatest song that ever lived...

  • I for one, think the rap part is amazing.

  • After the havoc, that im gonna wreek. No more words, will critics have to speak.

    <3

  • this song should have been featured in the movie tombstone...if it hadn't come out long after

  • WHEN THE EF ARE THEY MAKING A NEW ALBUM!!!! Fanboys say. Weezer says when you get sick of the last album and think it's trash. No more Weezer releases since then.

  • How is 2:17 Aerosmith? XD sounds more like Tiny Tim

  • im epic nuff said

  • I will play this at my funeral

  • come like a dog when i ring your bell...bahahah damn!!

  • YEAH YEAH YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Age 9- Pfft weezer? They only have like 1 good song

Age 13- *gets a weezer tattoo*

  • One thing that annoys me, all these people saying Jesus was the greatest man that ever lived. This song out ranks Jesus!

  • @Denarpsaurus boo

  • @krane121 AHHHH

  • i wished they play this song at the oc fair

  • i dont get it... so Weezer did impressions of these bands or were the bands actually there? and whats the purpose of this song? I feel so stupid right now... xD answer back please!!!

  • @irahkriz

They didn't impressionate them. They just sound like them.. They were just experimenting i guess

  • @irahkriz no the artists were not actually there..... weezer just split the song into segments each one using a different style. besides how could bach and beethoven possibly be at the recording....

  • 1:26 my favorite part

  • AUSTIN ARIES

  • Only Weezer could pull this off.

  • im sick of everyone fighting on youtube. just enjoy the damn song

  • I love the Piano in the Background

  • @chuckb11 The only band that appears in this video is Weezer. If you don't like them, that's fine, but if you have nothing better to do than trash talk them on youtube, at least wait until you've heard the song.

  • @chuckb11 troll

  • @poopbagell cry some more fag

  • @chuckb11 dude you're fail is sad lol, you go cry yourself to sleep :)

  • @chuckb11 lol unsuccessful troll.

  • I want this playing at my funeral.

  • I love how when Rivers is singing this song, he's not saying that HE's the greatest man that ever lived. No by dear listeners, he is talking to you. YOU! You are the greatest man that ever lived! He's telling you that if you believe you are the greatest man, you WILL be the greatest man! The song's moral, "Believe in yourself. Key to success."

    Uh if you're a woman, I dunno.

  • the greatest song ever written. <3

  • This fucking song is a masterpiece. Such a myriad of different genres. It sounds arrogant, but it's self-lifting, self-inspiring, self-helping. This song is a messianic calling of one's own soul, it's a song that elevates you to heights you never thought you could imagine. There's nothing wrong with thinking you can be the greatest man ever to live, you must have that confidence, look at all the successful people in the world, this song is a fucking brilliant masterpiece.

  • @dannycrunk well said.

  • @dannycrunk thinking you can be the greatest man in the world sounds pretty narcissistic

  • @MeanMustard650 DAMN RIGHT IT DOES!

  • @dannycrunk I couldn't agree more. This is one of the greatest songs ever written

  • @dannycrunk pretentious

  • @NightlifeSux Very much so!

  • Awesome

  • greatest song that ever lived.

  • i want this to be my funeral song not because i want to toot my own horn but because its a genuinely awesome song.

  • 1:00 Slipknot? Let's just say metal.

  • @themoonsbluelight I LOVE Slipknot, but i totally agree.

  • Then again, let's not say metal, because that wasn't metal.

  • D-Sisive sampled this :P

  • @DeviousDav that song (no more words) is a fucking great track.

  • dont tell people to kill themselves thats just weak. and cruel

  • Everyone who replied to this "timmay" guy:

DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. I think that's one of the rules of the internet. If it's not it should be. People get on these videos and post crap like that specifically for your responses.

  • i think this is weezer's answer to queen

  • Why is it that people compare parts of this song to other bands?

  • they have such amazing musical talent, especially on this album.

  • Man, hearing a song about myself always makes me validated.

  • Live 0:00, Rap 0:35 Slipknot 1:00 Jeff Buckley 1:26 Choral 1:51 Aerosmith 2:17 Nirvana 2:43 Andrews Sisters 3:08 Green Day 3:33 Spoken word (heavily inspired by Elvis' "Are You Lonesome Tonight?") 4:06 Bach 4:37, Beethoven 4:54 Weezer 5
  • @themanwhoownsman Very accurate, though I'd say 2:17 is more Queen than Aerosmith. It's very Freddy Mercury-esque

  • Whilst their influence may be recognized in this song - the title gives away more. It is a variation of a shaker hymn (simple gifts) - which by definition is a set of lyrics that have no actual 'written tune', and have no definite chorus. It takes on many of the transformations of Simple Gifts also. In this it flips the the humbleness of the shaker hymn lyrics. So while they do credit may get those styles, it isn't such a simple song - that is what makes it so amazing.

  • @themanwhoownsman yeah yeah ... there are no new ideas... thanks Plato... ;) ... good calls on relating it to previous styles

  • @themanwhoownsman what u mean with your comment!?

  • @themanwhoownsman i know this song is so great

  • @themanwhoownsman no 2:17 for the beagies lol

  • @themanwhoownsman 0:00 Weezer 0:35 Weezer 1:00 Weezer 1:26 Weezer 1:51 Weezer 2:17 Weezer 2:43 Weezer 3:08 Weezer 3:33 Weezer 4:06 Weezer 4:37 Weezer 4:54 Weezer

  • @Filipjphry PREACH

  • @Filipjphry

no seriously, this song is themed around those bands he listed.

  • @themanwhoownsman I would think 2:17 would be more of Queen.

  • @themanwhoownsman nirvana at 2:43? you should go look up some more nirvana songs man.

  • @xxmikesk8xx you should go listin to i dont give a fucking shit

  • @themanwhoownsman that was mature?

  • @xxmikesk8xx I don't see how it was immature of him...

  • @themanwhoownsman You're good man. And gotta love Bach and Beethoven.

  • @themanwhoownsman haha no not really...

  • @themanwhoownsman this song is like a person

  • @themanwhoownsman Aerosmith 2:17 my fav part

  • @looprloop same that and green day 3:33

  • At first I was like "UGH!!!" than I was like "BLEH!" then I was like "This isn't it so bad" and now I'm all "I hate to admit it, but this is actually pretty good. I find myself head nodding".

  • TheTimmay16 must have made 17 channels XD ha

  • Finally. Weezer wrote a song about Chuck Norris.

  • Rivers even sounds a little like Billie Joe Armstrong in the Green Day section.

  • I think I like this more than Bohemian Rhapsody.

  • @borskyviolin WOAH. Its good, but lets not go THERE!!!

  • why doesn't weezer get a lot of views?

  • Pardon my french, but have you ever heard the terms bastard? Douche bag? They both fit you perfectly.

  • Dear TheTimmay16,

Your jealousy and idiocy combined have resulted in the greatest chode/tool this world has ever known. Your death will be celebrated with "Ding dong the witch is dead" and a great celebration in the streets. The roads will be filled with a turbulent throng of exultant people. You are violent. You are a terrible person. Do you truly wish someone and their family to die in a burning barn?

  • guys shut up

this song is TOO GOOD to argue under

  • i hate when the highest rated comment is a reply to a comment..and i cant find the damn comment he's replying to...

  • @cbcoolkid Click see all, the do ctrl-f and find the guys name.

  • rivers is the greatest man that ever lived ever and that is a definite fact.

  • from the 90's till now weezer holds their own in the music world. lyrical, instrumental and style. their unique and i love them. they always give me good memories from my teen years and even now i rock out when i hear their songs! Go weezer!

  • Weezer is beast

  • i don't always drink beer, but when i do, i prefer dos equis

  • @Slayerhead17 I believe its "I dont always listen to music, but when i do, i prefer weezer" ;)

  • How have I missed this song? I love the music! Not so much the lyrics, they're kinda unweezerly. But the music is awesome.

  • @iamihop11 i disagree. the lyrics are weezerly. hash pipe and tired of sex, for example.

  • @DrMattDestruction Do you read these lyrics as being ironic? I'm not really sure. I think they might actually be face value - arrogant.

People like to cite tired of sex as him being arrogant and full of himself, but I don't think that's what he was going for. I think his point was that he can't figure out the whole "love" thing, which isn't so cocky, after all. And I'm curious what you're going for with hash pipe. I think it's one of the most bothersome songs of his, dark and despondent.

  • @iamihop11 this was arrogant? "i was born to give and give and give." that sounds like a saint to me.

  • @DrMattDestruction And what about the rest of the song? :-) "I'm the tops, I'm the king" "Look up and follow the star" "And I can't help myself cuz I was born to shine"

I think maybe what he's saying is "I'm a star, I'm the best, I'm famous and popular, so I'm going to have people clamoring for me to give my time and energy". What do you think?

  • @iamihop11 imo, the "born to give" lyric makes it not a douchey song. douches don't give, they take.

  • @DrMattDestruction Yeh, I could see that. We'll have to agree to disagree. I do like this song, tho.

  • *nice piano music*

My mind: Oh this is gonna be a nice quiet song

    1:01

*IM THE BADDEST! OF THE BAD!*

  • <3 RED ALBUM!!~

  • everything weezer has done since make believe has been criticised heavily. are they really not that good anymore?

  • @clamantuanguyan I'm pretty sure Pinkerton was pretty heavily criticized. Weezer is fucking awesome.

  • @clamantuanguyan that's not really true.. according to rateyourmusic, people loved pinkerton. but after that it seems not so much. what do you think?

  • They wrote this song about me.........ZING

  • My cuzin showed me this song, and i thought it was just like bohemian rhapsody lol

  • its sound like Queen thumbs up if you agree

  • @kpoke31 God damn thumb-whore... they don't sound like queen, it's just a rhapsody.

  • I wish they had taken every genre in this song and made a complete song from it...

  • This was the last good album Weezer made :(

  • De puta.. Why Dislikeeeee?

  • @TheTimmay16 How can you hate on Weezer. I'm pretty sure that's illegal...
