@MaharlikaAWA this is a form. a technique to practice many variables (speed, change, footwork....) it's not a fight. The skills you get from practicing it ARE useful for real confrontation
And I want to know how the movements are applicable in a real fight. What exactly is he doing to opponents? What scenarios are there? I see him throw his arms circular downward. is that a throw?
Nice dance :) ??? Are you kidding Ppl?? This man will Kick Your Ass Off!! Just try to fight with someone who is practicing this style of Martial Arts and then come back and Comment!!!
Not at all. Baji doesn't have this complex shenfa and the jingang footwork is way more complex and diverse. Jingang uses a lot of whip-like power and Baji uses more whole body power. Baji goes through to opponent and Jingang is more evasive. Nevertheless, Master Zhou does Baji for many years the same as his teachers and their teacher Grandmaster Tian Jin Zhong who learned it from Wu xiu feng. We all put some Baji power into Jingang
Yes, yes, I do see the side shuffles and whipping one wouldn't see in a baji form. Maybe this is what baji+pigua would look like combined. It seems to be a VERY cool form. I say that from the eyes of a martial artist. I hear you on the putting baji into other styles. I have hung gar roots, and put hung basics into everything I do. :)
No I am not asking in that sense. Some Chinese MA use full body muscular power, where as other more "internal" ones use the concepts of "Qi" which can be felt and controlled and used in combat. So how does he explain his kung fu? Using the external concepts or by using the traditional chinese concepts?
Well, we see things a little different. The way I learned internal arts (from master zhou - Xingyi), they actually use whole body power and intent. Most teachers don't even talk about Qi. Qi is a concept that is very difficult to grasp and we can't really influence it directly but we can influence Yi (intent). From my understanding of IMA, one learns to controll his intent and achieve a whole body power. Master Zhou does use full body power as practiced in baji, xingyi and jingang
"internal" or neijia arts begin with different standing postures which are used to meditate, and develop relaxed, timed movements which are either gentle or have intent. "External" or waijia arts begin with developing hardness and power, flexibility. It's a bit of a non-sequitor, as all Chinese martial arts are both external and internal. It's just a matter of the methods which are used as foundation. In addition, both neijia and waijia are traditionally Chinese.
i understand know i went out and mimiced your movements from memory it does propel you forward and it keeps my energy intact with out losing concetration. great technic im going to incorporated into my style.
You are correct to say that Dragon deals with claw and grip work, but this is not it. Dragon used fists a lot. The key is a loose waist using penetrating, percussion like power. The attitude and focus of the strikes are important. Dragons also concentrate on locks, holds, throws, and some grappling. Very versatile and dynamic.
I'm actually a practitioner of the style - One of only a few here in the US that I know of. We have a Xing Yi set that moves a lot like this. And we pracice linear BaGua that has similar application and movements to other videos you've posted. I haven't come across another style that looks so related on all of youtube.. You're stuff is great! I'll post a video of the set I'm talking about and let you compare.
I think there is a limit of applications (moves) our body can do ( 4 limbs...) so it's very possible to find similar techniques in different arts. You call the stile "Li style" but you didn't say who is this mister Li (maybe I know what line he came from). There is no connection between The Xingyi that we practice to Jingang.
As far as I know, it can only be found in Tianjin and Wuhuan. I'de love to see the Li style form and compare myself. Do you have a link to their video?
No relation. Our Baji is from Wu xiufeng. Our Jin gang is from Shi yushan. Tian jinzhong was their student so he learned both arts.
Jin gang ba shi is a complete art.
There were Baji practitioners (Li shuwen) who saw Jingang practitioners (Li ruidong) and liked what they were practicing. So the borowed the basic 8 Jingang hands and combined them into their Baji.
This is why today you can find Baji styles that have 8 hands called Jingang.
As far as I know, you won't find Our Jin gang bashi in Shaolin. The Shaolin monestery got closed after this style was taught outside and when it was restored this art was not taught back to the shaolin monks.
If someone claims he practices the same art, I'de love to see some video's.
there a master from the jingang chan shaolin his name wang shen da. he said the school have the same tradtional shaolin wushu, but with some diffrnces. like all the shaolin parts say that buddah harma the indian monk the founder of the chan buddesim in china, he found the shaolin wushu, but in jingang chan part they say that ba toh the first monk in shaolin timple the founder of the shaolin wushu.
I'm not doubting that this guy could smack me down in a blink of an eye, but some of his moves just look funny :D. Swinging his arms around like he's trying to fly. But I do envy him that he knows these 'forms' and can use them.
yeah, i know, but this is green DRAGON form, kinda imitating a dragon. That's why I like animal forms, they're so fun to watch. Most of them really look good, including this one.
Actualy there is no imitation of a dragon here. Green dragon is one of The Four Celestial Animals :Black Turtle, Red Phoenix, White Tiger and a Green Dragon. This form has to be performed with the flow & spirit of the green dragon.
Someone said that they would like to see this form done on an actual attacker,You are suppose to extract from the form and ADAPT IT TO VARIOUS SITUATIONS.Using your Speed,Timing,Distance and Footwork etc.You must adapt those things to your personal training methods.
Wat about people like Guo Yunshen who practiced only the Beng Quan in the air for some years and was able to defeat his opponents by only this technique...
Everything this instructor does is so damn solid. It's beautiful to watch someone who has spent the time to bring out the explosive power in his traditional form. Wish he taught in the U.S.
i have trained to fight and i train forms, one without the other is useless. forms is a way of training the body and mind like punching pads for hours try living in asia for 2 yrs doing nopthing but training and fighting then comment on weather he is good or not
I know...you guys think you know alot, and it's a fucking Kata...what kata in arts are ever effective in combat? Fuck you guys are noobs. Unbelievable how you're quick to judge somebody's ability to defend himself when you yourself don't know what your talking about (trust me you don't).
If you don't understand how practicing like this helps, i think you are the fool. Yeah it's not that effective alone, though developing your body co-ordination will help more than nothing at all, but you can't go all out in 2 person practice, and you can't be w/ a partner all the live long day. Bag and pad work doesn't always fit certain techniques. So yes, practicing this way is useful.
the "application" demonstrations almost always look really bad and forced. And besides, there's no point in watching those demonstrations before you know how to do the form, should watch and start learning first, otherwise it's kinda pointless.
Can people pull these moves off in real light confrontations?

This is the best video of teacher Zhou I have seen on youtube (and that is saying a lot since all of his videos are top notch).
This is a very good form and the master is very talented in its execution :D

Well, it's my favorite too but it still does him no justice. If you ever see him perform it in person you'll be amazed at his speed and power.

Are there any more videos on this style?

Is it "internal" stuff he is doing or external?

Internal External.....Depends on how you define them as such. Jingang does have standing pole (zhan zhuang) practice and qi gongs

Stomping the ground is not a scaring tactic, it's a way to push the body forward. Therefore there is no need to lift the foot high from the ground.
