no, motion builder is from Autodesk and it's cross-platform. Every tutorial i've ever seen of it was being done on a PC.

well it was actually keyframe animation. painstakingly done while matching the video in back. it didn't happen as fast as I made it look in the video. we use Motion Builder from Alias. They do come with a lot of useful fbx motion files.

What's the best kind of computer to use when making a movie or animation like that?

The type of computer (Mac or PC) doesn't matter. Get the fastest processor, the most RAM, and as much storage as you can afford. You will need to be able to make as many computations as quickly as possible for rendering, and more RAM makes animation easier.

I'm a Mac user myself. Currently I use a Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5, with 6.5 GB of SDRAM. I need more power.

Yes, you need a Mac! You can buy the older models at a good price, and extra RAM is super cheap these days. Peace.
