  • I knew that one 10 years ago

  • Good thing is name wasn't Mike Hunt

  • Joe mentioned it so thought I'd check it out

  • Man I miss Jason Von Flue. This was a great fight with a surprising Submission.

  • @JVitolo He's pregnant now. I hope he pushes it out soon.

  • @wiggalama you're stupid "bite or grab the balls"? First off he's wearing a cup, you'd be grabbing nothing but cup. Second, if you grabbed my balls while I'm on top of you; I'd punt yours up your stomach and out you mouth. Third, who do you think knows more about fighting? You, a fat middle aged guy who works at a department store or a guy who makes a living, off of whoopin ass.

  • Bite or grab your opponents testicles if you are getting von flued like that, simple, fucking sport crap.

  • @wiggalama How exactly are you going to bite when someone's shoulder is driven right into your throat, preventing you from moving much of anything above your neck. And grabbing the balls? You're aware how adrenaline works right? A crotch shot isn't a guaranteed fight ender by a very long shot.

  • @LordGosai Its easy to move your teeth there guy, and the groin is full of massive nerves, but its the base of the bottom when weakened that is key. I merely clipped with a front kick from my Shotokan stance and took a classic kick boxer out in a good fight I had when he challenged me. I know the kick and attacks to the groin do work, but you do have a point if he is drugged up enough in terms of pain, BUT we must remember that the mechanics of the body being hurt will make u win.

  • @wiggalama If you wanna trade anecdotes I've been hit in the crotch multiple times in my life, as I'm sure any young man has been especially any young man who grew up and went to public school during the popularity of 'Jackass' and only rarely have I seen that kind of thing 'take someone out' usually it's more of an annoyance.

I'm still not sure the posture of this choke is going to let you get a mouthful of much anything though.

  • I won my fight in the video response by using this choke....very effective as ammy fighter are very guilotine happy!

  • @xvidzzz 1, the guillotine most likely wont work. 2, not all moves work in all place's, you have to adjust, improvise, or simply move to another move.

  • what is vonflue's full name

  • @ClarkRandomness Jason Von Flue

  • In learned this in Judo, I was tapping out when my sensei did this before he could fully apply. When done properly you start blacking out and it gives you a sharp pain as well.

  • fake and gay

  • @fibz1111

    lulz

  • having a choke named after you is awesome

  • I just won my mma fight last night with this choke...tall ass guy I fought kept trying to guilitone me...and he tapped other wise he woulda went too sleep...Im suprised more fighters dont go for this cause all of the guilotine attempts now adays

  • he looks dead...

  • whats this called?

  • YOU CANT SEE this choke coming.

  • nice job cousin

  • nice job cousin

  • This choke saved me many many times from my teachers guillotine :)

  • i remember Von FLue he was pretty cool and so was that choke

  • you a bad bitch if you get a move named after you.

  • Excellent counter to the guillotine. The natural escape going to the ground in a bad guillotine anyhow is to get to side control asap to remove any leverage, I've never gotten this in a live setting yet but grappling practice and practice with my friends i've sank it a few times. :) gotta love that BJJ

  • Never hold a Guillotine in side control.

  • THis is the only time wev ever seen this pulled off in televised MMA. Big ups to Von Flu for pulling this shit off.

  • @DonWon313 I think Court McGee pulled one off in his last fight. Might be wrong.

  • @pearcemark2 you dead wrong homie

  • @ResidentNinja As I remember there was definite pressure on his jaw. Even it's pressing on the neck and only touching the jaw a bit, it could still be very painful if the jaw is broken. And just because Rogan says something doesn't mean it's true... Really though you might be right; it's just not how I remember it. I'd have to watch it again.

  • @manabisugiru yeah im surprsied joe didnt yell out, HES GOT THE OMOPLATA. RUBBER GUARD. MEAT HOOK. seems like he always says that. I swear ill pay money if someone puts up a compilation of joe rogan makin references to the rubber guard or any eddie bravo move. He needs to get off his nuts!

  • @sequalofdecay hes hardly on eddies nuts, but when you train something that people always hate on then you see guys publicly using it to increase their position or get a sub you wanna make sure people understand whats happening and that your shit works :)

  • @sequalofdecay Great comment!!!

  • Isn't this pretty similar to what Clay Guida did against Dos Anjos?

  • @ResidentNinja Dos Anjos had a broken jaw though. Interesting that nobody picked it up if he did though.

  • @FireProMMA Yeah it's not really why he tapped though.

In the replays it was eas to see that no pressure was being applied to his jaw though.

Convenient excuse for losing is all.

Also, was it just me or did Guida look awesome in that fight?

  • @ResidentNinja it looked pretty clear to me that guida was leaning on him (intentionally or not) in a way that mashed his head up against the cage with his shoulder against his jaw, and his face grimaced in pain as it happened... maybe it's just my memory but it seemed pretty clearly a reaction to presumably unbearable pain in his jaw.

  • @thinkpad20 In the replay it was clearly show that Guida's should was pressed into his neck, and not contacting his jaw.

Even Rogan commented that it wasn't contacting his jaw when he tapped out.

  • wow never thought this dork would actually have a choke named after him, good shit tho Im not hating. Its a good, sneaky technique. Thats all that matters.

  • Anyone know? did he make this up during the fight or did he train for it?

  • he invited his own choke?!! genius

  • Invented

  • IMO the von flue choke is a variation of a triangle arm choke. however its actually very different, its very effective when facing someone who does not know about it

  • Great quality vid, Thanks

  • Thumbs up if Sumbissions 101 sent you here.

  • @aceofclubs546 they did lol

  • @aceofclubs546 My thumbs down is because Subs101 didnt send me here. When I first used this choke it was a lil' different, I was actually caught in a guillotine and put my ass in the air and my shoulder in my opponents neck. I was pretty much telling myself,"You're going to bed!", then the next thing I noticed was my opponents guard opened up and, the guillotine was released and he was passed out from the shoulder pressure. Then I got it from side just the way Von Flue does and it's beautiful!

  • great submission, simple and effective if the guy on bottom goes for the guillotine and is stuck in side-control

  • i was thrilled and kinda pissed to see a guy do this, i had this as an idea a long time ago, never got to try it but at least i saw it works.

but now im just a douchebag claiming i came up with something

  • @narezul to be perfectly logical i'm sure someone in the long long history of grappling has choked someone out like that before (not to take anything away from von flue). i've "come up" with stuff i've later found to be pre existing, just proves we're thinking outside the box ;)

  • @IrishRhavin I fully agree with you. I have always stated that we are only re-discovering what the Greeks and Romans, I would assume, had already figured out. I just happened to figure this move out before somebody else ran back across it.

  • Bad ass choke. Thanks for mentioning this, Rogan.

  • looks like von flue broke it up ,where was the ref??

  • Joe ROgan just mentioned this on the UFC 114 prelims

  • @ThousanWhite yup haha

  • Rogan made me!

  • he created a move, awesome

  • I went 11-0 ammy and I'm 3-0 pro and never once have I been taught that Shit lol wow I like it

  • @bricksmma

you should try to get on TUF or somethin dude

  • i teach catch wrestling and this is one of my favorites ,im teaching this one day and one of my students sais " thats a von flue choke ". im a old man and not with the times so i had to look it up. i like it because with slight changes it can be done from side control , mount , guard and half guard . its great to see it applied so effectively . if you can get your shoulder under the chin or jaw line , they usually just tap from the pain of their jaw being manipulated .good job sir !!!

  • in a sense of the matter its a variation of an arm triangle but its much more than that since he used his shoulder to do the choke i guess u could call it a shoulder traingle?

  • its all about leverage. i have seen good grapplers tap from a guillotine in the side mount. it's very rare but if you elevate your hips while defending the full mount you can put leverage of it in just a way as to get the guillotine from side mount. nothing is impossible.

  • Whats the choke called

  • @TopazSkillMauler lol....a von flue choke

  • O lol i thought the vid meant vonflu choked him out

  • @nhlfan74 lol

  • this is probably one of the best defenses against a guillotine choke. I love it

  • It's not really a defense against the guillotine simply because you should let go of their head once they pass to side mount. Continuing to hold the head will lead to this or an arm triangle.

  • hell yes. it rules.

  • thats pretty damn hard when your being side mounted. its hard enough to escape let alone execute a guillotine.

the person being sidemounted has no real threat or power if they headlock you like that. its an annoyance.

  • you cant. the choke comes from side control or gaurd, if the hooks are in its not effective because your shoulders are too low

  • What you do is plan your shoulder into their neck and push your weight down. What happens is either they release pressure or completely let go and you're back into their guard. But key is, in guillotine and in their guard, you have to prop up on your legs and from their push your body weight into their neck with your shoulder

  • i remember me and my dad were watching this and we couldnt figure out how to do it. i was the test dumby while my dad choked me out for about a hour

  • @Leno1DAC lol

  • @xvidzzz ur fucked lol.

  • i learned this in class today

  • Awesome shoulder pressure

  • lol I love jason, he doesnt teach this one in his class tho, even tho hes a bit of a brute hes very safe and aware of injuring other fighters as well as classmates

  • Great move! Use it all the time.

  • jason is actually my grappling coach at FKA in clovis CA, he uses because most people dont train for it or see it get set up, yes it is a bit of a brutish technique for jiu jitsu but thats just jasons style of grappling. Most people think hes just resting or positioning in side mount so they let him do it.

  • its an awesome move to counter guillotine chokes. I start the choke by defending the guillotine and then move to side control to sink it in.

  • haha i do this all the time to my friend when we grapple...the only move he knows is the guillotine...although when he gets into full guard and does it i have to tap 75% of the time...

  • try jumping into side control (if possible) and turning your neck towards his body so his forearm isnt under your neck and thatll stop the choke but if its really tight dont break your neck lol just tap

  • Well than thank god it's Sport.

  • When it's on correctly, he will only have about 5 seconds to do whatever he wants with that free hand, then he will be sleeping.

  • Why is this comment so put down, it is true.

  • Never provoke an opponent in dominant position, its a good way to get killed.

  • you grab my balls while i do this choke then you will go unconscious and become a fag at the same time.

  • no you're just a retard if you think things are effective only because you don't consider all the options in a real fight.

  • pls man a guy who has a wrestler as profile-pic is not in a position to talk about real fights XD

in a real life situation a choke is the worst thing that can happen to you besides a knife attack. Once the choke prevents the blood of leaving your head back to the heart your left down with your natural reflexes. Basically this means, you'll make grunting noises your arms will try to break the choke most of the people will grab the leg or the arm that is choking and finally you'd go to sleep.

  • I thought it was a fluke when I first seen it. Anybody no where I can find an earlier fight of Von flu using his now signature move?

  • nice submission, cant expect that

  • All Karalexis had to do was let go of that "guillotine" and he would have been ok

  • Incorrect. When done properly, the opponent cannot pull out the arm.

  • I meant before. He is in that mess because he wouldnt give up his failed guillotine. By the time he was being choked..it was too late and his arm was stuck

  • @lonerjoshy you are right. i hate this choke with a passion but no you can't pull your arm out once its on the neck. it is extremely effective with a gi on also. bruce lee said "simplicity is the key to greatness" this is not a simple choke by any means.

  • @forbesfoofighters actually, it's a very simple choke. ive watched the instructional on how to do it and although it's difficult to set up and will only work against an inexperienced or panicking opponent, all you really do is wrap your arms around the opponent and lean on his neck. granted, getting him to hold your head in SC is a bit harder.

  • @0slick0rick0 it is an opportunistic submission for sure but i can think of a lot better things to do from a position as dominant as side mount than a "von flue choke". passing to mount, a kimura/straight arm bar, arm triangle or a simple arm bar would probably all have a higher success rate from that position.

  • If you look closely you can see his right arm is actually trapped during the choke and that's why he can't get it out. You'll notice he even releases the grip and his left arms begins to try and push him off.

It's not as easy to escape as you make it sound.

  • Samuel Braga is the boss with this move, he calls it the shoulder of justice.

  • @ the end he said thx to everyone and also he said thx to God and was prayin

  • does anybody know if it was announced as, " winning by way of Von Flue Choke" ?

  • they announced it as a technical submission but never said the name of it

  • hahaha so the first time he pulls it off they immediately name it a von flue choke??

  • He said in that it was hes third time he used it

  • And btw ill never try a guillotine on von flue ever again =D haha shout out to royce gracie jiu-jitsu of fresno

  • I train directly under von flue and lesson is keep him in gaurd when going for the guillotine. Position over submission. And no its not an arm triangle

  • Thank you!

  • @runninriot15 thank you so fucking much. I had a jitsu match recently and I though of this comment r and I feel this comment got me out of a precarious situation and got me the win

  • @runninriot15 this simple technique has helped me so much.. i even invites guilotines just to use this choke......they never know whats coming.

  • @runninriot15

Wouldn't he be able to relieve the pressure if he let go of neck with the right arm and tried to frame Flue upwards??

  • @hookah777 He can't. The non choking arm traps the guillotine in place.

  • @LHSStuntman

Ahh, fucking nice man. Didn't see that

  • @hookah777 Yeah, haha. It's hard to see from this angle.

  • I can also finish from inside the guard. Not easy, but yes, can be done. Pedro S. up in Salt Lake City, UT showed me the move from inside guard originally and I just modified it to side mount and half guard

  • carlson aught us that years ago its was not an accident its a techniques you can do it from full guard there are diffrent variations

  • You guys can always hit me up to do a seminar on it...lol

  • Von Flue?

  • @evergreenoldboys13 more like "Von Who" hehehahahaha ( like the anoying orange laugh..)

  • @thelivewire187 lol i think this might be jason, his fight team out here AT FKA is team livewire, its also his fight name, dont know if andrew is on it or tho tho

  • @genjibob Yip, it's me. I'm at Athletic Performance in Clovis now running Live Wire Kickboxing and MMA.

  • he just didnt jump to the other side control

  • If you watch some of the instructionals on this technique you can see how he does it. I wouldn't call it an arm triangle but some would, it's all semantics.

  • ya its def an arm triangle

  • day one stuff, let go of the guillotine and you wont get arm triangled.

  • not an arm triangle

  • ye i agree he shoudnt have holded on to the guilatine.

  • That guy on the bottom was a moron! Everyone knows that you don't keep the guillotine if the other guy has side control. I have never seen this choke before, but it looks interesting. After he starts the choke, is the guy on the bottom unable to get his arm from around his head. I mean if you are being choked out, then change something. Don't stay there and get choked... move! Let go of the guy's head or something! Interesting though! Thanks.

  • "After he starts the choke, is the guy on the bottom unable to get his arm from around his head."

You can't see it from this angle, but he's got the arm trapped on the other side.

  • Check out the video from Submissions 101 Von Flue Choke. It should be in related videos.

  • how did he do it? i gotta learn it
