How well does it do running DVD .VOB files and .MPGs? Does the resolution of the video need to by dumbed down to accomodate that of the screen? If this machine can keep up with my HD fractal videos it could be a nifty add-on to my presentation machines.
I have not used a external DVD drive with it. I have tried to connect a USB external Sony DVD drive but I was unable to get it to recognize the drive. After playing movies stored on the USB Kingston drive, I found the movies to lag and the picture would go out of sync with the sound. This Asus EEE PC is the very first model and is using a celeron processor. The newer models use the Atom processor and should provide better performance. I would not use it for more than just web browsing.
Thanks Glock, good buddy. I enjoyed this a lot! Do you read "Laptop" magazine? If not, check it out next time you're at the bookstore or newstand. They do some excellent comparison with the ASUS and the Dell Mini Laptops. I don't think I will ever get one, but they are fun to look at!
I believe Asus EEE PC was one of the first micro lap tops on the market. I was considering to purchase a PDA at first, then the Asus caught my eyes. It was ultra small and had the full functionality of a computer for the price of a PDA. It was no brainer. I even like my 7inch screen, though they now have a 9inch screen. Its a nice toy for browsing the web at coffee shops or viewing your work saved on SD or Flash drives. Its fantastic for using like a oversized ipod with a huge screen.
