i though the same thing about the hoarding when i went to the Vatican.
i remember i ended up in some area that felt like a basement... there were shelves upon shelves of gold bowls and sparkly jewels and trinkets made of ivory, all dusty and kinda badly kept... i got kinda depressed. i dunno.
in alot of cases when you see a sign specificaly saying "no photos (or pictures)" it's mainly a plea for no flash photography. the flash tend to deminish the vibrancy of paintings.
So I am planning a trip to Rome and I remembered this video and the other Rome video. It actually has been helping me a lot while planning. I just wish the @LinzLoves blog still was up. Does anyone know where I could find those posts anywhere else?
It's so cool! We had a school trip to Italy a few weeks ago (we went to Florence 2 days, 3 to Rome and 3 to Napoli) and I see a lot of things in your videos that I also saw there! It's amazing to see them back and recognize them. Thanks! Love Italy :)
Very fun to see you attempting to see the Vatican in two hours. As a documentary film maker who spent 4 weeks in Rome it is great to see what you were able to glean in 2 hours.

@zenoparodie well, he did give up control of the papal states provided they could have the area of vatican city. they don't need to pay taxes a) they would be exempt from taxes under laws protecting religion b) vatican city is its own country, therefore doesn't pay taxes to italy, as it actually isn't part of it
ahhh. i love these videos because i know where all the places areee! i went to italy with my school over break and watching these videos makes me miss it sooooo muchhh <3
i went to vatican it was awesome :) we went really earliy right and that morning the pope was there and 100,000 people were leaving as we aere arriving haha it was so cool :)
Great video, really enjoyed it...makes me feel lucky now that I got into the Bascilica when I was in Rome as it is magnificent !!. Love your dog in the background too....regards, Pauline in Limerick Ireland.
@LinzLoves2:10 = The Scraper, which in greek i think is Apoxyomenos. :) the statue is meant to be portraying an olympic athlete scraping wax i think of off himself. keywords to all of the above: "i think".
I went to Italy in eighth grade with a people to people delegation and first place we went was the Vatican. We had been up for like 40 hours so we all went through the Sistine Chapel really fast and nearly fell asleep near the doors at the end. Thinking about it now, that probably wasn't a good idea.
Thanks Linz, my social studies teacher assingned everyone in my class a fomus person in history to research and dress up as to give a report at the end of the year and I got Michelangelo and it was really neat to see some of his work in your video. Your awsome and I love all your videos!!
I hate people who use camera's with a flash in a museum when it clearly says NO PICTURES. The flash of your machine is bad for the paintings. You can compare the damage done to paintings with a permanent sunburn.
Hey Linz! Where do you think you'll travel to next? I would love to see an Amsterdam vlog. I plan on studying abroad there soon and I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about it. It would be great to see what you think.

Great video, I really enjoyed learning about your experiences in Rome - so thanks for sharing =)
My sister lives in Rome and I never got to visit her but I definitely want to. My dad actually managed to take a lot of good pictures in the Sistine Chapel when he was there last year.
So I read your tweets about your next trip. Are you planning to go to Berlin? If so, I live there and if you have any questions or need any advice feel free to ask me :))
when I was there it was in the middle of the summer so no rain but the lines were so looooooong and it was really hot. So I don't know what's better...
Lindsay you should have done a tour, thats how I saw the Vatican it made it muuuuch better because you actually learned what you were looking at and why it was important
Great video.. I am glad you enjoyed it... I just finished 2 weeks in NZ and New Years Eve at a party at the Sidney opera house. The best view in Sydney,,great party, drinks and food. The band played till 3am.... our flight out was at 3am on the 1st... 2 hours sleep then on a plane coming home.. Go girl. Travel all you can. The world cant take away your education or memories.. That is the basis for a great life.
would the interwebz be interested in some weekly/daily vlogs made in by a 20 year old university girl living in Dubai. Please be honest, also the video on my channel is for a small university health project, pls ignore haha
Seeing the video, I want to go back to Rome. Like right now. I loved it at the first time, but now, since I've studied so much more about the architecture, culture, art I'd appreciate it more!
You are so awesome. Are you planning on traveling anywhere else? My boyfriend and I want to go traveling and such and after watching your videos and hearing your advice and where you stayed and such, I feel much more comfortable with the idea of going to a foreign country because I guess now I know what to expect? AND a great place to stay! :-) So thank you!

I am so jealous :) I've always wanted to go there. I can't believe you didn't spend the money on the map though. You probably looked at some amazing pieces of art and didn't even realize what they were! I think I could spend a week just laying on the floor staring up at the ceiling in that place...beautiful ♥
Your trip seemed like such fun! I'm so jealous! I would love to go to Rome someday! Anyway, are you still posting a video of your day in Paris? I would love to see it as I love France and I love Paris! I was there for three days over spring break last year. :) Beautiful city!
People who are traveling to Europe keep in mind that alot of museums in Paris are free or half prize for EU citizens under 25. In London most of the museums are free for everybody. In rome EU citizens under 25 can get a 50% discount. If you are a American you should find a group of young Europeans and hang with them near the entrance to get in for free or for half prize. Don't be scared it's not robbing or something like that
I know I said it in your other Rome videos, but thank you Linz! Going to Rome is #1 on my bucket list, and watching these makes me want to go even more. So next ime you wanna go lemme know if you want a traveling partner! Lol
It's actually really nice to see a American visiting Europe and vloging about it. I'm from Europe but I traveled around Europe last spring and summer. I was wondering @LinzLoves where are you going to go next? Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam or some Eastern-European country? Heck If you come here I would be willing to show you around Tallinn, but as it's winter and really snowy at the moment I think you won't come here.
@LinzLoves (Continuing) But as you are female you have to be a bit aware of who you stay with. If you are going to Amsterdam or Paris I can suggest you some people that I stayed with and who werent killers or rapists. But as a lot of girls in the parties said there are many guys just up for a f… in CS. That's a thing that you can avoid if you do your research but your never 100% sure. If you'd like to have a bit more information about CS you can contact me through Twitter @RonaldLiive
@LinzLoves (Continuing) I went to two different Couchsurfing parties in Amsterdam also, it was so nice cause there was so many different nationalities together and we had a great time. One of the parties was just a party in a bar, the other one was a dinner party so we cooked all kinds of different food for eatch other. By the way I met a lot of young American girls who were Couchsurfing and all of them said theire having a good time CS'ing not staying at a hotel or a hostel…..(goes on)
@LinzLoves have you considered doing some Couchsurfing in your new trip to somewhere in Europe? That way you would have a even better time in Europe cause you'll see how people here get on with their everyday stuff. I Couchsurfed last year in Amsterdam and Paris. I stayed at 5 different peoples place and only one of them was not so good experience. The one bad experience was just that the guy wasn't up to talk with me so it was kinda aqward. But besides that I had a really nice time....(goes on)
I'm not a religious person, but sacred art, artifacts and historical writings are such an important part of human history and seeing all those famous pieces (and not so famous) works of art made for a wonderful video =). It's just a shame some of the greatest documents and things aren't allowed to be seen by the general public =(
@umaga61923 Vatican City has a dress code and you have to be in compliance with the dress code to enter the church. It's probably because of the religion and they don't want anyone wearing anything that would be considered "inappropriate."
@umaga61923 cause its holy and stuff....you know....religion.....its weird like that. also it does make you think where did the catholic church get all the money? what a waste.
@extremleise nope, we let them work in other places that aren't sweatshops like Foxcon. Or how about with an illegality of child labor in those countries, the lessened workforce would allow those kids' parents make more money(assuming the system of government is communist) so they can have a nicer life.
@ItsBreezeeB Guys can get a good one from Jos A Bank. Don't pay more than 300 for it though, they ask 600 sometimes just for the people who will actually pay that.
Great Video Linz! Thanks for sharing, and for your great advice. I'm really looking forward to your next adventure... (Maybe you and Natalie Tran should get together and do a traveloge...? - just throwing that out there...)
i was there like 2 weeks ago. definitely should get an audio guide... its a waste of money going there and NOT seeing the famous sculptures and you wouldnt learn jack shit about michelangelos frescos if you didnt have audioguide...that is if u didnt no before
@JommoT Some people don't care about the sculptures and other old stuff. I appreciate culture and history but when I'm traveling I don't want to see all of the historical places. I've been around Europe and the best experiences I've had have been when I just tried to blend in with the local people. Yeah I always did some touristi places but the little places that no guidebook talks about are the most awesomest places.
How do you feel about traveling alone as a women? Hopefully, I will be traveling to England after graduation. I plan on going by myself even though my family doesn't like that since they think its too dangerous. I know it can be, but it can be dangerous anywhere you travel or live.
@meemer72 I'm not a women but as I traveled last year around Europe I've got some pointers for you. Basically if you are staying at a hostel you are fine. In hostels boys and girls are separated so nobody would start having sex there. The only part is to keep an eye out for your belongings in the hostel, almost all of them have got some safes you can use for some money. You should find somebody from the hostel that you can hang out with in the city, it's just better doing it together than alone.
@meemer72 As you are going to England you don't have to be that scared about studs wanting to sweep you away. English people are just going to drink, drink and drink and then do stupid things. But French, Spanish and Italian guys are the real studs in Europe, they try to hook up with everybody and everything that moves. Litteraly. So you'd need to keep an eye out for them
you realy should atleast buy a guide map, you said "its a waiste of $12" but surley the fact you didnt know anything about any of the amazing pieces that $12 would have been worth it even to point out some key statues such as "Laocoön and His Sons" or some of michelangelo and rafiels most famous pieces, you went all the way there so its worth it to know what your seeing
i though the same thing about the hoarding when i went to the Vatican.

RonaldsThings 1 year ago

By the way I met a lot of young American girls who were Couchsurfing and all of them said theire having a good time CS'ing not staying at a hotel or a hostel…..(goes on)
RonaldsThings 1 year ago
@LinzLoves have you considered doing some Couchsurfing in your new trip to somewhere in Europe? That way you would have a even better time in Europe cause you'll see how people here get on with their everyday stuff. I Couchsurfed last year in Amsterdam and Paris. I stayed at 5 different peoples place and only one of them was not so good experience. The one bad experience was just that the guy wasn't up to talk with me so it was kinda aqward. But besides that I had a really nice time....(goes on)

the reason cameras arn't allowed is because flash photography actually damages paintings and you can only restore a painting so many times

I'm not a religious person, but sacred art, artifacts and historical writings are such an important part of human history and seeing all those famous pieces (and not so famous) works of art made for a wonderful video =). It's just a shame some of the greatest documents and things aren't allowed to be seen by the general public =(

possibly a dumb question but why cant you wear a tank top or short shorts in the vatican?
umaga61923 1 year ago
@umaga61923 Vatican City has a dress code and you have to be in compliance with the dress code to enter the church. It's probably because of the religion and they don't want anyone wearing anything that would be considered "inappropriate."

@umaga61923 you make god sad?

@umaga61923 cause its holy and stuff....you know....religion.....its weird like that. also it does make you think where did the catholic church get all the money? what a waste.

@hiimmooky so you let them starve..?
extremleise 1 year ago
@extremleise nope, we let them work in other places that aren't sweatshops like Foxcon. Or how about with an illegality of child labor in those countries, the lessened workforce would allow those kids' parents make more money(assuming the system of government is communist) so they can have a nicer life.
hiimmooky 1 year ago
@ItsBreezeeB Guys can get a good one from Jos A Bank. Don't pay more than 300 for it though, they ask 600 sometimes just for the people who will actually pay that.

i was there like 2 weeks ago. definitely should get an audio guide... its a waste of money going there and NOT seeing the famous sculptures and you wouldnt learn jack shit about michelangelos frescos if you didnt have audioguide...that is if u didnt no before
JommoT 1 year ago
@JommoT Some people don't care about the sculptures and other old stuff. I appreciate culture and history but when I'm traveling I don't want to see all of the historical places. I've been around Europe and the best experiences I've had have been when I just tried to blend in with the local people. Yeah I always did some touristi places but the little places that no guidebook talks about are the most awesomest places.

How do you feel about traveling alone as a women? Hopefully, I will be traveling to England after graduation. I plan on going by myself even though my family doesn't like that since they think its too dangerous. I know it can be, but it can be dangerous anywhere you travel or live.
meemer72 1 year ago
@meemer72 I'm not a women but as I traveled last year around Europe I've got some pointers for you. Basically if you are staying at a hostel you are fine. In hostels boys and girls are separated so nobody would start having sex there. The only part is to keep an eye out for your belongings in the hostel, almost all of them have got some safes you can use for some money. You should find somebody from the hostel that you can hang out with in the city, it's just better doing it together than alone.
RonaldsThings 1 year ago
@meemer72 As you are going to England you don't have to be that scared about studs wanting to sweep you away. English people are just going to drink, drink and drink and then do stupid things. But French, Spanish and Italian guys are the real studs in Europe, they try to hook up with everybody and everything that moves. Litteraly. So you'd need to keep an eye out for them

I'm pretty familiar with the Vatican,
I beat up the pope there in Assassin's Creed 2!

The Vatican is one of the few places where joining a tour group isn't a waste of money.

The only reason they didnt want any pictures taken was because the flash is a light and they say it causes the colors to fade.

@barmybuck euro not dollar.
dcanaday426 1 year ago
you realy should atleast buy a guide map, you said "its a waiste of $12" but surley the fact you didnt know anything about any of the amazing pieces that $12 would have been worth it even to point out some key statues such as "Laocoön and His Sons" or some of michelangelo and rafiels most famous pieces, you went all the way there so its worth it to know what your seeing
barmybuck 1 year ago 77
@barmybuck she said it was 12 euros, which is about $20.
