@cailou153 no, you do not have to do this step at all. i am just trying to make the numbers smaller so that they are easier to work with is all.

This is just me Patrick, But I'd divide everything out by 4. Make's it easier for the numbers to work with.

Once you have 3x + z = 6, note that z = 6-3x, Also note from x-y+2z=5 and 2x+y-z=1, that if you add twice the second to the first, you eliminate the z term and leave 5x+y=7, so y = 7-5x. Then substitute into equation 3, 3x-2y-3z=-10 to get the x=1 solution. Then you already have the y and z values in terms of x ready to plug in.
