  • OMG!!! My dad is an Ex-marine(retired!) and he used to love watching the drill team, he wasn't part of it (obv.) but he was part of the Marines, the ones who fought....

  • Semper Fidelis.

  • Nice glide stepping

  • it always puts a smile to face. Cpl Wheeler 1992-1998

  • It's not that silent oj lol very good indeed

  • silent as in no commands are called =p

  • the reason they call it the silent drill team is because there are never any commands given for the movements. So all of the focus is on the sound and movements of the weapons

  • "silent" means there is no verbal commands.

  • It's called "silent drill" because there are no verbal or musical commands to indicate time or maneuver.

  • and watching them practice near the Iwa Jima memorial makes it even more awesome. I lived in D.C. for years and found it great spending time watching them practice.

  • You would think it would be self-explanatory...

  • my bro was in this vid

    go coty

  • do all marines have to know how to do this in order to graduate? lol if that's the case i should reconsider..my hand eye coordination isn't as keen as it use to be

  • no. this is a special group of marines that are specially trained to do this. if you join the marine corps then you will learn basic armed regulation drill, but i do not believe you will learn any of the armed exhibition (what they do in this vid)

  • Not all Marines. Just anyone wanting on the Drill Team.

  • Fail, Marines are hand selected not just chosen out of random, you cant just join.

  • No, you don't need to know how to do THIS. You will need to know DNC (drill and ceremonies) which does require some handeye coordination. Stuff like marching in cadence (rhythm) with everyone else, saluting without whacking yourself in the eye or people immediately to your right, doing an about face without falling down, standing at attention for long periods without passing out and cracking your skull on the pavement...stuff like that.

  • i did stuff like that at school....

the commandant of the regional cadet corps, praise my platoon since no one pass out for like 2-3 hours

  • Not to this level, when in Boot Camp you will learn basic drill(Hence the name Drill Instructors). But you will not have to learn it to this degree, and your basic drill will have verbal commands(not silent)

  • I don't see how they get that good.

  • lots of pratice

  • this is perfection at its best. my parents are buried at arlington natl cem. yea this is great.. i salute them

  • That degree of dedication and skill is why the hajis will never win-we may leave Ir and Af, but that does not mean they won.

  • sempi fi

  • The United States is not going to leave Iraq or Afghanisan, Our Commander in Chief has ordered additional troops to Afghanistan aside from the 30,000 troop surge. Where`s the change?

  • good, nice. you've got moves

  • semper fi!

  • ive always loved watching these guys perform due to the perfection of their movements....they move as one and that is what makes them pretty much perfect, id like to be a marine but not sure that would be a good idea because of all the things that ppl who join the marines or the army have to leave behind,,,,,their families, their friends....and all of them hoping that he/she will return to them safe and sound....but good luck to anyone that is joining the marines and good job to those already in

  • Great Comments. Thank you. Semper Fi!

  • oh wow this is what marine cena does

  • If you mean John Cena, hes not a Marine. He only played one in the movie.....

  • semper fi!!!

  • Semper Fi!

My parents and all my siblings were marines and soon ill be one.

    thanks for sharing!

  • It seems to me that while Americans are proud of their history and thier military personal and preserving the customs of thier nation. England ( the now sad nation that we are ) seems happy to destroy all of thier Historic and miltary history. We do not even teach our national antheme in schools or teach british history to our children & we no longer have military hospitals I don't think we would ever survive another world war if there was to be one.

    Greeting from the UK

    Thanks for sharing...

  • Thanks for your comments. And keep the faith. Semper Fi!

  • its the 10th buddy

  • The BEST. Otherwise, I am rendered speechless.

  • I was in tyhe Marines and they still impress the hell out of me. What discipline.

  • Damn, I'm proud of these young men. Not just "for once in my life I'm proud to be an American", but for all my life.

  • That rifle inspection is the BOLLOCKS...WOW

  • Marines are true men. :)

  • Any branch. As long as your in the American Military, you are a real man, or a real woman. Respect to them all.

    (Hooah)

  • HOOAH!! to you! Couldn't have said it better myself! :)

  • Amen to that.

  • Rifle inspection by the sarge always amazes me. The hours and hours that go into practicing every single move. Amazing, just amazing. Especially when considering that the M1 is significantly heavier than those plastic toyguns we have these days.

  • Never refer to a Marine as Sarge it is Sgt. or nothing, just a reminder

  • I was lucky enough to see the Silent Drill Team & Drum & Bugle Corps at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard (long time ago) for a dedication of the 3rd divisions battleflags - this makes me proud to be a Marine after all thos years. For the young guys that are going in - remember the Change is Forever - you are coming into a band of brothers that will always be there for you, no matter what the situation. OOH RAH

  • Hello, nice job.

I go to boot camp july 28th.

  • Hey silentdrillteam... let me just say one thing. Why the hell would you say this is an EXCEPTIONAL performance? These guess are flawless!

  • I love the usmc they are so cool

  • DAMN!!!!!!!! He flung that rifle up in the air and he caught it with no problem

  • USMC's drill looks better than any other armed force's drill in the world.

  • i had my audition for the Commandants Own on euphonium and made it!! i head out to boot camp at the end of june 08!!

  • Damn thats impressive!

I think getting a squad to do normal rifle drill perfectly in time is hard enough.

Alot of respect for the USMC there, coming from an Englishman aswell

  • "From the Halls of Montezuma

    to the Shores of Tripoli,

    We fight our country's battles

On the land as on the sea.

First to fight for right and freedom,

And to keep our honor clean,

We are proud to claim the title

    of United States Marine.

To OORAHKID: From one very Proud Marine Mom, Congratulations and welcome to the Marine Corps family! Semper Fi! Ooh Rah!

  • Just finished Boot and had the privilege of Silent Drill coming to perform on Depot while my brother and I were going through recruit training. I just graduated and my brother will in 5 weeks. I can't tell you how happy my mother is of us. Oorah to all the Marine Moms that we leave behind. We love you! Remember to send your recruits lots of mail.

  • Congratulations Marine. You are the future of the Corps. Semper Fi!

    Semper Fi!

  • I ship to Boot in July

  • Congratulations and best of Luck in Boot Camp. be ready when you get there, work on your 3 mile run times, pull ups and sit ups, and you'll be fine. ooh rah!

  • June 2nd here. Scared and exited all at time. Feels good.

  • Nice view. For those who weren't there, don't let the vacant back stands deceive you -- the Rose Bowl is pretty big, and the ~5,000 spectators took up quite a bit of the front side.

That number's just a guess, though; I still haven't learned how to estimate crowd size while looking from the back row of the D&B (I'm the second tallest contrabass).

  • I think it was larger than 5,000 there. For those that haven't seen The Silent Drill Platoon, usually only one side of stands is used for the presentation so everyone gets the best view available.

And no matter 200 or 20,000, everyone can hear the single click of 24 rifles. It truly is an awe inspiring presentation. Semper Fidelis & Ooh Rah!

    Thanks for the comment.

  • The "one side" didn't work out for the afternoon performance at MCRD SD, though -- they had so many people show up that they couldn't fit everyone in the bleachers AND sitting on the ground across the front sideline, so another couple hundred were left standing ten-deep across the back.

That was insane; they really got the word out for that one. I think we were mingling with the crowd for 15 minutes afterwards.

Less than two months to go before we start playing for packed stands at 8th & I.

  • BRAVO!

  • 1st 1 to comment! I love the Marine Corps, There is none better. Hopefully Ill join the Few and Proud Someday
