  • mine is doing the same thing, and im assuming its the lash adjusters... were they hard to replace, and which brand of parts did you use

  • Mine ticks as well, and still does it when I accelerate...it's pissing me off.

  • So did you figure this out? My 99 gt makes this exact same noise. I was going to pull the valve cover this weekend and check out the lash adjusters, but you said you already did that and it didn't help. Well crap

  • Did you ever figure out what it was?

  • Did you ever figure out what it was? I have the same noise and was told to look at the springs, valve and adjusters.

  • One of my lifters was found to be sticking. The plunger eventually stuck down and allowed the rocker to pop off and lay under the valve cover. Replaced the lifter-plunger and no more noise. Very easy replacement.

  • @Skeeterparts Replaced all of the valve lash adjusters, I guess thats what your referring to as the lifter.

  • It is the SOHC, not push rods or lifters. Just the valve lash adjusters and cam followers. I changed all of the valve lash adjusters, but the noise continued.

  • my 2000 gt makes the same damn noise. it makes the noise at idle but then the second i give it a little rev it goes away for about 15 seconds then it comes back. im almost 100 percent shur its the valve lash adjusters

  • I thought the same damn thing, but after I changed them all out, the noise continued. Those things are super aggravating to change out, esp the ones towards the back. Its almost worth spending the $100 bucks on fords "special" tool. I'm not saying it isn't the adjusters in yours though.

  • @russ98stang it was my timing chain. the chain wore throught the guide and into the tensioner on both sides

  • sounds like a valve. um could be a sticky lifter. sticky valve bad valve guide bent valve stem . bad valve spring bent push rod bent rocker. I would try adjusting the lash first. im asuming its not the sohc though

  • possibly a bad rod bearing

  • i think its a lifter problem. my car is making a tickin only at idle too. i go to school for automotive classes so i'ma adjust my valves and if that doesnt work then the lifter has carbon build up

  • my stang makes that SAME noise but you cant hear mine at idle, i stil havent figured it out yet

  • ive got that same tick noise. but not as loud/bad on my 89' bird. im thinking its the rocker arm for one of the valves thats maybe a little loose. im gettin it in the garage soon tho to get it checked out. and it might be tha same for your mustang?
