Beautiful tail !, I've been noticing a lot of passage RT's with "color" in their tails. My sponsor let a beautiful ,well mannered FRT go a few years ago because the tail had a reddish/orange hue & it manned downed quick . even though it's eyes were yellow and tail was barred. since then I've seen and trapped several like that.
i too just trapped a passage juvenile bird with a reddish washed out tail. a first for me. i consulted with 3 others to make i was correct and the bird was not a hag. cheers. you still have her?
Her tail is quite red but this is a juvenile bird...she is now moulting out for the first time (its early April now). We are in North America. She is a captive bred parent reared bird though. Trained up well last fall and is a nice bird to work with. Hoods well, follows on well, rides in car well unhooded, flies hard. Bit of bating around strange approaching cars...
Oh this one did too...flat on her face....several times...funny as hell...I used to laugh when she'd get so frustrated that she'd stamp her feet up and down on her perch and rip and tug on her jesses....lol....but she got over her fears and finally made that first leap of faith...
Always cracks me up to what length a Imm. RT will go to to NOT leave that perch the first time. My first bird tried SO hard to reach out for the tid bit she fell on the ground.......a fellow falconer
My bird jumped for the first time today :) its my first bird, best feeling ever :D

Buteo jamaicensis borealis but she is a very pale one and very big (fat at 1900+g and flies at 1340+g first year).
