@brkitdwn This has nothing to do with Germany. It 's a Dutch absurd comedy show that had their own way of introducing new pop stars. Donna didn't mind 'putting up with this crap'. She very happpy that her breakthrough in holland came years before her breakthrough in the rest of the world and her appearances in this bizarre show had quite something to do with that.
@JohnBonello3 Thanks to this appearance on Dutch TV, we aboard the mv Mi Amigo were delighted when Radio mi Amigo, our Flemish daytime service, made this their 'Liebling' (Hitpick in English)..after tjhat Donna never looked back, a lovely human, glad to have met her.
@seanr456 This program (van Oekels Discocorner) could be desribed as a parody to Top of the Pops (known as Toppop here in the Netherlands) though very well known artists appeared in the show, like Donna in this video.
Another facts is that van Oekel putted Donna on the dutch charts. The Hostage was a big hit in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands she scored the most hits.
I have many memories of dancing to her music. It is really strange seeing her on a video like this, but I am happy to see how she got her start. She seems to have been so clean throughout her career, that I am glad that I had the opportunity to dance to her music. Perhaps I will meet her one day and shake her hand...

Why the song begins just in 01:25 and not at 0:00 ? this sucks but the song and the girl are SUPER BEAUTIFUL i love (i'm french so if i don't speak a good english, sorry)
Haha it's so funny, in the beginning she said GUTEN TAG to the nerd at the desk. German for good day, or hello. When she was in Holland and should have said GOEDEN DAG. But becos she lived in Germany by then she knew only German and probably assumed it would be okay.
Van Oekel is THE master of comedy, and for the people whocthinks the transalation of Van der dick is a joke, it isn't, in dutch it is: Van der Pik. And Pik is dutch for dick.
Ik vermaak me kostelijk.
Thanks for adding this to YT, I was in a discussion on "disco" and the part Europe, especially The Netherlands, has played in its discovery and mainstream popularity evolvement of it. They simply don't know Waldolala! ;-)
actually donna summer was totally unknown at the moment this show was aired. But sjef van oekels discohoek was the most innovating show at that moment on dutch television. Reeds!
This is another one of my favorite early Donna Sumer songs. I like to sing along to this one too, but only if there is no one in earshot distance. Silly, yes, but still better than many songs recorded today, such as the oh so serious, Dear. Mr. President by Pink. Go Donna; Go Away Pink.
in the omroepmuseum in Hilversum you can watch the original tape of Donna Summer's visit to Sjef van Oekel while she's singing another favourite (I belief it was Hot Stuff...)
Love it, she was so cute. I kinda wish Love To Love You never happened, because Donna and Giorgio were inevitably going to do disco anyway, and if she hadn't done Love 2 Love, she would've been using this belting voice from the start.
12-31-2011. She's full of glee 'cause The Queen of Disco is 63. Happy Birthday, Donna. And I hope that you have a Happy Rockin' New Year.

Because this scene is part of a comedy show that pretended to be a Top of the Pops like show, but the artists were always disturbed and interrupted.
In this song an angry viewer calls in to complain that they don't take the artist seriously enough.
If you really want to enjoy the song , and not a comedy show, you should not watch Sjef van Oekel's shows.

It's such an amazing and underrated song, but unfortunately this annoying skit ruins it for me.
I wonder if there is a proper promo video to this song...

This performens made her famous here in Holland, on 4:34 she can't keep her laugh. I think you are taking this to serious.
Or maybee it is hard to understand the humor of it because it is a Dutch show.
At the time it was on television it was a terrible thing but now Sjef van Oekel is a cult figure. So just try to see the joke.
