  • Did you use any pedal?

  • Presence is 1 to 2, Bass 10, Middle 10, Treble 1-2. Thanks!

  • what are the remainder of your settings if you dont mind sharing that?(treble, mid, and bass)?

  • Some great playing and absolutely beautiful brown tone. Got your own mojo going there. . .

  • love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • seriously im blown by this one

  • ok maybe henrix meets halen

  • thought it had a touch of hendrixy sound in very very beginning

  • sounds damn sweet, in the beginning thought i was at a 70's concert (more like 60's)!

  • Reminds me of Ted Nugent!

  • Got me to Sub, awesome! Add a drummer and you'll have it goin on bro!

  • Tasty playing and killer tone!

  • @MrWilly2204 Thanks so much - I appreciate it!

  • Very nice playing! Nice tones!

  • @SuperWeaponR Thank you!

  • 3 people are Bieber fans!

  • @CoffeeDrinker71 Damn - I know huh, THANKS for checking it out!

  • @longotown Well thanks for posting such a great video. The tone is simply amazing. Because of this video I've been checking out Plexi's. I've got a Peavey JSX and seriously considering a change. Thanks man...and keep rockin!

  • thanks...sorry, I should have read the comments/responses firsst. Both your modded Marshalls sound fantastic; beautiful clean tone on the Jose 100 watter as well. This doesn't sound like typical 2.7k/.68 cascade with Jose Master; it's smoother and I don't hear diode clipping at all...zeners on the master maybe. I'd love to know what's going on in that amp...lol. Thanks for posting.

  • @thumbsmagee No problem - THANK YOU for the nice comments. Maybe if I were playing the Jose in the more driven mode through the "hot" channel as he labeled it, it might sound more charactaristic of what you are mentioning. You have much greater understanding of the mod than I do, but it does sound quite nice to me now. It took me a long time to get that amp figured out.

  • Who modded this if you don't mind me asking...Jose?

  • @thumbsmagee No its not, I do have a Jose Modded 100w plexi which is also posted - This was modded in San Francisco back in the early 80's. A place called Magic Music.

  • Wow! I've heard some Jose modded Marshalls that were ho-hum, but this is fantastic! This is probably the best modded Marshall tone I've ever heard. Thank you for sharing this.

  • dude...tone is unreal here. can you let me know where you got this amp modded so i can do the same?

  • Beautiful tone!

  • 3 people prefer banjos

  • man siet das der ein bischien am Amp gefummelt hat!

  • epic tone. nice work

  • Great playing...nice and warm tone too...

  • Never get tired of this.

  • @paultrombetta Thanks buddy, and I need to my paws on your new pedals!!! I want the Kush, and the mini bone - or whatever fuzz you think is best - maybe around Christmas time if that works for you.....!

  • @longotown Great tone! Luv it very much! Respect!

  • @masternippleblaster Thanks very much - Merry Christmas!

  • @longotown Merry Christmas 2U2!

  • very accurate EVH tone, and playing style...

  • @keithbrandywine Thanks for listening!

  • I had it done about 1983 or so and think is was a couple hundred at that time, best guess.....?

  • how much does that mod cost?

  • Little Scott Henderson goin on there

  • @FriggnDiggn Just checked him out, he has great blues tone and - he is KILLER.....so THANKS !

  • @longotown man for never hearing him, you two have a lot in common style wise. If youre really thankful for me turning you on to him, you can repay me with that amp! :) Make sure you hear Dolemite. Not sure what album thats on, but the whole album is hot.

  • @FriggnDiggn He is just great soul and tone - thanks so much for leading me to that!!! This amp sat in my detached garage for 16 years collecting spider webs and gopher piss, but i think helped...HA. But the funny thing is that my buddies are all over me for this thing......I gotta line of takers, but none em said - " hey check this dude Scott out"! Thanks again - i will dig into his stuff much more deeply. Shit, I just found out Gary Moore left us, thats how out of it I am!

  • @longotown Wow that is kinda out of it lol. Hes been a huge inspiration to me for years, and just recently I heard his " I had a dream" song. Cant stop listening to it.

  • @longotown Just checked out "Well to The Bone" holy shit...........Thanks so much for turning me on to him. That is the beauty of this kind of thing......you get great input from cool people. THANK YOU!

  • great playing, you have good tone in your fingers man..

  • @takeuchitb007 Thanks alot - and I agree - tone starts in the hands! THANK YOU! & a nice amp doesnt hurt! LOL

  • damn, that is a great tone!!!

  • @xntrickk Thanks very much!

  • @xntrickk what you said!

  • If I get this straight: no effectpedals used, only the pure Marshall sound and a guitar? nice nice nice

  • @bertosas I run an EQ and Delay into the loop......you can hear the delay in the intro and when I hit the picikup toggle switch - The EQ is running a huge boost to the lows and cutting the highs.....!

  • wow great spank..is that a polarity switch next to on button? and the knob on the input jack?? whats that.?.KILLER..

  • @gtrgyro420 THANKS!!!! ya that is the polarity switch, and the other knob is a push pull that adds a gain stage and very much adjusts tone as well. Thanks again.....

  • Great tone!! Lovin' the Paul into the Marshall sound. Makes me wish I got a Les Paul instead of an ES-359!

  • Sounds fantastic, love it!!!!!!

  • @bigeddie38 Thanks very much! Dude I dig you tube light.....

  • Killer tone man

  • @adamofathens Thanks - glad you liked it.

  • Pure Gold. <3

Love the riff mate! That gorgeous tone just hits me everytime

  • @DaveCallaghan24 Thanks so very much - totally appreciate it !!!!!!!

  • Pure Gold. <3

Love the riff mate! That gorgeous to

  • Sounds great. Too bad I just sold my power shot did not know it recorded video so well...well with help of you!

  • Wow...that is killer. Where in SF was this modded? i live here and would like a recommendation if you can spare the time. thanks.

  • Rock and Roll is a feeling...

  • Wow, now thats the kind of playing that dreams are made of........You got CLASS and a real ear for what it needs to sound like...I'm building a marshall clone now with CSA Marshall/Drake transformers I hope it sound like yours!!!!!! All the best, enjoyed your music......

  • @wildhogdog I need to get a check in the mail to you for the very supprtive and nice comment (LOL). Sometimes the youtube community can be very upbeat and positive and your are exactly that!!!! THANKS! I cant wait to hear your amp - please send me the link or notify me when you are able to post - All the best & THANKS AGAIN!

  • Thats funny - I was just thinking about picking up a Metroamp JTM style. I want a combo with a 1 of 2x12 extensioin cab - NO MORE lugging stacks around. Back is toasted.......HA

  • Very nice !!!!!

  • @123rainbowbeard THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Loving the sound of this Marshall! You say it was modded in the 80's, I'd love to know more about the specifics of the mod. Have you ever shared any photos of the board?

  • @odgeUK THANKS ..... I have no specifics on the mod - and really dont have that info???? I just retube and that type of thing.....Thanks for you comment.

  • @longotown I spend a lot of time over at the Metroamp forum where the guys there are super experts at anything Marshall related. I know it's a lot to ask, but if you could pull the Chassis sometime (only 4 screws) and take a few good quality pics of the circuit then I'd love to post them over there so the mod can be dissected and understood. I'm really interested in what's going on in this amp.

  • amazing tone.

  • @espltdguitarlover THanks very much! glad you liked it.....

  • i love jmp's my buddy has a 2x12 combo jmp and its loud as fuck

  • @gringo699c Funny you say that......I knda want to mount this chassis in a 1x12 or 2x12 so I knw wheel it into jam settings - I would of course keep the box it is in so if I do my Rock stuff I can still run stacks.....I dig this amp too, THANKS!

  • Holy F#$%... that's sex in a box!! Hands down, the best Marshall I've ever heard. I'd be interested to know what mod you had done . Perfect amount of gain. So many other amps that have the "Brown sound" mod are just too hot for my liking. That clean tone is heaven!!

Do all JMPs, JTMs, Plexi's clean up like that? I could care less about the brown sound of that amp. I want that clean tone!!

  • @tele2000 THANKS SO VERY MUCH.....we have the same taste in clean tone. For the clean tone I had the guitar volume on like 2 or 3 ish....both pickups on a 70's les paul - stock. I consider the clean tone brown as well just because it is not loaded with shrill and top end. The guitar aids in alot of that too. I dont know the mod but it was done at Magic Music in S.F. in the 80's. I think the guys name was Dave? It has a fat sort of knob whcih is on the right, it is run at about 70% Fat. THX

  • @longotown --- you're right about the clean tone "Brown Sound"... never really thought of it like that. It has just enough gain and clean. I can't get over the deep, almost hollow tube sound. Absolutely amazing! When you hang on a note and use vibrato... that's the shit!!

  • @tele2000 Thanks Agian - we must share a pair of ears / or very much have the same taste. I was aiming for exactly what you described "hollow Glassy Tube Sound" and it took some work!!! I wanted a holllow glassy celan sound, and a warm rich tube grind on the overdriven tone with clear articulation if possible.

THANKS AGAIN I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

  • Great tone. I wish I could get my hand on an amp like this one.

I don't see any demo of your Peavey Classic 30. Is it that bad ? Can it sound like a Marshall ?

  • @marcanb28 Thanks for the kind words.......& I actually dig the classic 30, it sounds great for what it is. A freind recommended the Red Fang eminence speaker for the classic 30 and it souds very warm and chimey. Most people that own the Peavey are happy with it. But you are correct I need to post something with that amp so you can hear it. It is more versatile than many amps because it has such nice clean and overdriven tones. I will post soon......& thanks again for the nice comment.

  • THAT is a guitar sound!

  • @headlesssoldier THANK YOU! I appreciate it very much, you know the time it takes to get it there......& a few cold ones never hurts.

  • whats is the amp settings man ;)

  • what strings r u using here?

  • I see a Peavey Classic 30 in there as well. Another great amp!!

  • @dmarkj22 ya I love that amp too.....I put a Red Fang Alnico in it and warmed it up big time without limiting the chime. It is an awesome practice amp, and suitable for jam type gigs in a smaller room...

  • i get this tone with my blackstar artisan 100 blasted no mods no pedals just cranked lol i love it

  • i've seen photos of evh's rig during the 80's. he was using several of these 70's era marshalls .outstanding tone. did you have a loop built in to run the delay through or a an extra gain mod done?

you're video makes me want to try one now.

  • Got a mix of Van Halen and ACDC in there... anyone else feel the same way?

  • dude. i live in SF. where/who did that mod for you? GREAT sound, man. incredible.

  • AWESOME TONE!!!

  • @Babyfaced77 Thanks for enjoying......!

  • Oh boy that sounds delicious! of course tone's all in the fingers, but from a 1x2!? Which old fender? It's really a gorgeous tone.

  • @HillBone85 THANKS - the speaker is in an old broken amp with the towel over it. The amp is a non-working Fender Montreau - it used to be my backstage warm up amp in the 80's. The speaker says "Fender Musical Insturments" with a blue label - magnet looks ceramic, but sounds very alnico to me.

  • god damn this is amazing

  • @TheMullerFan Thanks buddy - very much appreciate it!

  • Excellent brown tone and killer playing! Ignore the kid slagging you for modding a Marshall; calling a 70's JMP 2204 "vintage" is ridiculous. They're not collector's amps. If I bought one, I'd tweak it too. There's so much potential in that circuit and whoever modded your amp tuned it perfectly. Also, if he knew anything about old Marshalls, he'd know enough not to call a 4-input non-master volume JMP a 2203 or 2204.

  • @bb3383 I agree with you 100% in regards to VINTAGE, & thanks for the kind comments.

  • very nice indeed!

  • @cactification Thanks so much!

  • Thanks so very much! I appreciate it!

  • Absolutely killer tone bro.

  • Do you have a screamer in front? By the way I saw a Classic 30 below great amp just ordered my second one

  • Do you have a screamer in front?

  • @M2Nashville Thanks!!!

  • @Bluplirst Thanks for the input !!!! the kid (rbehm) needs to get a life, & another paper route as well to start saving for vintage stock amps that he has such a hard time finding??

  • @longotown I have a 70's full stack in black, and a white Full stack JMP in white. So don't compare gear. And i don't have a hard time finding gear. I have a life, I play guitar and write songs, i have a band, a full time job. I have a life.

  • I own a late 60's plexi. Ran it with the attenuator and tried the variac. Sounded Great...... But this 50 watter just did it for me, and seemed to behave better at the gigs. PS I dont care for the Boogie - not enough MARSHALL PUNCH, and they a bit thinner and compressed, not for me dude.

  • Why would you mod a vintage Marshall? Not to be an ass, but if you want a master volume amp...BUY and master volume amp. These amps are meant to be loud and stock. There just better that way. Your amp sounds great, but not worth making a modification for a vintage Marshall.

  • @rbehm First of all - I bought the amp new and modded a few years after. Second of all, if you knew about these amps you would know it came stock from Marshall with a Master Volume - I simply wanted a warmer more saturated tone for my style. Third of all - IF they sold one at the time that sounded the way I wanted it to, I would have bought them. The tone from this amp could not be purchased off the shelf at the time.

My amps are meant to be however "I" want them to be. THX

  • @longotown I do know about these amps, i have a 1979 Marshall JMP 2203, and a 1976 marshall JMP 2203 non master volume 4 input. These are the amps that made rock n roll sound the way it does. The amp you might like is a Mesa. I'm not the only one saying Marshalls should be stock. There's TONS of people looking for stock Marshalls and getting pissed because there being waisted. If the amp doesn't please your ears, MAYBE the amp ain't meant for you.

  • @rbehm My amps do please my ears. I listened to you play..... and I think that you think more of your opinion than I do........your all hung up on being a purist - if you want a stcok Marshall of any era you can find them. Go buy them.

  • @longotown I do buy stock marshalls. I'm glad your amp pleases your ears, because i love that my amps please my ears. Sorry if i'm sounding like im making my opinion #1 over yours, I get pickled when guys mod there Marshalls. Like I've said, your amp sounds great either way. I don't want to be a conflict towards other musicians. I apologize. You're amp sounds killer. "Keep rockin"

  • @rbehm

what the fuck is wrong with putting a MV on a NMV JMP? (which is a lead/super lead btw.......) if you are going to do this whole "buy an amp you like instead of modding a different amp" bullshit argument then really take a second and think. would you spend $1,500 to buy a whole new MV JMP head when you could mod an MV on your NMV JMP (once again lead or super lead) for like $25.

  • @longotown I know when Marshall started making plexi amps, I'm a Marshall type of guy, I know when they started to make master volume amps. If you knew anything about Marshall sounds, the sound you're looking for is a 1968 Marshall plexi 100 watt, through Greenback speakers. And run it through an ULTIMATE attenuator (or any other brand).

  • @rbehm - kid, I had tone dialed while you were still sipping off the TIT. Wise up........watchiing others dial tone and post it, doesn't make you "the" amp critic. Your a just a plain idiot if you think you know what I look for.

If you can dial what you say - then do it & post it!

  • I will post it, BTW i was 13 when i did those audio clips of me. Self taught.

  • nice tone no matter what

  • I don't think the people who post these videos' realize how much help they are on youtube. There is alot of people who buy online and have no way of testing an amp in person. These demo's are great help and are much appreciated. Thank you sir.

  • I would say not quite gainy enough to be dubbed brown sound. Absolutely great tone though

  • @evh23 I totally agree with you - and there is plenty of gain left in the head. I will do another vid with the gain the way I used to play it - much more saturated and nasty.

I have been playing more blues lately and I was just trying to incorporate a cleaner tone that is more "socially acceptable" in the blues clubs. It is a cleaner version of my rock tone. Thanks again - great ear!!!!

  • Great tone man.

  • @Gerazini Thanks so much....

  • Absolutely awesome tone!*****

  • @5150RDH Thanks so much!! everyone that has ever tried to nail a certain tone knows the endless hours that it takes......! So Thank you very much.

  • That sounds awesome! Could you please detail the mod, or tell us who the modder is? Thanks.

  • @erigm THANKS ! I have had the amp forever and had it modified in the early 80's in SF CA - a place called Magic Music...dont recall the tech - think it was DAVID?

Added additional drive / push pull gain switch to fatten it up and an effects loop. I run an EQ kinda hot in the loop to push it abit harder. Thanks again

  • That sounds really nice! Great playing too...

  • @plaidman67 Thanks very much!!!

  • @longotown r u using delay in front of amp?

  • @theShowStopper321 I do run an old digitech delay through the loop. I think it is warmer and this amp does not like effects hitting the front end? I run an EQ and delay in the loop - just a bit of slap and heavy boost to the low end with the EQ.

Amp is set with treble=0, and presence nearly on 2. Bass is on 10 & mids are on 7

  • i like it!

  • Sweet sound

  • @msgscout007 Thanks alot!

  • I love it man.

  • @partlyshady THANKS SO MUCH!!!! i appreciate it!
