  • Absolute perfection

  • Heer,ontferm U over ons

Wij raken malkander in deez Wereld kwijt

Wat er van de liefde rest

    blijkt een zak ellende

    En een hoop narigheid

  • We have 22 monsters that have no clue about real music..

  • This is the only piece of music that always makes me cry.

  • Where is their soul?: 21 people dislike the piece ;-).

I love this piece of Mattheus Passion :-)

  • Sorry to all, but I mean Magdalena Kožená is much better in this piece. Listen version performed by her.

  • absolutely lovely!

  • Really, I think this is one of the best performances of this divine cantata... The voice and the soulful violin, having their own goal and aspiration, intertwine in a melodious incantation ...

    Thanks Bach... Soli Deo Gloria!

  • ...and to think that this piece was the one with which she did her debut in her carrer...

  • Any idea if or where one could get hold of recordings of this?

  • passion for Baroque lives on... an absolute beauty:) tnx

  • meravigliosa

  • Einfach nur himmlisch schön. Diese Reinheit, Anmut und Spiritualität der Bach'schen Musik ist ein Fenster zum Paradies.

  • @achim56nrw find ich auch :D total geiles lied :)

  • is it just me or does she look like sigourney weaver.

  • It s just incredible how she sings and he plays... Thank you very much for this great music!

  • I listen to this and feel as if I am in a trance as well..........passion beyond measure.

  • Absolute beauty.

  • grande, commovente.....bravissima Julia e il primo viollino !!!!

  • how could anybody ever possibly dislike this video?? This is such an incredible performance, I have not stopped listening to it since I found out about this woman. My most prominent influence as a singer in training.

  • @birdinthewind1 you would dislike this if you have some exposure to people like Andreas Scholl, John Eliot Gardiner, or real baroque music in general

  • @pyrrooo I have full exposure to 'people like Andreas Scholl and John Eliot Gardiner'. I actually enjoy very much their music and their interpretations.

But I' m sick of this wave of 'real baroque-know it all' fans out there. I have news for you. NOBODY knows how they played baroque music back in 1600. The 'real baroque' is just a point of view. It wouldn't even exist if people like Karl Richer and Julia Hamari didn't create this.

  • @vasrach Just because YOU don't doesn't mean WE don't. How many treatises have you read and how many manuscripts have you seen? have you ever played on original instruments? If not, then you are in no place to say "nobody knows how they played baroque music back in 1600". True, we don't have a sound recording, but we have all the other sources of information. Please realize that your own ignorance does not apply to the rest of the world.

  • @pyrrooo Music is not a sum of original instruments and manuscripts. Music above all is about feeling, interpretation, understanding of what the composer wants to say and connection between the player and the listener. The way you responded bringing on only the technical aspects of music actually makes my point. I'm sorry for you if you can't appreciate the beauty of the above video. You miss way too much.

  • @pyrrooo And who, exactly, is WE?! I studied organ with the protege of the premier Bach organ scholar in the world, and SHE said the work instructs, it does not inform. You must be young...only a very young person would presume to know the unknowable. I'm with @pyroo...it's sad that you can't appreciate the supreme artistry of this recording. Just stick with what you "know" and let the rest of us enjoy Julia Hamari's work.

  • @rosinlr What wise words. Wise words, and true. 'Only a very young person would presume to know the unknowable'. And what a piece of music! Beyond words.

  • @pyrrooo I have, in fact, had exposure to 'real baroque music in general', you clearly haven't if the only people you manage to pull out of that category are Andreas Scholl and John Eliot Gardiner.

Her singing is sublime. There cannot be any question about that.

  • @pyrrooo Also, by the look of your page it would seem you are not a fan of Richter's work, stop forcing your opinions on people.

  • Amazing, still think this is the best one I have ever heard

Can anybody tell me how to get the CD or DVD of this performance?

  • Was this the debut of Julia Hamari?. I know the Julia's debut was performing the matthaws passion with Richter as conductor in 1966. Is this that work?

  • @julianrns I don't think so. In another video from the same recording it says that it is from 1971.

  • The violin sings with her and says: "have mercy on me, my God"

  • Wonderful!

  • I'll be Bach

  • Sublime...

  • Adembenemend - breathtaking

  • Qué bella interpretación. It´s Wonderfull

  • This is the most beautiful Bach creation I have listened to since JSB came into my life in 1951 during the St.Matheus performance in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Most solits singing this aria are inspired by the sublime musical balance between voice and instrument of this work, that they usually reach the optimum of their ability.

  • I'm crying...

  • Kaziu! To Kaziu gra na skrzypczykach!!!

  • (Erbarme dich, mein Gott, Um meiner Zähren willen; Schaue hier, Herz und Auge Weint vor dir bitterlich. Erbarme dich!.)

  • For me, this piece will forever be linked to Tarkovsky's "The Sacrifice".

  • @henrids Agreed. But in "The Sacrifice" was used performance of 1969 year, conductor - Wolfgang Gonnenwein (with Julia Hamari too).

  • @Quatarsys thanks for the info =)

  • @henrids always glad to help =^_^=

  • @henrids and I always think of Pier Paolo Pasolini with deep love, gratitude, tenderness and empathy when I listen to his.

  • @henrids also in Stalker he uses it, in the scene where the "author" decides to walk straight to the room he whistles it.

  • ¡Qué hermoso!

  • Oh Lord, this orchestra sucks at playing Baroque music! Baroque orchestra please!

  • Otto Buechner is very good as well.

  • magnificant kathartic music that affect one into tears

    time stillstand

perfect intonation minds and souls smelt into one

  • When her eyes look down at 1:27 :)

  • @elarab13 who voted against stupid I can not understand at this masterpiece?

  • one of the best sad music it catch you in stomach..

  • OMG I don't know if she sings better than she scares me or otherwies!

  • amazing

  • One of the best arias in the history of music and one of it's best inerpretations.

    Thank you very much!

  • this masterpiece carries me far far away. it penetrates into your skin, and talks to your soul. bach is god.

  • What a great violinist and what a beutiful voice and interpretation. Thank you for sharing!

  • is it me or what? It's the fourth time I listen to... and I'm going to do it again..

even if you absently hear it, it enters deeply inside you and reach your soul without asking permission....

  • Julia should be saving this style for opera. Sing with a clearer tone and less vibrato, please.

  • She makes you cry. There are no words for this.

  • Everything about this performance is sheer perfection; there are no words.

  • @jmkroczek who cares

  • @jmkroczek The Baroque era was one of the most passionate, expressive eras in history; have you looked at the architecture, read the plays and literature, seen the art of that era? HAve you noted the sharp dissonances used in Baroque music? There can be no human vocal expression without vibrato; composers indicated 'senza vibrato' when they wanted a dead, cold, expressionless effect! You early music specialists make me sick; you have no blood in your veins!

  • @billyguns2 Which plays?

  • @geraldvanwilgen Fpr heaven's sake, do a Google search for FAMOUS BAROQUE THEATRE PLAYS; do your own research. and you might appreciate what you learn more than taking other people's word for everything; do you believe everything people tell you or what you hear on TV? I'll give you one answer" HAMLET by William Shakespeare is one of the most famous Baroque era plays.

  • @billyguns2 Thank you for enlightening me. I in tears with gratitude, someone actually took the trouble responding to my simple question! And Shakespeare baroque! Who would have known, those English were so with it so early, I almost feel bad not having any English blood running through my veins.

  • @billyguns2 I was talking about the violins :) of course senza vibrato would be wrong aswell, no need to react in a sharp way like that. I study music and recently played and sang this piece three times, so.. plus, I never said I'm a specialist, you said that ;) best wishes.

  • @billyguns2 ps. that's a well played example. /watch?v=0WLedpz9a40

  • @billyguns2 Sharp dissonances get weakened in their effect when you put a wobble on them. By the way, Julia Hamari is the teacher of Dorothee Mields, one of the "early music specialists" which "make you sick" (you can hear that from her immaculate legato, her tasteful soft high notes, phrasing and other qualities most modern opera singers are lacking). And of course no baroque composer used the expression "senza vibrato". This is a 20th century invention.

  • @jmkroczek

I completely agree with you. She's treating this as a 100% solo. It isn't, it's a duet with the violin, only you wouldn't know it by listening to this recording.

  • Is there a more beautiful piece? I don't think so.

  • God really exist

  • @MrJotemwu God exist above all, and He can show Itself from everything He want...really sure!!!

  • Erbarme dich- does that translate to Have mercy with me?

  • @gonrolgonrol

Yes, it is the meaning of the words sung by her.

  • @mgpoliveira Thanks :)

  • @gonrolgonrol Have mercy on me

  • @rojack65 Thank you! :)

I hope you have mercy on me for the bad translation ;D

  • @gonrolgonrol Have mercy my lord, my got for these tears I weep. One of the greatest arias ever

  • Very nice.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Whenever someone attempts to reduce humans to the status of animals (though there are plenty of them that deserve that status), my retort is not to pay heed to industrialization, electronics, and not even religion; but rather, aside from science and philosophy, artists such as Bach. Truly a great example of the unparalleled essence that is the potential of the human mind and spirit. Not to mention the passion and technical expertise of those that recreate his work.

  • @mburke000 How is that evidence for the human spirit?

  • @Dominicwashere spare me. i said spirit, not soul; spirit in the sense of the essence of human beings as opposed to the heavily instinctual nature of animals. i wasn't trying to "prove" anything anyways., as you seemed to suggest.

  • @mburke000 I wasn't trying to attack you... I was just interested in your opinion. And you're right, I did mistake spirit for soul because Bach was very religious himself... But you should know that human beings also have a heavily instincual nature, we just don't have to use these insticts since we live in this particular society (no need for a wider explanation;) ) but when we have to survive in the wild our instincts will take over..... (although maybe not in your case xD)

  • i like this piece

  • I am delighted to have found this marvelous rendering. Both violin and voice, to say nothing of the supporting players, are superb-- so beautifully controlled. We were taught to treasure Bach at school and no music can outdo this touching accompaniment to the story of the passion of Jesus, the Messiah. May the whole world be drawn to listen to such an affecting example of the expressiveness of the human spirit.

  • As many times as I have heard this aria sung by both men and women, nothing ever seems to compare in emotion, richness and "passion" as this version sung by Julia Hamari. Thank you. Your upload is the clearest on YouTube.

  • I would weep each time I heart this section.

  • Keel dicht, tranen onderweg. Prachtig

  • The best that Bach ever wrote

  • Het Allemooiste wat Bach geschreven heeft

Ik zet mij in tranen neder

Heer kom mij nu maar halen

    U beveel ik mijn geest

  • God, the ARIAS in this work....

  • Andreas Scholl is flawless, amazingly perfect and passionate but this masterpiece is written for Julia ... sorry Andreas

  • @courageousindeed Hamari magnificent performance, and excellent version of Andreas. Both are great in this wonderful Bach´s work.

  • How can anyone dislike this?? This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

  • @imgbebi And at the same time it is so sad. St Peter has just heard the cock crow and he's in tears.

  • @mgpoliveira I whant a life out of this world, I do it every days listening her...

  • @bravomarco64

    God exists.

  • I don't know if God exists, but I know that Bach has existed, and thank him

  • I don't know if God exists, but I know that Bach has existed, and thank him

  • I don't know if God exists, but I know that Bach has existed, and thank him

  • @mgpoliveira I don't know if God exists, but I know that Bach has existed, and thank him

  • Bach exists

  • @Hamburgerphil ....sure Bach exist...sure...but Bach was inspired by God, so, my inspiration is to say "God exist" b...why no?

  • @mgpoliveira lame comment

  • @mgpoliveira yes, I exsist now bugger of sheep

  • @bravomarco64 yes, God exists, and Bach wrote this tu US - FOR EVERY DAY

  • @bravomarco64 It's the best of Bach. Bach's last will and testament.

  • Nice. Great Bach. But the best version I've ever heard is Nicholas Spanos's. That is just otherworldly...

  • @tamerlano236 It's beyond me how you can even compare the two...You have spammed every recording of "erbarme dich" on YT with your advertising of this Spanos recording, which is clearly amateurish. I mean, PLEASE

  • Right after denying Jesus for the third time, as was foretold. Weep all you want, but you blew it, Peter.

    Beautiful music, though.

  • 674 people have reached heaven

    11 people are deaf

  • I think German in the only language that could express those deep feelings. Modern Latin languages are quite superficial because they are naturally very melodious. German, just as Latin, goes deep into your soul.

  • @Vlaanderson Someone should have warned Dante, Cervantes, Racine that by using neolatin idioms they were condemned to frivolity and superficiality.... and "Das Fledermaus" or "Die Forelle" are clearly deep, sorrowful works...

  • @Vlaanderson

every language when spoken from the heart goes deeply into the soul.

  • @Vlaanderson I'm Italian but your opinion is right....

  • @Vlaanderson Indeed. And this is the most beautiful music i've heard in my life-

  • @Vlaanderson ya never know

  • C'est tellement vrai

  • @Vlaanderson - I don't thing so.

  • pure magic

  • Maravillosa...

    gracias..

  • Sa bukur. Asht muzike hyjnore. Mrekulli!

  • It's just like listening St. Peter crying. Somehow you start crying with him

  • I love her so much.......La amo !!!!!!!!!!!!!

ME HACE PEDAZOS !!!

  • Incredible! So moving!!!

  • Is it just me, or is Julia a bit overpowering? I want to hear more of the first violin and orchestra.

  • Sublime. I love this piece.

  • A PERFECT PERFORMANCE OF THE LADY..THANKS YOU..SO INTENSE SPIRITUAL..

ME LATE Y DAN GANAS DE LLORAR

  • @rebeccaarman

There are musical composers with varying abilities but Bach was one of the best because he trained and worked hard throughout his entire life. He was exceptional, talented and dedicated to his work more than most. Someone must be the best. But to then credit the achievement to a god is quite primitive and a slap in the face to Bach. This is 2010. When it rains, we no longer give praise to the rain-gods for working their heavenly magic.

  • @diego2k10 Read about Felix Mendelssohn. He worked on reviving some of Bach's work, and I believe this piece was one of them. He had the sensitivity to carry that off.

  • LA MUEVE EL GAFAS !

  • The kind of beauty that has the ability to bring my eyes to tears.

  • how beautiful

  • God, this is beautiful. The violinist alone, is sublime, as is Julia. By far, my most favorite piece of music in the world. 500 Stars.

  • This and Purcell's "When I am laid in earth..." always make me cry! The power of music can be magic!

  • this is perfect

  • It is a pity that,in those times, Bach was played by violinist with so much vibrato.

    Beautifull interpretation nevertheless
