On the other hand you knock over 10 people some of them will be in excrutiating spinal pain, head injuries,etc. also one of the ten could inadvertandly end up on top of the baby maiming it.
your missing the point. they're superheroes. they're good guys. they always pick option 3, not the crappy first two options. these guys rule, one of my favorite scenes from the whole series xD
He should have asked the burning building question. If five strangers are trapped in a burning building, would you rescue them or attempt to save a baby who is trapped elsewhere? The building will collapse or something before you can save them all. That would have been SO much easier.
Well I would think it would be unrealistic to try and save 5 people in a burning building all by your self you would probably get yourself trapped and killed and would be of no use to saving those people. Best bet is to call the fire brigade and what do you mean by a baby who is trapped elsewhere? Do you mean outside of the building?

Simple: Flip the switch to save the ten people AND the baby. There is enough space under the train for it to pass over the baby.
Alternate solution: Flip the switch right when the train is at the intersection and derail it. Again, both baby and people saved.
