It's so annoying to see this approach to drinking problems, you can't stop an alcoholic by taking away his cheap drinks - alcoholics are resourceful and defiant and it drives them into a deeper determination to drink...Sorry but what we need is an extension of the mental health act in which relatives can force a family member into rehab for their own good. As for young drinkers, we need worthwhile programmes to occupy them; ie things they WANT to do, not what we think's best.

What is going on various governments have been trying to say that cannabis is bad? yet comparatively it is safer that caffeine, according to Dr J Henningfields research in 1996, so please lets get this in perspective and not use propaganda in this debate.

Here is what you first need to do Mr Cameron....

Stop the sale of alcohol in anywhere other than pubs/clubs/restaurants/festiva­ls/gigs.

Also only allow the sale of alcohol via good old off-licenses. Supermarkets and cornershops/spars, sell to underage children all the time. The sale of alcohol in petrol stations is idiocy!!

Reduce the licensing hours back to what they were and no establishment should be allowed to sell alcohol before 4pm or after 1am!.

The problem with pot is that in many people, it creates pyschotic symptoms and long-term use can lead to schitzophrenia which can make people extremley violent. Cannabis-related schitzophrenia has been connected with a number of murders of the years.

There's nothing wrong with alcohol drunk in moderation, it's just when teenage kids drink to excess, kick off and vandalise their local communities. The fundamental problem is a lack of things for young people to do.

There is no PROVEN causal link between cannabis and psychosis. Leeds Keele University's study showed an actual decline inthe amount of cases of schizophrenia through the periods when cannabis was class C, which totally goes against what the government believed happened. Not to mention that they also took the ACMD's information, twisted it to suit themselves.

I like the suggestions. Although I would take further steps, such as forcing reviews of licenses given by going around the area (say every quarter for the first year) to see if people have found a radical decline in street safety or the cleanliness of the street. This is because often many people do not appeal the decisions once they are given. So by checking on areas (just once every so often), you get a true image of how the community feels, and react in policing and licensing terms.

However, alongside this there must be more police officers on earlier hours and I don't just mean on patrol cars, on foot. Also, there should be a fair spread of where these police officers are placed and not just the areas where there is most cause for concern.
