To all the people who keep banging on about 'photo ID blah blah, not fair blah blah'....take it from someone who actually knows a fair amount of muslim people....I've never met anyone, muslim or otherwise, who refusd to show their face when required to for identification purposes. Im not saying the woman behaved appropriately, from all accounts she didn't. But banning the burqa because of this would be like banning all P platers from driving....
Your argument at 5:19 is why they need the law. There A LOT of idiots in Sydney that claim their backgrounds (don't call me bigoted I'm greek in a VERY aussie area and some greeks do the same) to get away with shit. The only reason the cop didn't get more shit offically is BECAUSE it was on camera. Also it doesn't matter what the islamic council will say because idiots being idiots think they have rights that no one else does
Also if it wasn't her who filed the complaint why didn't she just say so during the first courtcase and not just the appeal? It was her! She got on a technicality because the police at the station were trying to be a little to PC (also idiots but well meaning)
@VanyelK You are full of shit and making that up. Literally making it up. You have NO evidence for that whatsoever. None. Why the fuck would I waste my time with you?
I don't care if they wear it at home, out in public or wherever they want.
but i do believe that they should abide by the same rules we have to abide by.
If this means a law had to be passed to force them to reveal there face to be identified so be it.
I believe that since we have to remove helmets, sunglasses or any face covering we choose to wear inside banks or any other place the requires it, so should they.
biggest argument here is security who knows what or who is under those coverings
@AngryAussie please note the words "IF THIS MEANS" i wasn't say it had to be passed i was saying basically to late, but at least now they have to reveal themselves instead of using they religion to hide.
yes i am aware that nowhere in the koran does it state it's religious, it is a choice and yes people choose to wear it, but i don't believe LAW or not that any person has the right to hide there identity if it's being requested by authorities
@IEVLV8 The idea that a new law is required because of ONE incident with ONE fucking moron is ridiculous. It's a knee jerk reaction pandering to the lowest racism and bigotry and it's completely unnecessary.
This seems to be a case of idiots arguing with idiots. I say throw them in a pit and have them settle this with a fight to the death thus increasing the I.Q of the gene pool.
I was having a conversation with one of my uncles who's a cop, and he thinks that both sides are stupid. They don't need laws to force people to take the headgear off, and people don't need to insist on keeping them on.
Someone should start a trend where people wear clown masks/Nixon masks/Big nose & glasses (you get the point) everywhere.....but especially when being breath tested, or going through airports etc. Then refuse to take it off because of their personal beliefs. The group could be called the "TISM-ites" or something like that.
This is going to sound somewhat racist (what a generic beginning to a sentence, right up there with "I'm not a racist, but..."), anyway, I do wish that the Burka was outlawed because to me it's a symbol of sexism and old beliefs. Not to mention the security "problems".
Damn, I sound like an ignorant fucking racist fucker...
It is a stupid law that didn't need to be created. A perfect example of everyone jumping up and down on an issue that clearly does not need this much attention at all.
All it does is give bogans their time in the spotlight to have their bitch about the full face veil and throw in a few anti muslim/immigration lines in as well.
Just like the swearing fines in Victoria at the moment.
We are paying these politicians to come up with this shit?!!
One of the major problems when dealing with subjects such as race, religion, sexual orientation etc. Is that for the most part people are clueless about the subject, do not research it. They just repeat some nonsense, they heard someone else say, as if it was fact. Also people, will not talk about it, incase they come of as being rascist etc... Even if you make a valid point that is critical of a group, you will be called anti-x, or racist.
My take on the law is, fair is fair. If a motor cyclist walks into a bank with his full face helmet on, he or she (for that matter) is expected to remove it. Why should the Muslim woman get treated differently. How is the officer supposed to know if the woman is who she says she is if the officer in unable to see if the photo matches? With that said, the matter clearly has been blown out of proportion by dick heads. Clearly too much bullshit surrounding the entire Muslim thing.
@TheMrbum There was a case of a UK reporter wandering around wearing the burkah for a story. There have also been male robbers, wearing burkahs to prevent them from being identified.
@kiwicanuck1973 I am aware of those things, partly the reason for my comment in fact. I think any person who hides their face should be treated the same way regardless of which movement, following, race etc. they are from. They should show who they are in certain circumstances. With that said, as far as I know, if a biker is speaking with an officer, he/she is not necessarily required to remove the helmet, I think that should be considered the same way as the burkah.
@AngryAussie I think your right, I didn't word my comment well. I meant to say, and should have said, The woman in question should not be treated any different from a motorcyclist. Unless she is breaking the law, she should not be treated as such. As for the mentioned Robber and the reporter, I am aware of the stories but until reading your reply comment, was not informed on their legitimacy.
@blueman4444444 One of the great things about countries such as Australia is multicultralism and having its own unique identity. @AngryAussie It maybe stupid, but i saw a poll where 90% of people support it. Then i asked a few friends who are around there and they are like, we don't need their culture, they come into ours. or something like that i cant remember.
Thing is though, this could all be avoided if people could just help each other out without jumping the gun. Stores have signs that says you cant wear things that covers your face just in case, which includes hats and glasses, veils, masks, and other such items. But really, it really is such a small issues that it should be a private matter between its citizens, making laws over silly things really DO just muck things up.

Way to many muslims make a big fuss out of nothing, and they need to learn they are not exempt from the law
At the end of the day, she was an idiot for making a big deal out of nothing, The Media (as always) are fucking idiots blowing it out of proportion and the politicians (again as always) for bending to the will of the media to make everyone happy.
You know what? If she had just raised her veil in the first place we could have escaped this whole fucking fiasco.
Muslim not muslim I don't give a fuck, respect the laws and the people enforcing them (when necessary) and everyone is much happier.
@Cliffjumper24 I'd imagine their visibility would be no worse than someone in a full face helmet, although I wouldn't really know what wearing a veil is like.
What a farce, I'm 99% sure they can require a woman to remove her burqa (or any other clothing) in a police station in any state, so it's just a matter of getting ID so the cops can enforce minor matters like traffic violations. Traffic violations are mostly needed to raise revenue, so it's just a money thing.
@Harun3039 Rapes have gone over the sky limit, i actually live in the city with most muslims in sweden, and what'd you know? We are the fucking rape capital in europe! Here people have been raped in mc donalds, and even in THE FUCKING LIBRARY? AND would you be surprised to hear that they were muslims?
A long friend of mine got raped at the fields not far from my house, the guy that raped her didn't see anything wrong in it, and felt that he was wrongfully convicted, even protests broke out.
@Harun3039 They over use their religious card. They've got a licence to kill here, pretty much. A family invited a boy over because their daughter was seeing him. And they threw hot boiling water over him and stabbed him to death. CAUSE HE WASNT "RIGHT" FOR THEIR DAUGHTER?! He was a muslim too ffs!
A friend of mine accidently, and i mean accidently took of a burqe on a girl in school whilst they were fighting. 30 minutes later her family was there with weapons ready to kill her.
All I can say, my friend, is "Fair fucking call". :)
I personally don't really care too much, simply because it doesn't really affect me personally. The people who say "Damn the Muslims" and other bull like that, are simply paranoid little children who are scared of a change.
Australia, to my understanding, is a bloody MULTI-cultural country. Therefore, and its pretty fuckin' simply put, that their culture isn't just over in Islam or wherever, but it's also here.
@phsycokilla43 And don't get me wrong. Muslim women, along with every other man women and child, are to, by Law, identify themselves if a Police Officer requests it.
Like, seriously. If someone from say, a Greek or something background started chucking a hissy-fit saying a police officer called them a 'wog', no one would really give two shits about it.
Well, anyways. That's my view on the whole topic. "Damn the Muslims" people are children who can't get their own way.....
While I agree with that your saying how there doesn't need to be a law about it, its hard to think of any reasons off the tip of my head why we shouldn't have it as long as it covers other face/head coverings like large motorcycle helmets or other such things in regards to traffic incidents. However this is still ridiculous, but at the same time, not unexpected as more and more of our population becomes of the Muslim belief from overseas.
I wish we /could/ set back Muslim-community relations 20 years =)
AFAIK noone really gave a toss about Islam before the media lost its mind after the 9th of November WTC attacks.
It's kind of funny seeing these racists (who've had a free ride on the "lets bash Islam" bandwagon these last 10 years) finally getting called out as, at last, the boil comes off the anti-Muslim hysteria.
@korona3103 I fully agree. I'm a German and my grandparents Generation (including family of mine) *were* the original Nazis and for some time now in many places I find the exact same rhetoric they used against "THE JEW" being spewed out against "THE MUSLIM". Believe you me that this feels really uncomfortable...
To think that some of the grandparents of those "new bigots" died fighting Nazi Germany just adds to the sadness of it all...
@korona3103 bashing Islam isn't racist, that kills me when people are that painfully stupid Islam >ISN'T< a race now is it comes down to bashing Islam? sure count me in ill bash all other religions too its a load of shit but those that focus on Islam, or people like me that see it all as laughable aren't racist, bigots? sure call me a bigot i don't much care.
@Joshieboy11211 Anyone who uses the term Racism to defend a religion, hijacks its meaning and purpose, degrades the very value of the word, and directly insults people who have genuinely suffered from racism, which makes it all the more abhorrent every time some fool tries to defend a frankly Fascist religion in nature by claiming its racist.
@Joshieboy11211 Attacking Islam isn't racist per se, but you've got to see that the vast majority of anti-Islamic hysteria in the media has a MASSIVE racial bent to it.
@korona3103 Hey mate, the attacs werend on the 9th of november, they were on 11th of september. Americans use the at first the month and then the day. I don't know why, but they do.
@korona3103 I'd just like to say, as much as I am tired of hearing bigots blame everything on 9/11...Be sure to mention the right date please :). Just because the US says 9/11, doesn't mean the rest of the world can't call it 11/9...or to avoid pissing off stupid americans, call it 'September 11th'...Not that hard...You KNOW it's an american date format, and thus referring to September 11th, and the fact that you're purposefully ignoring hat for a 'joke' is stupid :/...
@Kaireg It was just a bit of fun. Of course everyone knows 9/11 refers to the 11th of September, but that's why it's funny.
The joke is aimed at our media hacks who copied the US media's response so verbatim and with so little critical thought that they even copied the date format.
Actually....banning all p platers from driving would probably make more sense.

The ban veil stuff is way out of control. And people always bring up the example of France banning them. That frustrates the shit out of me.

@firesotormlizard01 Let promote freedom by passing laws controlling what people can do!

I'm a 'pro choice' kind of person, so I have no problems withother culture wearing whatever they like...
Different customs and funny hats is what makes the world interesting!
However, I do have two small reservations about Muslim veils.
1: If a muslim woman is wearing one while driving, and they can only see through the letterbox hole, that's dangerous!
2: Vitamin D is released with exposure to sunlight.
Muslim women need to take vitamin suppliments if they cover up all the time.
Cliffjumper24 8 months ago
@Cliffjumper24 I'd imagine their visibility would be no worse than someone in a full face helmet, although I wouldn't really know what wearing a veil is like.
dougaholic 8 months ago
@Cliffjumper24 Glad you're concerned about their vitamin intake

What a farce, I'm 99% sure they can require a woman to remove her burqa (or any other clothing) in a police station in any state, so it's just a matter of getting ID so the cops can enforce minor matters like traffic violations. Traffic violations are mostly needed to raise revenue, so it's just a money thing.
Hynee 8 months ago
@Hynee They have always had the power to request ID, the law is pointless

I swear, I saw a comment on the Daily Mail forums that said "All those Muslims should fuck off back to India". India. A Hindu country.

No, their going to use it on everyone, they'll find a way, they always do.

A long friend of mine got raped at the fields not far from my house, the guy that raped her didn't see anything wrong in it, and felt that he was wrongfully convicted, even protests broke out.
linuz011 8 months ago
@Harun3039 They over use their religious card. They've got a licence to kill here, pretty much. A family invited a boy over because their daughter was seeing him. And they threw hot boiling water over him and stabbed him to death. CAUSE HE WASNT "RIGHT" FOR THEIR DAUGHTER?! He was a muslim too ffs!
A friend of mine accidently, and i mean accidently took of a burqe on a girl in school whilst they were fighting. 30 minutes later her family was there with weapons ready to kill her.
linuz011 8 months ago
All I can say, my friend, is "Fair fucking call". :)
I personally don't really care too much, simply because it doesn't really affect me personally. The people who say "Damn the Muslims" and other bull like that, are simply paranoid little children who are scared of a change.
Australia, to my understanding, is a bloody MULTI-cultural country. Therefore, and its pretty fuckin' simply put, that their culture isn't just over in Islam or wherever, but it's also here.
phsycokilla43 8 months ago
@phsycokilla43 And don't get me wrong. Muslim women, along with every other man women and child, are to, by Law, identify themselves if a Police Officer requests it.
Like, seriously. If someone from say, a Greek or something background started chucking a hissy-fit saying a police officer called them a 'wog', no one would really give two shits about it.
Well, anyways. That's my view on the whole topic. "Damn the Muslims" people are children who can't get their own way.....
phsycokilla43 8 months ago
@phsycokilla43 Muslim women are to, by LAW as is, identify themselves if need be; And the whole freaking topic just needs to fucking stop.
phsycokilla43 8 months ago
@phsycokilla43 And by Muslim women, I don't JUST mean Muslim women. It's everyone...

You'd be sick of muslims too if you live in Sweden. Sigh...
linuz011 8 months ago
While I agree with that your saying how there doesn't need to be a law about it, its hard to think of any reasons off the tip of my head why we shouldn't have it as long as it covers other face/head coverings like large motorcycle helmets or other such things in regards to traffic incidents. However this is still ridiculous, but at the same time, not unexpected as more and more of our population becomes of the Muslim belief from overseas.

I wish we /could/ set back Muslim-community relations 20 years =)
AFAIK noone really gave a toss about Islam before the media lost its mind after the 9th of November WTC attacks.
It's kind of funny seeing these racists (who've had a free ride on the "lets bash Islam" bandwagon these last 10 years) finally getting called out as, at last, the boil comes off the anti-Muslim hysteria.
korona3103 8 months ago 6
@korona3103 What stuns me is their shock at being called out as bigots when they are so obvious
AngryAussie 8 months ago 4

Joshieboy11211 8 months ago 9
@Joshieboy11211 Anyone who uses the term Racism to defend a religion, hijacks its meaning and purpose, degrades the very value of the word, and directly insults people who have genuinely suffered from racism, which makes it all the more abhorrent every time some fool tries to defend a frankly Fascist religion in nature by claiming its racist.
Feostru 8 months ago
@Joshieboy11211 Attacking Islam isn't racist per se, but you've got to see that the vast majority of anti-Islamic hysteria in the media has a MASSIVE racial bent to it.

@korona3103 Dumbass... 9/11 was in American dating, its September 11, not November 9
drnavyfan01 8 months ago
@drnavyfan01 don't blame him, don't expect him to know what 9/11 is if he's not American.
Arcangel2992 8 months ago
@drnavyfan01 he may not read it that way. In other countries its day then month. Despite this minute error he still brings up a solid point.
TheManMostMysterious 8 months ago
@korona3103 Hey mate, the attacs werend on the 9th of november, they were on 11th of september. Americans use the at first the month and then the day. I don't know why, but they do.
captainbackflash 8 months ago
@korona3103 I'd just like to say, as much as I am tired of hearing bigots blame everything on 9/11...Be sure to mention the right date please :). Just because the US says 9/11, doesn't mean the rest of the world can't call it 11/9...or to avoid pissing off stupid americans, call it 'September 11th'...Not that hard...You KNOW it's an american date format, and thus referring to September 11th, and the fact that you're purposefully ignoring hat for a 'joke' is stupid :/...
Kaireg 8 months ago
@Kaireg It was just a bit of fun. Of course everyone knows 9/11 refers to the 11th of September, but that's why it's funny.
The joke is aimed at our media hacks who copied the US media's response so verbatim and with so little critical thought that they even copied the date format.
korona3103 7 months ago
Well I guess they could at least be glad it's not like the french who want to ban the veil all together :P
