For awhile i was looking for it to blink with it turned off ;P. But it eventually worked when i realized it had to be done with it on. The phone was dead so i had to do it with it plugged to the wall. But i have to say this method works, thought it bit the dust for a minute. *****
it works, this is what i did, i had a green apple with small white symbol,
i was holding onto power button until it blacked out , then after that, like she said open the itune and hold on to home button then connect the iphone plug. After that
(A is a apple with little color apple symbol comes out ) after that my itune asks

although this EXACT process didnt work for me (perhaps because its a 3g?) the concept definitely did. I used your same method of waiting for it to blink, but i kept the phone plugged up before it blinked, when it blinked I held the wake/sleep button and home button (wake/sleep button first) for 10 seconds (exactly) it went black and then i let the wake/sleep button go and held the home button until my computer recognized it (about 10 more seconds).
can u help me my iphone wunt turn on i think is beacuse i wiped it and half way the bat ran out so now when i turn it on the appel logo comes up and then my iphone turns off

ok hold the home button through all these steps
1.unplug
2.hold the home button for 3 seconds
3.wile holding HOME plug the ipod back in
4.hold lock AND home at the same time for about 35 seconds

Very Simple to fix that.Heres what to do.
Hold Down Power And Home Buttons Togther For 10 second.
Then Let Go Of Power Button But Keep Hold Of Home Button For 8-10 seconds.
Then tunes will say that your Iphone/Ipodis in recovery mode you press ok then click retore and you are as good as new.
