The really funny thing is... In 4th Edition not having a cleric in the party wouldn't have been a problem and Hitler wouldn't have died from reaching -10 hp.
Poor Hitler. Caught in the past (editions) but refusing to move forward.
One more comment I have to make about the Bard: I created a cute little swimmer about the size of a kitten that I figured would make an excellent bard. In fact, if you look at the Monster Manual, the favored class of some of the beloved creatures like merfolk is bard. If that n00b thinks that a bard is supposed to be this warrior, type character, he is so mistaken.
This is going to be attacked from all sides, but, how are 3.5 and 4 so different? Never actually played 3.5, as far as I know, and I have about 20 minutes total on 4th Ed. But I do play Alternity and DnD 4th was way different from Alternity. Everything was backwards.
Another thing I had to comment about my idea for a campaign map is that whenever I would write anything, it does have some realism and culture to it. In this case it would be a reference of just about anything that happened with Eurasia between 2000 BC and the 18th Century along with all the mythologies thereof. In that case, I knew that I had more fun with managing what people do for fun, particularly sports, than the actual warfare.
@SirGabriel2076 In my opinion, that is the real fun of an RPG. It is about the diversity of culture between you and your friends. Tordek and Mialee could be talking about Warhammer and Magic as well as Relic's Homeworld, while Jozan would just stand aside and say, "your conversation is boring." That is the exact humor you get in the 8-bit theatre comics.
Wait a second: If everyone is Lawful Good, doesn't that make the Bard Lawful Good as well? If that is the case, then that would make him even more than a n00b because he has never leveled up at all for a while because he is an ex-Bard. Bards can't be lawful.
ANOTHER POINT! THE GUY WANTED TO PLAY A FRIGATE ACTION HERO TYPE ARCANE SPELL CASTER! THE WAY PEOPLE PLAYED THE GAME IS JUST LIKE USING NOTHING BUT MILITARY AND CASTLES IN THE TOTAL WAR CAMPAIGN, NOT EVEN CARING MUCH ABOUT RELIGION AND SUCH!
@TheBenihimesama I totally agree. Dungeons and Dragons is a lot less technical and far more imaginative than any video game could ever hope to be. If people had enough experience making games and had opportunities to play D&D, they would simply say, "Who needs electronic entertainment?"
This is especially true with the campaign I had been developing for years. In my campaign, the only one that fights actual conventional warfare is the Fighter.
Respond to this video... In addition to such, I actually develop some rules if either Magic, Warhammer, or both are to be used in such campaigns. The leaders of such would be by default conjurers or fighters. According to this logic, the reason why the guy had a hard time playing the Bard is because he failed to realize that the Bard is not a class of direct combat, but rather a class of society and culture.
Serves them right for using a barbarian as a tank. Seriously. They can't defend, they have like hide armor at best, and lower HP than all other defender classes.
@Maynardftw LOL defender classes? Ill quote the clip "All of you assholes that play the Fourth Edition get out now" Just kidding, but this clip is 3rd ed, you don't even get proper saves in 4th.
@michaelshawnpeterson what? no really, ive been playing d&d for like, a year and a half, but ive only played 4ed, since its the newest... and i always hear people saying 4th edittion ruined d&d... well, maybe its beacause ive never played the older versions and i dont know any better, but i play 4ed and me and my friends find it amazing. i dont get it, whats so bad about it? please tell me, i dont get it..
@YaiBugy Two big things: The first is that it takes a lot of the creativity out of the player's hands in order to make balancing easier and to make less headaches for the DM. Most people that have played AD&D from 1e to 3e despise this, since magic items become plentiful for no reason, virtually every character has absurd power levels out of the starting gates, lack of variety in classes, lack of creativity on the player's parts due to huge rules and templates, and a huge combat focus.
@YaiBugy Now, 4e is much more focused on slow, drawn out combats than any other edition. You have to look at cards with powers, roll dice to refresh monster powers, keep track of who is bloodied and who isn't, plus deal with a massive list of attack subtypes and status effects. Players in the game are expected to get what magic items they want, and to get them as early as level 2. Instead of a rise to power, players are already powerful and have a bunch of different complex attacks with it.
@YaiBugy Secondly, Wizards of the Coast have been far more focused about money than making sure people are happy. Look at Magic The Gathering, where they constantly have to fix new sets and where players only play maybe two or three unique decks in serious tournaments because nothing else is better (in a game with a good deal of chance, at that!) 3e and 4e suffered from WotC's designs in that it released way too many supplements and figurines without focusing on the actual game design itself.
@YaiBugy If you really want to know what D&D is like, play with either a very considerate 3e DM or with a 1e or 2e fogie (even Basic, if you want!) who doesn't follow most of the rules as written and changes things so that it's easier for himself and his players. Or give Castles and Crusades a shot. None of these play like a board game like 4e tends to with its combats, and each gives the players different ways of communicating what they want to do with the DM without relying on dice or powers
Reminds me of my first hafling rogue's death. I played a female, and one of the party members got drunk in real life... Ended up killing her in the naughtiest way possible against her will
I have to commend you for this. Your subtitles are well-written, feel like real dialogue, AND carry a consistent theme. I've only seen one or two Hitler videos done this well before - bravo!
ive spent the past two weeks trying to figure out how to play this game instead of studying for my year 11 half yearly's... im still no closer to working it out :P
@jonathino001 I'll help! I love this game. 4th Edition anyway. It's really very intuitive on a basic level - with the extra rules there to support the basics and keep things fair.
i do not agree sorcerers do not suck but only if you dont get the rune mage prestige class after 4th sorcerer lvl and get that to lvl 20 it gets sooooo epic
You can control who you attack most of the time, but you lose some control in a frenzy. It's really not as impossible to manage as some folks seem to think it is, though.
Of course, there are always a lot of hilarious stories about how a Berserker slaughtered the party. It must suck when it happens, but they always make me laugh.
@CMXfan From what I have heard, it doesn't give you the liberty that 3.5, and the rest of the dnd versions, gives. Not really sure if that is true. Never have played 4.0
@hotsum0ta I haven't actually played any other edition than the 4th, and even that for only one session. So I can't really say much about the differences. From what I gather, many skills have been removed or combined, but that's about it.
@YoBadMama woah woah woah. wait......Your saying that about 4th? Are you retarded? 4th has got to be the best edition yet for story telling. Sure ADnD was great too, but if you say 3rd or 3.5 was better for storytelling your a fucking dumbshit. ive been playing DnD since 97, sure i was 5 then, but ive grown up with it, my older brothers were in their teens and able to make story, but in 3 & 3.5 you spent 75% of your time doing stupid textbook, rule bullshit, and the rest was based on an encnter
@YoBadMama the little time left to roleplay was minimal if you wanted to have more then 1 or 2 encounters a night. Seriously, i know it came fast but 4th edition is probably the best thing to happen to DnD. If your having trouble with storytelling its you or your DMs fault, ive played countless times over the years and would have to say hands down, 4th edition all the way.

So he got killed by the clown Start copying
4th edition is so much better. It's mechanically clearer and overall better designed. The sad part is that Hitler and some other detractors never actually tried the game before bashing it or labeling it. I know I'm never going back!
@MarioRocket It really draws a lot from modern videogames, and that did a lot of good to the game, IMO... classes, monsters and combat are definitely improved. Anyway, it's always a matter of personal taste, my point was no one should dismiss the new edition before giving it a chance :)
I like most of the art, specially the bigger pieces. Not mind blowing, but compares well to 3.5 (Core Books-wise).
@landovers it is a matter of personal taste i concur with that, its a good game in whole, but the main issue there is that the options are too limitted and its very straight forward.
i believe taht new D&D players would like better 4th edition rather than 3.0 or 3.5
@landovers Most people like to level past lvl 4. Thats pretty much impossible when 1 combat = 1 session. In 3.5 you have a fast paced game that has combats that dont drag on the entire night while giving a rewarding gaming experiance
@Yanda911 That's a fair point. As a DM I tend to be more generous about XP distribution because of this. It can result in a shorter campaign, but usually it's not a huge difference, and the momentum picks up as players get used to their characters. Anyway, I would never trade 4th edition's tactical depth for pace, since it's the highlight of the new edition to me, but I understand it's a matter of preference.
@landovers That is because you are not creative enough. Dungeons and Dragons is a hobby game, not a video game. The best DM's are secretive, intelligent, and at the right moments, easy to understand. I bet that some of the best DM's actually keep some rules of the campaign a secret for perspective purposes.
@SirGabriel2076 What exactly are you referring to? The ruleset of an RPG has nothing to do with creative roleplaying. The creativity stems from the players and DM themselves. Rules in a RPG are made to be adapted and broken, but that's no excuse for them not to be clear and balanced from the get go. D&D has always strived for clarity, specially in combat where it's most important, and when they finally achieve that people are unsatisfied. Go figure!
@landovers Actually, I believe you misinterpreted what I am saying. I see the rulebooks as guidelines, not rules. The most important role of the books is to ensure a balanced game play so anything could be fun without breaking the balance or making things too unfair. For a D&D world builder, a D&D rulebook is to a world builder as an editor is to a novelist or a script writer. I use such books for criticism purposes. That is the purpose of reading the books.
@SirGabriel2076 The Reason why I prefer the 3.5 edition is because it is the version with the most amount of options. It has 11 classes, 9 alignments, countless number of source books, and plenty of differences in books. For those of you who are not fans of the 3.5 edition, forget you. I love creativity and therefore would only accept any games that provide the most amount of options.
@shagoosty Although, in my opinion 3.5 is best, I just like the customization. they made 4th edition too "user friendly" I guess. I just feel they simplified it too much
@MrShinjiTabris What I've come to learn, is that people tend to like their home-brewed version of 3.5. Most people don't play the rules the way they are written. I don't care what people play, I think that people should just enjoy the game and stop bitching about which version is better. Game on.
@SirGabriel2076 In addition to such, most of the campaigns or worlds I develop are compatible with 3.5 e. The reason why to play D&D instead of video games is because you want something sophisticated rather than just killing bad guys. The campaign I have been developing has a lot more than just killing and dealing damage. It has some negotiating and cultural interaction. For me, best entertainment comes from artistic culture portrayal, especially in fighting, not just the action alone.
@MrShinjiTabris In addition, although 4e has 40 classes, 3.5 has more standard classes and actually has variations. My brother, too, hates D&D 4e.
In my opinion, D&D should be to video games as books and plays are to movies and television. Having everything simplified defeats the purpose of playing D&D.
@SirGabriel2076 Another thing I love about 3.5 is the fact that it actually includes the alignments Chaotic Good and Lawful Evil. This goes very well with both the moral motivation of escapism that the genre of fantasy and adventure provides and the politics that made the real life variants of the Middle Ages. My campaign is actually based on historic events of the Late Middle Ages, including 1942 and therefore should have those two alignments.
@SirGabriel2076 In addition to that, 3.5 states that the only thing that truly matters is your not evil. Law and Chaos are both important and can be good or evil. Neutrality is just as important as Good as it provides a balance in life. No other edition supports that philosophy or creativity.
lol I DM, and one of my players wanted to be a frenzied beserker, but the other players refused to let him (cuz theres a chance that he kills the party members). Well he made the beserker anyway, and constructed really well almost to a cheater point, so the party simply tried to kill the beserker in the game the first time he had to attack a friendly, and the beserker killed the rest of the party.
@silentprophet777 That bites, lol. A good FB (or at least whenever I play one) comes with a killswitch on him activatable only by a party member in some fashion. As little as a 1 level dip in Thayan Knight can get this done, though there are other ways.
Idiots, doesn't anyone have Dominate Person as the spell?! Illusions or just play dead. How hard can it be? The Berserker can't use skills and actions that require patience so checking if they are dead with a Heal check is out of the question, probably his spot is not so high either, nor should his sense motive be. So!
@jgressly 4th blows so bad..they have dumbed it down for the masses, and its just managed to drive off their base. This was ALWAYS a brain game, and now its becoming "Gauntlet" on paper. So Sad...
Having to be resurrected sucks so bad! Still it was always a great excuse to hit the beer harder whilst going on a chain smoking spree and starting on the munchies for comfort!
This is easily the best one of these ever done.

@hotsum0ta I haven't actually played any other edition than the 4th, and even that for only one session. So I can't really say much about the differences. From what I gather, many skills have been removed or combined, but that's about it.
CMXfan 11 months ago
@CMXfan It's because it gets rid of most of the imagination and storytelling, and replaces it with kick-down-the-door style of play.
YoBadMama 10 months ago
@YoBadMama woah woah woah. wait......Your saying that about 4th? Are you retarded? 4th has got to be the best edition yet for story telling. Sure ADnD was great too, but if you say 3rd or 3.5 was better for storytelling your a fucking dumbshit. ive been playing DnD since 97, sure i was 5 then, but ive grown up with it, my older brothers were in their teens and able to make story, but in 3 & 3.5 you spent 75% of your time doing stupid textbook, rule bullshit, and the rest was based on an encnter
Slyboogy07 10 months ago
@YoBadMama the little time left to roleplay was minimal if you wanted to have more then 1 or 2 encounters a night. Seriously, i know it came fast but 4th edition is probably the best thing to happen to DnD. If your having trouble with storytelling its you or your DMs fault, ive played countless times over the years and would have to say hands down, 4th edition all the way.

Poor Hitler, if he played 4th edition his character would still be alive. He'd have to reach negative bloodied value.

I find it ironic Hitler is saying they have to ressurect him because of their lawful good alignment.

I play 4e, but I tried out 2e, and it really is better. And the 2e books cost like $5.00.

In 1956 a man who had a job as a circus clown. A week after he got the job he made good money. But a man killed him. So his spirit now goes around killing people. If you do not copy and paste this to 10 videos in 20 minutes you will be killed by him. Victim 1. Johnny Gibson: Johnny didn't listen and didn't copy and paste. So he got killed by the clown Start copying

I thought i liked 3.5 until I played 4E.
4th edition is so much better. It's mechanically clearer and overall better designed. The sad part is that Hitler and some other detractors never actually tried the game before bashing it or labeling it. I know I'm never going back!
landovers 1 year ago
@landovers 4E is a videogame written on a book with the worst art ever
MarioRocket 1 year ago 2
@MarioRocket It really draws a lot from modern videogames, and that did a lot of good to the game, IMO... classes, monsters and combat are definitely improved. Anyway, it's always a matter of personal taste, my point was no one should dismiss the new edition before giving it a chance :)
I like most of the art, specially the bigger pieces. Not mind blowing, but compares well to 3.5 (Core Books-wise).
landovers 1 year ago
@landovers it is a matter of personal taste i concur with that, its a good game in whole, but the main issue there is that the options are too limitted and its very straight forward.
i believe taht new D&D players would like better 4th edition rather than 3.0 or 3.5
thanks for the conversation... good day!
MarioRocket 1 year ago
@landovers Most people like to level past lvl 4. Thats pretty much impossible when 1 combat = 1 session. In 3.5 you have a fast paced game that has combats that dont drag on the entire night while giving a rewarding gaming experiance
Yanda911 1 year ago 3
@Yanda911 That's a fair point. As a DM I tend to be more generous about XP distribution because of this. It can result in a shorter campaign, but usually it's not a huge difference, and the momentum picks up as players get used to their characters. Anyway, I would never trade 4th edition's tactical depth for pace, since it's the highlight of the new edition to me, but I understand it's a matter of preference.
landovers 1 year ago
@landovers That is because you are not creative enough. Dungeons and Dragons is a hobby game, not a video game. The best DM's are secretive, intelligent, and at the right moments, easy to understand. I bet that some of the best DM's actually keep some rules of the campaign a secret for perspective purposes.
SirGabriel2076 4 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 What exactly are you referring to? The ruleset of an RPG has nothing to do with creative roleplaying. The creativity stems from the players and DM themselves. Rules in a RPG are made to be adapted and broken, but that's no excuse for them not to be clear and balanced from the get go. D&D has always strived for clarity, specially in combat where it's most important, and when they finally achieve that people are unsatisfied. Go figure!
landovers 4 months ago
@landovers Actually, I believe you misinterpreted what I am saying. I see the rulebooks as guidelines, not rules. The most important role of the books is to ensure a balanced game play so anything could be fun without breaking the balance or making things too unfair. For a D&D world builder, a D&D rulebook is to a world builder as an editor is to a novelist or a script writer. I use such books for criticism purposes. That is the purpose of reading the books.
SirGabriel2076 4 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 In other words, you read D&D books the same reason you would go to a creative writing class or art school.
SirGabriel2076 4 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 The Reason why I prefer the 3.5 edition is because it is the version with the most amount of options. It has 11 classes, 9 alignments, countless number of source books, and plenty of differences in books. For those of you who are not fans of the 3.5 edition, forget you. I love creativity and therefore would only accept any games that provide the most amount of options.
SirGabriel2076 4 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 4th edition has 40 classes, the alignments no longer strong arm you, and allows a lot more creativity with more streamlined rules.
shagoosty 3 months ago
@shagoosty Although, in my opinion 3.5 is best, I just like the customization. they made 4th edition too "user friendly" I guess. I just feel they simplified it too much
MrShinjiTabris 3 months ago
@MrShinjiTabris What I've come to learn, is that people tend to like their home-brewed version of 3.5. Most people don't play the rules the way they are written. I don't care what people play, I think that people should just enjoy the game and stop bitching about which version is better. Game on.
shagoosty 3 months ago 11
@shagoosty Well said, game on
MrShinjiTabris 3 months ago
@shagoosty Good point. STOP TROLLIN'!
SirGabriel2076 2 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 In addition to such, most of the campaigns or worlds I develop are compatible with 3.5 e. The reason why to play D&D instead of video games is because you want something sophisticated rather than just killing bad guys. The campaign I have been developing has a lot more than just killing and dealing damage. It has some negotiating and cultural interaction. For me, best entertainment comes from artistic culture portrayal, especially in fighting, not just the action alone.
SirGabriel2076 2 months ago
@MrShinjiTabris Wow. I don't think I've ever heard someone complain about a product for being too user friendly before.
Stairc 2 months ago
@MrShinjiTabris In addition, although 4e has 40 classes, 3.5 has more standard classes and actually has variations.
SirGabriel2076 2 months ago
@MrShinjiTabris In addition, although 4e has 40 classes, 3.5 has more standard classes and actually has variations. My brother, too, hates D&D 4e.
In my opinion, D&D should be to video games as books and plays are to movies and television. Having everything simplified defeats the purpose of playing D&D.
SirGabriel2076 2 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 Another thing I love about 3.5 is the fact that it actually includes the alignments Chaotic Good and Lawful Evil. This goes very well with both the moral motivation of escapism that the genre of fantasy and adventure provides and the politics that made the real life variants of the Middle Ages. My campaign is actually based on historic events of the Late Middle Ages, including 1942 and therefore should have those two alignments.
SirGabriel2076 4 months ago
@SirGabriel2076 In addition to that, 3.5 states that the only thing that truly matters is your not evil. Law and Chaos are both important and can be good or evil. Neutrality is just as important as Good as it provides a balance in life. No other edition supports that philosophy or creativity.

lol I DM, and one of my players wanted to be a frenzied beserker, but the other players refused to let him (cuz theres a chance that he kills the party members). Well he made the beserker anyway, and constructed really well almost to a cheater point, so the party simply tried to kill the beserker in the game the first time he had to attack a friendly, and the beserker killed the rest of the party.
silentprophet777 1 year ago 53
@silentprophet777 That bites, lol. A good FB (or at least whenever I play one) comes with a killswitch on him activatable only by a party member in some fashion. As little as a 1 level dip in Thayan Knight can get this done, though there are other ways.

Idiots, doesn't anyone have Dominate Person as the spell?! Illusions or just play dead. How hard can it be? The Berserker can't use skills and actions that require patience so checking if they are dead with a Heal check is out of the question, probably his spot is not so high either, nor should his sense motive be. So!

@Phireo when ur only spellcaster is a noob bard, and the party is a bust-down the door type group, not very witty, then this is very concievable
