I read Shadows in the Jungle. It was quite impressive what these men did. I particularly loved the part in the beginning where the former Alamo Scout at age 80 something beat up the guy trying to rob him. Galen Kittleson, you and all the other men who served in WWII are true heroes.
I have just watched the documentary about THE GREAT CABANATUAN RAID and all i can say is it was VERY IMPRESSIVE SIR!I am a Filipino and what the AS did was heroic against the almost impossible.Truly it was a well planned rescue.
The feats of the Alamo Scouts are very impressive, the attrition rate I calculated was of about 95%. Probably the best US SF in history, and certainly one of the most untalked of and most inspiring to most modern US SF. Great respect.
2nd Mr. Zhang's comments, 6!! A fervid hunt for material after discovering AS via an HC docu met w/disappointing results until the recent release of Shadows in the Jungle. Banking that you're familiar already w/many of those featured already.
In an era unsure of its patriots, the selfless, silence-as-a-weapon professionalism of AS is an example to us all.
The book, "Silent Warriors" came out about 14 years ago. The Alamo Scouts website was on the internet in 1999. All you had to do is goggle, "Alamo Scouts"... "Shadows in the Jungle" is pretty much a copy of "Silent Warriors".
What I meant was that(and perhaps I just had my skull in the quicksand)it seems that only recently has AS gotten the air time so often afforded Rangers, Merrils Marauders, Devil's Brigade, etc. Rest assured, Googling was done after this most stellar group came to my attention.
Many mahalos again, and I look forward to finding a copy of SW.
Right now you can find copies of SW on ebay... at $39.00, that's a lot of money. But it might be worth it to have a copy. Next summer, the author of SW and I are coming out with a new book on the Scouts. We think it will be called, "Silent No More, The Alamo Scouts in their own words". The book is made up of their own words from interviews and letters. There will be also some quotes from the PT Boat crews that brought the Scouts to their missions. What I've read so far, it's a must have book.

The Special Forces (Green Berets) lineage comes from the Alamo Scouts. In 1988 members of the Alamo Scouts were awarded Special Forces tabs.

Thanks for your comment. Probably some of the stuff you learned as a cavalry Scout first came from the Alamo Scouts. Thanks you for your service...
