Kirk Hammett have much more technique than dave murray, compare the solos from kill 'em all and ride the lightning of solos from murray. Kirk hammett is much better than murray.

And dave mustaine is a one million times better than hammett and murray together.

I like of this three bands: Metallica, Iron Maiden and Megadeth, but mustaine kick murray and hammett ass.

What the fuck. How can you possibly say that Kirk Wahmett is a better guitar player than Dave Murray. Seriously, Kirk hardly ever plays outside the pentatonic scale and his entire repertoire consists of like 10 different licks? Not to mention he covers his sloppy playing with his wah effect which he overuses like mad.

Both Dave Murray and Mustaine are miles better than Hammett, but Murray is far above Dave Mustaine.

Dave has always been my favorite Maiden guitarist...his legato stuff is so cool, so is his creamy neck pickup tone. I also dig Adrian's playing- more picked notes, wide vibrato....Don't like Janick. Not his playing, and especially his stage fag show. Maiden showed they were loyal friends by not canning him when Adrina came back, but he sucks. I know millions of fans love the dude....but, well, they are wrong.

just the idea of playing rhythm parts with the bridge pickup and using the neck pick up only for solos is awesome... his lead sound is highly distorted and at the same time it reminds you of carlos santana's creamy fuzz sound

@WizardofFuzz I do the same on my les paul, I like to turn the neck volume down nearly all the way for just a slightly overdriven sound (out of my blackstar ht-dist and peavey 212) and then switch to the neck pickup (with the volume at full and the tone at 2/3rds) for that eargasmic smooth sound.

I've said it for years....DAVE MURRAY RULES!!! His playing is SOOO soulful, and for him to pack all that feeling at the break-neck speed at which most of their songs are played is truly amazing. I love Adrian Smith to pieces....don't get me wrong, but Dave just has that SOMETHING in his playing that strikes a chord (no pun intended) with me.

Dave's capable of amazing things, but some of the solos here are pretty sloppy, as I'm sure he would admit. You've got to hand it to him for the risks he takes when improvising at speed, though. When he manages to make it work it's just brilliant.

People who play only at home, alone, don't know what is creating a solo live perfectly, following other 4 instruments, and looking like he knew all notes before.

Of course you can, sitting in a chair on your home, with headphones, do what he does on the studio. But you wouldn't be able to follow him in a live show. Just because you don't know how it is standing in front of 300000 people and playing even better than in the studio.

İnsulting the allmighty pentatonic scale will cause you to be haunted by the souls of jimmy page or jimmy hendrix and all the other great guitarists who got famous out of the pentatonic scale. Besides most of the time dave doesnt even use scales thats what makes him so awsome.

@joeyplusamanda well Maiden has not been known solely for being a "guitar gods" band, maybe the harmonizing dual guitar melody work has been legend. Maiden's strength has been the whole package, each member stands equal amongst their peers in the industry, no weak spots to be found. (of course not many have ever equaled the Bruceness of the vocalist}) Nicko, Steve, also excel at what they do. If the music doesn't convince you, you shouldn't wear the T-shirt- unless you are looking to be trendy.
