  • its not about money people. its about enjoying your job and loving to cook :). if youre doing your job because you want money then you are a greedy fucker

  • If you have a tireless work ethic, and are always eager to learn more about yourself and the way you cook, you can make millions. But if you're content with being where you are, they you get stuck in the median.

  • what, 30k? People who stack shelves are on 30k here, I thought chefs earned alot more!

  • @FieldMarshalRommel23 Chef's not are just starting to be more recognized. I would know, I went to culinary school and started off as a measly dishwasher -_-. Unlike some other jobs being a chef takes dedication and knowledge of your craft and a good work ethic. Hard work can really pay off, you just gotta stick with it.

  • Chef + own restaurant = 200k a year. Chef alone 20-35k

  • You need to get the money out of the business how ever you can...... I worked and have always been honest and with high levels of integrity, not stealing not even drinking or eating during my shift. Then I realized that others were eating as much as they could, drinking beer and hiding in the walk in, smoking dope before and after work and tried to do as least as possible " The less you do the more you earn "....... and were successful in the kitchen. I just haven't had much luck in 20 yrs he he

  • $40k. Is that before or after taxes?

  • im a chef de partie. i went to college when i was 21. ive been cooking for 4 years. im making £260 a week. its not bad. plus being in the kitchen is more fun than being out front!

  • @theodge 1040 pounds not bad??? u kidding right???

  • speaking as a chef myself, the salary is "low" in general anyway for the physical work you have to do, doesn't matter where you work! As a chef you work like a donkey for long hours, weekends, family, xmas, and so on...important days, where you have to work. This can put a lot of pressure on your private life. You MUST have a passion for cooking, otherwise the money isn't worth the stress! You want to work to live, ...not live to work!

  • The executive chef at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco makes around 135k a year. A top chef in NYC or SF makes around $180k a year. In SF top chefs Gary Danko, Michael Minna, Hubert Keller are millionaires. Also look at Pat Kuleto tremendous success. The point is there is very good money if you are smart.

  • lol 40k LOL

  • $40K? That's all?! I know truck drivers and commercial window washers that make much re than that!

  • im in culinary skool i worked in restaurants working 12-14 hr shifts bascially as a chef ur life is the kitchen youll be lucky to have one day off, im getting my associates in culinary than im getting my bachelors in nutrion and dietatics because i need a life i like cooking but i dont love it so if ur thinkin about culinary skool ask yourself do i really wanna do this for the rest of my life?

  • i wanna do this so bad but im afraid i wont make enough money to get by...

  • @XXxKatiexSmilesxXX Here's how to do it: eat a lot during your shift, offer to do the final kitchen mopping at night, then just sleep at the restaurant. I did that for six years at a 4-star restaurant before they caught me. The owner's actually tried to charge me back-rent. I took them to court and won $100K!

  • @XXxKatiexSmilesxXX you make money when you work for yourself.. I cooked in restaurants and didnt make more than 12 an hour.. started a personal chef business with $300 in my pocket.. after a month I was making 6k cash a month. Its whether or not you want to take the risk and do it

  • @XXxKatiexSmilesxXX

But you will always have food on your plate!

  • So if i was to become a chef I'd be poor... well there goes that dream...

  • @ziberteck

I've been looking to be a sous chef for a long, long time since I got laid off from my last job as one. I was one for eight years at my last job and I can say this---favoritism, timing, who you know, and opportunity are big factors. I know good cooks that still aren't finding high scale work, and medicore chefs making the bucks. It's a sad commentary---I loved what I do but had to take a lessor position because of the economy and favoritism.

  • @ziberteck It all depends where you work as well---a healthy and ritzy place like a country club or casino might pay you more. Fine dining, most of the time. Forget the mom and pop stores unless you are the bigwig there---you would make crap money at small cafes unless they owner is working with you personally all the time.

  • @ziberteck pretty much i work at 8 hr for abut 7 yrs finally i went into financial services

  • @ziberteck If you love to cook and you work hard at it I guarantee you'll make a living doing it. If you believe in yourself and I know that sounds corny but it's truely the only way to succeed in ANY job like this where the market is competitive but it's SO MUCH FUN and your always learning new things you'll never get bored with it. You just have to have faith that if you love your job and work at it like everyone has to do you'll make it!!

  • 25 thousand to 30... good lord that's funny. That's AFTER 40k plus for 2 years of school and then 3 years of even less... so after 5 years you start at 25-30????

  • its around 30k for 2 years at a private school

  • wow the payment isn't bad at all :)
