@pillsareyummy lol, pills must be really yummy! I actually was commenting on how generous he was with his answer. Having said that, you don't need to be argumentative, man! Go with the flow brother. Find the humour in things and laugh at them. Nothing is worth an argument, least of all a virtual one. Peace, Oh and you have to let me know which pills are yummy!
Steve Vai is one of the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen and this interview is very inspirational to someone like myself. And Justin is super awesome as well, one of the best guitar instructors ever
You see guys? There is no trick to it. Sure he may have a gift, but the only way to get to this level is just sickening work ethic. So get off your asses and practice. :) Cheers.
His logo is very Masonic - with the 'as above so below' thing, then the pyramid cap stone, pointing 2 the eye - reading below, above (cap), 2 C U, bla bla - & no it's not a joke. I bet he's a Mason, & yes there R other languages besides English. Asians use pictograms a LOT.
Steve! I would like to see You in Poland. Your music is unimaginatively perfect, powerful, soulful. I'd say, that You are virtuoso, but it is something more.
What a class act. Steve is not only an extraordinary guitarist/musician, he also seems to be an incredibly cool, down to earth guy as well. It was interesting to hear his words in this interview. I could totally understand everything he meant concerning doing what you love and disregarding anything else and what other people think. He is one of my all time favorite guitarists for his uniqueness and heart. I am looking forward to meeting him soon. Don't know when, but I will! Love ya bro.
I'm not even a huge Vai fan (a little too cerebral for me) but I admire this kind of total dedication and integrity coming from a person. Very inspiring.
Very cool interview indeed... Steve it's ok we understand you slept with your guitar under your pillow at night... he didn't have much interest in anything else "THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT IF THERE EVER WAS ONE"!!!! Steve you are quite a guitar player.......
This guy is deep. To me, it seems he really goes out of his way trying to evade missconception and missunderstandings when it comes to his woodshedding years. He's really humble and he's really trying to help people while at the same time being honest and keeping integrity. I owe this man thanks. :)
The guitar world owes a lot to you, i am so glad that god brought you to this world, an example to us all, god bless you steve, you are a living legend, long live the king!!! Steve Vai!!!
Very cool interview! I have the same feelings for guitar as Steve Vai. I have donated about 90% of my free time to guitar. I'd rather shred than watch TV, eat-- I've actually stopped doing those things on a regular basis (I don't watch TV anymore and only eat if I'm seriously hungry)! I even bring it to school and rush through all the work just for at least 5 minutes of playing. I really love music and I want to become as great a musician as Steve Vai.
@CDP110 I am exactly the same, everything go out my mind when i play my guitar. I am in love with it. I play it from the moment i get home until i go to sleep.
@CDP110 lol me to i play now for four month and i can already play sweet child o mine but you know its way more fun to get after the challange to play good guitar then watch tv so i share your thoughts
Being a musician and a star of such highness, I think Steve Vai is a very humble person, but the man is far from stupid; tthat Jeff Beck comment was very funny :)
@UndeadZergMetalTep I don't have uploads because I don't need recognition by anonymous dudes in the internet to feel good with myself and my skills. Anyway, it was a reference to a show called metalocalypse, it was a joke. Chill.
And assuming grandparents play poorly, according to your last statement is the only stupid thing here.
This is a great interview. Steve has always been an amazing talent and personality with loads of creativity. However he would not be where he is today without a loads of P R A C T I C E. The dreaded P word. I have been teaching for a year and a half and i have improved ten fold because i have now have structured practices. If only i had done this when i was younger.
the most wise, moving and inspiring "music" video I've ever seen so far. This has to be shown / told to anyone that is willing to excel in their own field, artistic or not.
"Follow your bliss, follow what keeps you awake" is the message I can read here...and I couldn't agree more.
I think its awesome that Steve Vai is so positive and advocates hard work. With persistence there are rewards and the rewards are not fame but the love of music
I get hell al the time because I am actually happy playing @ home in my little studio. I miss playing out allot, but finding the right "team" is not that easy. aplus I just wanna play my music, Dad called it Noize....imagine that !!!!

ok I like steve he's beyond a wizard on guitar but for most of us
first you need time most of us work with no time to practice
money so you can house, cloth and buy guitar rigs that cost as much as a house
backing investors "ie" record label contract, endorsements from guitars, amps tours & money to pay employees like techs, lawyers and such
oh too! time for your spouse and family
he's great! and made it.
