  • he looks like a leaner tony iommi

  • i learn more listening to him speak than watching him run down licks.

  • steve vai's evil twin brother

  • Legend.

  • face fuzz! never seen steve vai with any facial hair, cool.maybe joe satch should grow a big beard and they could be the new ZZ top

  • Best Vai video Ive seen

  • U looks like a Russian with that beard.

  • the beard is cool

  • Arguments are fine, so long as they're constructive. My comment wasn't combative in any way. Perhaps you should word your comments better to avoid misperceptions? Just a thought...

  • @pillsareyummy Thanks for the thought and the advice! You still didn't answer my question Which pills are we talking about?

  • @HamadaElMansour The 'pills that are yummy' of course. The rest I'll leave up to your imagination....

  • @pillsareyummy You are playing hard to get!

  • question 1 Justin, So Steve a 10-hour work out? Can you explain?

Steve: yes, bla bla bla (1min) bla bla bla (2min) bla bla bla (3min) bla bla (7min) and bla bl (20 sec)

    Wonderful!

  • @HamadaElMansour If what you heard was 'blah blah', perhaps you weren't listening.

  • @pillsareyummy lol, pills must be really yummy! I actually was commenting on how generous he was with his answer. Having said that, you don't need to be argumentative, man! Go with the flow brother. Find the humour in things and laugh at them. Nothing is worth an argument, least of all a virtual one. Peace, Oh and you have to let me know which pills are yummy!

  • and mastered it you have, 3:07

  • He looks a little bit like Bono here. I prefer the regular 'Vai' look.

  • Great ending. Thanks 4 the post!

  • Steve Vai is one of the most amazing guitarist I've ever seen and this interview is very inspirational to someone like myself. And Justin is super awesome as well, one of the best guitar instructors ever

  • Steve Vai, what do you mean by weaknesses?

  • You see guys? There is no trick to it. Sure he may have a gift, but the only way to get to this level is just sickening work ethic. So get off your asses and practice. :) Cheers.

  • =D

  • Steve Vai has music in his genes.

At 00.24 he has a stave lined in his forehead...

  • His logo is very Masonic - with the 'as above so below' thing, then the pyramid cap stone, pointing 2 the eye - reading below, above (cap), 2 C U, bla bla - & no it's not a joke. I bet he's a Mason, & yes there R other languages besides English. Asians use pictograms a LOT.

  • Steve Vai looks like a Samurai of Music!! ;)

  • Steve Vai look like Italian Mobster!!!!! On guitar!!!!!

  • Steve! I would like to see You in Poland. Your music is unimaginatively perfect, powerful, soulful. I'd say, that You are virtuoso, but it is something more.

  • now here's a man of pure genius...

  • i love the masonic handshake at the end. vai is the master

  • That was by far the best interview I've seen. Really great advice, and fantastic way of seeing the music. Thank you so much.

  • I totally agree with you, master Steve!... :)

  • now try not to adore him :)

  • Fascinating! =)

  • Lol what was that horn sound at 2:43

  • What a class act. Steve is not only an extraordinary guitarist/musician, he also seems to be an incredibly cool, down to earth guy as well. It was interesting to hear his words in this interview. I could totally understand everything he meant concerning doing what you love and disregarding anything else and what other people think. He is one of my all time favorite guitarists for his uniqueness and heart. I am looking forward to meeting him soon. Don't know when, but I will! Love ya bro.

  • he is looking like james labrie a lot here

  • This must be the longest reply to any one question ever in the world. Can anyone get the guiness guys to see this??

One question and BOOM!...a 7 minute reply....

  • HE is awesome !

  • ahhhhhhhhh he looks like iommi

  • thumbs up if you wish he had given the beard a shot in the 80's

  • lol i think jeff beck knows hot to play an f sharp on the g string :D

  • I saw 6 guitar strings on his forehead in the clip :P.

  • i want you to be my FATHER!

  • Steve Vai is like the Bruce Lee of guitar. Both very wise and uniquely talented.

  • Pretty inspiring, not just for guitar but for everyday life.

  • Is it just me or does mr. Vai look like white Snoop Dogg with the shades and the beard? :D

  • STEVE VAI and JUSTIN SANDERCOE!!!!!!! both of my favorites!!!!!!!!!!

  • ok I like steve he's beyond a wizard on guitar but for most of us

first you need time most of us work with no time to practice

money so you can house, cloth and buy guitar rigs that cost as much as a house

backing investors "ie" record label contract, endorsements from guitars, amps tours & money to pay employees like techs, lawyers and such

oh too! time for your spouse and family

    he's great! and made it.

Rock on that was a great interview

  • It's BEARD VAI !!

  • Once I dreamed of becoming a wizard.

  • Wow excellent interview!!! Steve was so open in it!!!

  • Great guitar player, great advice, what more can you ask?

  • great interview. IM GONNA PLAY NOW

  • steave you are fucking awesome!

  • thanks Steve Vai

  • I'm not even a huge Vai fan (a little too cerebral for me) but I admire this kind of total dedication and integrity coming from a person. Very inspiring.

  • the better you get the better you get!

  • Very cool interview indeed... Steve it's ok we understand you slept with your guitar under your pillow at night... he didn't have much interest in anything else "THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT IF THERE EVER WAS ONE"!!!! Steve you are quite a guitar player.......

  • British meets American! :-P

  • @xSlash1995x

    justin is aussie

  • @13isaacz1 He is? Now that you say it, you can kinda hear it...

  • This guy is deep. To me, it seems he really goes out of his way trying to evade missconception and missunderstandings when it comes to his woodshedding years. He's really humble and he's really trying to help people while at the same time being honest and keeping integrity. I owe this man thanks. :)

  • beard is so Zappa-esque

  • WoW!!!!

  • one bad ass looking guitar hero.

  • Great posting!

  • STEVE!!!! KEEP THE BEARD!

  • Steve Vai looks like Mystery Guitar Guy with long hair! :O

  • steve looks like james labrie

  • @CESARG888 No. James Labrie looks like Steve Vai.

  • There is nothing better than a great musician that is so willing to share his knowledge and talent.

  • The guitar world owes a lot to you, i am so glad that god brought you to this world, an example to us all, god bless you steve, you are a living legend, long live the king!!! Steve Vai!!!

  • Someone needs to do something. The steve from the evil universe has come to our world!

  • one thing's for sure: Steve's real good at exaggerating.

  • Very cool interview! I have the same feelings for guitar as Steve Vai. I have donated about 90% of my free time to guitar. I'd rather shred than watch TV, eat-- I've actually stopped doing those things on a regular basis (I don't watch TV anymore and only eat if I'm seriously hungry)! I even bring it to school and rush through all the work just for at least 5 minutes of playing. I really love music and I want to become as great a musician as Steve Vai.

  • @CDP110 I am exactly the same, everything go out my mind when i play my guitar. I am in love with it. I play it from the moment i get home until i go to sleep.

  • @CDP110 Me too;Crazy isn't it ? Just go for your dreams and just go for it!

  • @CDP110 good for you, but you're missing out on all the good food dude.

  • @CDP110 you should eat

  • @insidegoodoutsidebad I'm actually eating right now! I just don't eat as often as (I guess) I should.

  • @CDP110 Go for it dude. You can do it. It just takes discipline and you apparently have that. Just keep it up.

  • @CDP110 rock on dude

  • @CDP110 you bet you'll make it, keep going.

  • @elppce Thanks! I'm progressing :)

  • @CDP110 I dont watch tv anymore but i love eating..

  • @CDP110 lol me to i play now for four month and i can already play sweet child o mine but you know its way more fun to get after the challange to play good guitar then watch tv so i share your thoughts

  • Steve looks cool

  • @Denisdw lol he also looks gay

  • i thinik this just goes to show. that no matter how good you are (or think you are) theres ALWAYS room for improvement.

  • Being a musician and a star of such highness, I think Steve Vai is a very humble person, but the man is far from stupid; tthat Jeff Beck comment was very funny :)

  • vai guy wanna french fry? oh my!

  • no lol!!!!

  • @UndeadZergMetalTep I don't have uploads because I don't need recognition by anonymous dudes in the internet to feel good with myself and my skills. Anyway, it was a reference to a show called metalocalypse, it was a joke. Chill.

And assuming grandparents play poorly, according to your last statement is the only stupid thing here.

  • Great interview. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  • Awesome interview!

I can relate very well, Steve. You rock.

  • Steve Vai you are 50, time to start looking it!

George Clooney is a year yonger than you dude!

Seriously please don't end up like that freak Gene Simmons because that is where you are headed!

P.S The beard is good, just lose the hair dye and buy some scissors!

  • he is good! but check out justin bieber :D

  • @guitar1324 justin bieber is GGGGGAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!

  • Steve looks stressed....

  • @sysrq120 cuz he's not playing guitar :P

  • King

  • Interesting interview.

You were born to be a fantastic guitar player!

  • CUT

    THAT

    BEARD!

  • This is a great interview. Steve has always been an amazing talent and personality with loads of creativity. However he would not be where he is today without a loads of P R A C T I C E. The dreaded P word. I have been teaching for a year and a half and i have improved ten fold because i have now have structured practices. If only i had done this when i was younger.

  • the most wise, moving and inspiring "music" video I've ever seen so far. This has to be shown / told to anyone that is willing to excel in their own field, artistic or not.

"Follow your bliss, follow what keeps you awake" is the message I can read here...and I couldn't agree more.

  • This was the best advice i heard in a long while.

Do what excites you. Most people always go like, do this and do that.

    But he is so right.

Musicians dont need to know music. They need to do what they are good at.

  • So you've finally met THE man !

  • when i looked at the title. i thought he was intervewed by Justin Bieber.

  • i agree with this, especially "either you had to be cool or thought you were cool. i was neither".

  • That was some good life advice.

  • Visualization manifested into reality from the mind and Heart of Steve Vai Thanks Steve for the Big Picture Tip !!

  • Visualization manifested into reality from the mind of Steve Vai Thanks Steve for the Big Picture Tip !!

  • Ending really makes me laugh !!! )))))))))

  • holy shit! steve's getting interviewed by a youtube guitar teacher ;D

  • omg this guy constantly voices my thoughts about music. its scary as hell!!

  • woooooow great interview!!! thank you Steve Vai fot this!! i love you!

  • "The better you get, the better you get" WOAH, he just blew my mind

  • I think its awesome that Steve Vai is so positive and advocates hard work. With persistence there are rewards and the rewards are not fame but the love of music

  • I sense Steve was/ is a "Loner" type, good thing for the music world.

  • what was the name of that book?

  • Did he(Steve) just said he's very shy?

  • Always interesting and highly inspirational :) Also loving his new facial hair! :P

  • awesome!

  • GOD

  • Steve, you are my hero. I don't have anything else to say.

  • @UndeadZergMetalTep granpas guitars?

  • NO SHAVE NOVEMBER

  • @UndeadZergMetalTep no acoustic! just, electric bud.

  • Steve looks pretty badass with that beard thingy haha

  • I get hell al the time because I am actually happy playing @ home in my little studio. I miss playing out allot, but finding the right "team" is not that easy. aplus I just wanna play my music, Dad called it Noize....imagine that !!!!

    Keep'em in tune or bend'em in !!!!

  • If its not already thought of now,Im sure in a 100 years Steve Vai is going to be looked at as a Pagannini or Mozart to the guitar and rock history. Im only glad that its now and I was here and alive to witness.Thanx Steve Vai
