I heard that Spider Monkeys are seen all over the place. Are they in the trees near La Fortuna? Do Ticos have them for pets or are they a protected species? Thanks....I need a pet. ;)
In the four years we've been here I haven't seen many spider monkeys. Howler monkeys and white face capuchin monkeys are all over costa rica. the squirrel monkeys are mostly around the manuel antonio and corcovado area. you wont see any monkeys around La Fortuna unless you go on a hike in the jungle. It is illegal to have them as pets, but in the more rural parts you will see people with them.
Cano Negro is about 1 1/2 hours from La Fortuna. There are lots of tour companies that do trips to Cano Negro from La Fortuna. La Fortuna is in Alajuela near the Arenal volcano.
Actually there is just few companies that make trip to Caño Negro, normally they sold you los chiles, but you are note. Hotel de Campo under the trade The Original Caño Negro is offerig the real deal.
@hoteldecampo Yup, I think the 'real' Cano Negro Tour needs to be promoted more and marketed BETTER most people do think the Los Chiles one is the REAL one. thanx for the comment....we got to visit you guys sometime....and VIDEO.
