Most of the small towns that will be affected are going to flood anyway, regardless of what is done. It is a terrible thing and New Orleanians understand the agony of flood better than anyone. Our hearts are with all the flood victims. We pay more money into FEMA than any other city, so all we can hope is that our dollars will help.

For low water areas, "canned foam" seals doors & leaks from water. Forget sandbags in front of doors to stop water when it's only a foot high, use foam. It also works when applied under the water, it will stick to the door that's already starting to let water in. I used it during a flash flood out of despiration, [from the outside] & it worked! I scraped it off later w/ a sliced plastic piece off a bleach bottle. The water was almost a foot high, but I stopped it before major damage. 40 ft. run!

They don't want to open the Morganza because it will flood so much of the bayou country and those poor people have just been going through one hell after another. Jindal is pushing for the Morganza but they'll probably wait until all of the Spillway is opened. I won't evacuate. If the River comes through, New Orleans is finished. I'd rather just sit in my house and die.

That it disrupts lives and causes heartaches is the price we pay for getting in its way. For low water areas, "canned foam" seals doors & leaks from water. Forget sandbags in front of doors to stop water when it's only a foot high, use foam. It also works when applied under the water, it will stick to the door that's already starting to let water in. I used it during a flash flood out of despiration, [from the outside] & it worked! I scraped it off later w/ a sliced plastic piece off a bleach bottle. The water was almost a foot high, but I stopped it before major damage. 40 ft. run!

@frodo70444 The water in the water treatment plant got contaminated the minute the power cut out. It wasn't drinkable. At all. Not even for rats. Yes, some people were animals and looted, but the majority of people who stayed did not own a car or didn't have the money to pay for hotel rooms or were elderly and alone. If we, as a society, are going to keep people on welfare and dependent on the government, then we have to bus their asses out with a Category 5 hurricane coming.

@frodo70444 I'm in New Orleans, six blocks from the river. Not sure if the Spillway will help significantly. How do flood gates work anyway? If the water has enough velocity, it'll come through. They are going to have to blow a hole to spare New Orleans...again.

@frodo70444 We should be okay with just the Spillway but the crest will be 6 inches from the top of the levee. They don't want to open the Morganza because it will flood so much of the bayou country and those poor people have just been going through one hell after another. Jindal is pushing for the Morganza but they'll probably wait until all of the Spillway is opened. I won't evacuate. If the River comes through, New Orleans is finished. I'd rather just sit in my house and die.
