I saw this when it first played. I was nine. It came on in the afternoon, but I was alone. When his image transformed into the monster it scared the living hell out of me. I never forgot it. Now, at 60, I had the chance to see it again, expecting to be scared to death again. Needless to say, I wasn't. But I carried this fear in me for 51 years, never wanting to see it again. I almost wish I hadn't.
@Seakyr I did too [at least at the time[] This, as well as The Hungry Glass and Miss Devore, were in my opinion the 3 best ever episodes hands down!! Very eerie suspenseful and beyond imagination for a young chid- but I wouldn't change it for the world - Sure you wouldn't either! Thanks for watching
I love this -- but I wonder, who was the "horror genre elite" you mention in your description? I want to join! I am writing a sequel to this story, which I hope will be a 15,000 word novelette.
if the glasses showed the truth, then was the truth that a monster was inside all people?

What would be worse? To have to stay in that room alone or to let that stridently shrieking woman in?
