@muffinman72326 You're both right, Jimi gave the burned guitar to Frank who put on the upside down neck and got it playable then used it for many years. When Frank stopped playing it was stored in his house where it remained until a few years ago when Dweezil took it out of storage. He also had to do some work on it to bring it back after its long sleep.
@muffinman72326 According to an interview I read (forget which one, it was on Zappa Wiki Jawaka), it was Hendrix's roadie (or tech, etc.) that gave the guitar to Frank, and not at the Miami Pop Festival, but rather when the roadie stayed at Frank's house. It is the guitar from said festival though.
@muffinman72326 Well, Jimi gave the guitar to Frank in 69, and Frank used it for a number of years, switched the mirror pickguard, put a maple neck, and some different electronics. Then there was a span of a few years that the guitar disappeared, nobody knew where it was. Then Dweezil found it under the stairs at their house, and it was in pieces, no neck, no electronics. He took it to Fender, had it fixed, and had the switched headstock neck, and eventually Frank gave it to him.

Lacks the energy and intensity of the version Frank did on SNL. Not complaining though!

Dweezil really has put in the time to become a first class musician. This is quite a complex piece. Well done.

Actualy, Dweezil found the guitar somewhere in the Zappa mention and refurbished the guitar. It is the guitar Jimi Hendrix set on fire on stage.
oogwerkmedia 1 year ago 8
@oogwerkmedia Actually it was Frank who refurbished it in the late '70's Hendrix gave it to Frank at the Miami Pop Festival in 1969.
