Everyone realizes the death of a loved one is tragic & we'd like to do what we can to stop thing like that from occurring. However, when will people & politicians learn, no matter how many laws they pass people will still die & often tragically. Eventually they'll have a law that says everyone must wear an airbag so they don't die.

Firstly, I am sorry for your loss. I agree that this a complex issue. I do not necessarily see cops as the "bad" guys, but we have to be careful with how much power and authority we grant them. It just seems we keep smudging that line until one day it may be completely gone and we are in a total police state. No one pays attention to legislation though, so these issues become moot points.

Im sure the police are going to abuse the law. 1st they draw blood from people w/ priors, then anyone they think/say is under the influence.They know if they can start and get away with it TX, they can do it anywhere.They did the bill quietly little coverage. One correction - we actually had a Texas County on the last census which had 67 people.

So you can see with these small counties for the Sheriff to be drawing blood is insane - Sobriety tests okay - Stiffer penalties okay - but this is madness.

Officers can already give sobriety tests & if the person fails & refuses to give a breath test, can have his license suspended for 90 days or 2 yrs if 2nd offense.

I don't know fines but I don't think we have them as high as Calif, so...

Fines, suspensions, & jail time could all be increased.

But to have officers drawing blood is insane - I believe we have 1 county w/ fewer than 400 ppl & to have a cop there drawing blood is insanity

In Michigan if you refuse to take the breathalizer you automatically lose your license for a year (no questions asked, automatic), and then they'll just get a judge to order your blood to be drawn anyway.
