Hey there. It's probably been said already but the mini does have Toslink. You'll need to buy the cable or the adapter for it that is similar to a headphone jack but is hollowed for the light to come through. You'll need to set your speakers to it via the preferences. ** I had to find all this out because my mini is a semi home entertainment unit.

In my opinion, the MacBook is the best value. It has an awesome screen, a keyboard and multitouch trackpad. The Mac mini comes with no screen or anything else for that matter. If you buy a cinema display and keyboard/mouse/speakers it will boost the price up to over a thousand.
