This film is pretty authentic - infinitely better than Oscar-fodder garbage like "The Hurt Locker". Although the range of accents is very unlikely, given that regiments were raised on a regional basis, (Pals Battalions were still common in 1916), it's understandable that they wanted a cross-section of British society, both vertically, (with Julian Rhind-Tutt type-cast as the officer class), and horizontally, with all 4 countries and many counties represented by their various regional accents.
i think you guys.... are taking this a bit too seriously. yes it was horrible, but calm down. i dont think anyone is really going to take to heart anything you say about a war that happened almost a hundred years ago. heck not many people really takes seriously what our brave soldiers are doing out there today. so let people think what they will, trying to infringe on someones rights in this great country is an affront to the very thing our troops fight for
@VIDvider You do know that real people, with real families were killed in World War One? Counter-Strike, sure, have some fun, but please don't disrespect my ancestral brothers in arms by demeaning their character portrayed in factual movies, American, British or otherwise.
@VIDvider If you're trying to troll, GTFO. Men have fought and died ao you didn't have to live in an oppressive fascist state. Be grateful.. and mind your tongue, show some respect.
@bh5496 I'm not referring to any war in particular, but the idea is the same. It coming from experiences both personal and those I've been told by my father, grandfather and great-grandfather. All of whom had lost close friends due to war, some were the guy standing right next to them.
@Starshiptrooper420 you didn't get the chance to save any one you just had to keep walking or be shot for cowardice so you just watch them die over your shoulder most didn't die instantly they might of been shot and left behind and then had a bayonet slice through the throat or simply bleed to death
This War was absolute hell, I don't think anyone here can appreciate the Horrors of WWI, and its the simple things, like the smell of the trenches (the smell of rotting corpses and human excrement), the rats and lice, having to piss on cotton and wrap it around your face so you don't die of gas, Imagine your friend who you signed up with, sinking and drowning in the mud of no mans land and you futility trying to save him from his fate, while people are trying to kill you. horrific...
@Starshiptrooper420 Thank you sir! Too many kids think "war" is what happens in a COD game or the like.. these poor kids - YES kids.. barely 18 half of them (most actually lied to get in!!!) - picked up arms to fight a common enemy. Kudos to anyone anywhere who has served. It takes a special person to be able to do that - put yourself in harms way to fight for a cause.
@KennyBare in history class it is sadi that Franz Ferdinand the Duke of Austria was killed by a grenade that was thrown under his motorcade, some say it was a bomb, by a guy named Gavrilo Princip, well that was actually a guy named Nededjko Cabrinovic that threw the grenade, not Princip. Well the grenade took 10 seconds to detonate and the car behind the Duke's bit the bullet instead. Well the Duke of Austria wanted to go to the hospital to see if everyone was ok, but his driver didn't know...
@KennyBare how to navigate the streets of Sarajevo and went by a cafe, were you might have guessed, Gavrilo Princip was enjoying a post failed assassination sandwich and effectively shot the Duke with his pistol.
This looks so freaking FAKE! There was no fucking green grass in nomandsland. How can they make a realistic war movie if "nomandsland" looks like a fucking park. Pathetic!
@tom02061997 Waw, this might be the most stupid reply ever! But I read books, saw a ton of documentaries about WW 1 AND I live in the area near Ypres (Belgium). So, NO i wasn't there! But believe me, Nomandsland didn't look like that. Fool, that green field actually looked as if somebody came to cut the grass once in a while...
@Edohiguma The movie is situated at "the Somme", the battle of the Somme. Type battle of the Somme in at Google and let the pictures speak for itself. Believe me man, BEFORE they attacked there was a huge artillery barrage. So YES, this looks bizarre and stupid. End of story!
@MrPooky9 he was hit in the neck just below the jawline. not a fatal injury, but he COULD bleed out without proper medical attention. oh, and he was hit in the jaw as well. that was a tooth that cut that guy's head.
Friends: Come on McFarlen look into that peek hole for a needlessly long amount of time after your commander explicitly warned you about snipers, it'll be fun!
What a cheap movie. A rifle of that time, making such a sound? And the sound reached their position from that far away? Not to mention scopes didn't allow that far sniping. Anecdote.
@Banzay27 you do know its a movie?? just saying u seem irritated with the things the people used in the movie its only natural do to a lot of things being lost during ww1 so i thing they dont have the time to go back in history and get it precise so just thing about it so if ur not a vet try not to complain about wat was used
Looked through that hole just 1 second to long. Anyone with some sort of experience or training would have known not to look longer than a few seconds. Sitting there having a chat with your "pals" isn't the way to go
The shot sounded like it was shot very very close. Normally, you'd only hear the bullet hitting something/someone or a very soft sound of the shot. =="
You hear an incoming shot in reverse because the bullet is faster than the speed of sound. If it goes by, you hear the sonic boom as it does and then a "whoosh" and finally the sound from the muzzle. @Quentin217 I wasn't talking about the timing of the sound. More like the volume. Don't you think the shot was too loud for a sniper rifle that's probably far away? =/
@TheUltimatekill69 You know that the rifle the German would have been using would be no louder than the other Gewher 98 rifles, right? Which is to say, it wouldn't be anywhere near as loud as it was in this movie. Also, what do you mean by a ricochet kill? Bullets don't really bounce often. The bullet would be more likely to fragment, in which case the worse thing that would happen to the guy would be he gets a few cuts on the side of his face. The shot looked like it hit him dead on to me.
@LucanJacups well actualy sniper bullets would have had a higher calibre than the usual 3o3 so it would have ricocheted of without fragmenting and would have killed him plus now i think about it it is only a film so its not going to be properly realistic
@TheUltimatekill69 Er, what? The Gewher 98 fires a 7.92x57mm round. There's also the fact that in the rare incident that a bullet would ricochet with enough energy left to kill somebody (which would be very, very rare) it would probably need to hit something more apt at deflecting it than the dirt and sandbags available to it.
@LucanJacups for one sandbags wouldnt always have just sand in there plus if they did they could be so compacts they could actualy smash a metal helmet they used to test it like this not all the time but they did
@TheUltimatekill69 I'm not completely sure what you're saying. I understand the part about sandbags not being filled with only sand, which could be true. I'm sure there are some rocks in there or something. This doesn't really have much effect on how the bullet would react, however. The bullet would really probably just disintegrate upon hitting the sandbag. On occasion it might fragment. It would almost never ricochet, and if it did, it would certainly not have enough power left to kill.
@dutchjoens The Americans joined the war for 1 year and got themselves blown up, not winning a campaign or a battle on their own., You were just target practice for the Germans. Stupid twat.
What an arrogant, self-righteous prick. Winning battles by themselves or with others, it doesn't matter. 117,465 American soldiers and civilians were killed in WW1. That is obviously not nearly as many as the UK and the Commonwealth forces, but these men fought and died just like yours. We respect our allies, and mourn their fallen as well as our own. But just because we didn't fight as long as you did, or suffer as many casualties doesn't mean that those men should be disrespected.
I have read it already, but didn't have room to mention it. The guy was an idiot, one of the small group of assholes who still say stupid things like:
"we saved britains ass in ww1 and ww2 lol want some tea?"
I thank god that these people are a minority, they make all of us decent Yanks look bad.
then the one guy starts cryin like he has ADD , while it's him together with those others who pusht him too looking through that hole , knowing he could die.
@Kolashov ur retarded. his borther never pure pressured his own little brother look through the peek hole. he came to the scene after he got shot. it was his dumbass friends who pureprssured him. thumbs up so people can see
@Kolashov 1st of all, the British troops on the Somme were green as hell so they didn't think that there was such a danger with snipers. second, learn to spell wow, its not that hard. third, what does ADD have to do with crying randomly? get your shit straight
@TheBrosefStalin69 1) So you are saying that because you wear camo , you don't get seen? -_- Also , they DID think there might be snipers , you can tell by the hesitation.
2) I speak pretty good English and have some mild errors because it's not my native language... Actually , i speak 3 languages.
@haydross57 in the army everyone is ur brother and army or not ppl should treat each other like brothers or sisters or even friends forget religion or race we should all unite and i know wt u mean i have 2 bros and a sister btw im the youngest (16)
@haydross57 Me too. I couldn't take seeing my bro get hurt. But if he did, every single german that I came across from then on wouldn't make back to Germany.
@kerranghighvoltage i get mine cut at a barber and i always get a 0,3 a 0,3 looks pretty clean cut.but you can choose any size you want but 0,3 looks best

@Kolashov 1st of all, the British troops on the Somme were green as hell so they didn't think that there was such a danger with snipers. second, learn to spell wow, its not that hard. third, what does ADD have to do with crying randomly? get your shit straight
TheBrosefStalin69 9 months ago
@TheBrosefStalin69 1) So you are saying that because you wear camo , you don't get seen? -_- Also , they DID think there might be snipers , you can tell by the hesitation.
2) I speak pretty good English and have some mild errors because it's not my native language... Actually , i speak 3 languages.
3) I ment ADHD , spelled it wrong.

I feel sorry for his brother. Ive always wanted a bro. And if I were to see him get shot right in front of me, I'd probably go nuts.

@haydross57 Me too. I couldn't take seeing my bro get hurt. But if he did, every single german that I came across from then on wouldn't make back to Germany.
