  • Loved it. I love hearing BWV 996 played on all instruments.

  • Nice nice!

(I can't play guitar, but I like this)

  • It sounds really well for bass!!!

  • absolutely brilliant!!!

  • @1993danielr, too kind! thanks a lot. Kind of junky take when I listen back, LOL, but glad you liked it. Arrangement and PDF on my blog.

  • I love all these people here talking shit about a 6 string having never touched one themselves.

Great execution, sounds good. I love this song and your performance, which doesn't come easy.

  • nice

  • A 6 string bass, cool. Surprisingly I have never see none before until now. Still very awesome cover.

  • I suppose thats a neat trick, I guess.

  • i don't like 6 strings bass =x but...anyway, good...not amazing, but very good ^^

  • no! bleah!

  • cool man nice start, make sure you practice with that metrodome, i knwo you got one laying around

  • heheh rite on man!! nicely done. nice bass too looks like less claples bass.

  • in the info section you have written bouree BWV 896 instead of 996 you've made a mistake my friend !!

  • why do you have 6 strings if you dont use the the bottom b string. just get a 5 string and tune it e a d g c

  • I'm tuned E A D G C F actually. The F is a wound .022 that you can get from Conklin made by SIT.

I do play 5 with a high C most of the time.

I always found the 34" B string to not work much, but I didn't switch to E-F tuning until I found the wound .022 F string.

  • Not to mention, ttsympathetically and add to the timbre nicely :)

  • look like a good exercise for two handed tapping, but looks like the piece doesnt transcend to well to the bass.

  • Aww, no trills besides the ending. :) BTW, just a small correction to the info text, it's from BWV 996, not 896.

  • thanks Pupukissa, I gotta stop calling those off the top of my head...I think my memory's not so great. 996 huh, thanks.

  • i play the bass myself and i can imagine how freakin hard this must be to play really great!!! respect! peace

  • Have you ever tried playing this on a Chapman Stick?

  • Thanks for listening.

No I haven't tried this piece on Stick. I borrowed one for a month one summer, years ago, but I found the tuning and the physical feel of the instrument hard to adjust to. If I ever get one, I'd tune regular 4ths low to high. Such expensive instruments though!

  • why does everything have to be so much harder to play on bass?

  • It is a challenging instrument, that's for sure.

  • original & interesting...i £uv it;)

  • thanks Mike.

  • too cool.

  • Ooo, 6 string bass, cop out.

    Eh, 5 stars anyway.

  • 4 (and 3) string basses were just designed because larger violones, made to size with modern cellos, were breaking due to the tension. That's the only reason they were made. Name me another 4 string instrument tuned in 4ths. Think hard now...

  • Doublebass? (Or Contrabass?)

  • Interesting arrangement! Nicely done.

  • Exquisite. You are a delight, man.

  • i loved it but this isnt in the key of e minor you play it a half step lower i think

  • yeah probably. I tune to A=415 a lot, since I study a lot of early music.

  • Harmonically it would be D# or Eb minor but written on the page and technically it would be E minor.

  • thats awesome never seen it done with a bass 5 stars

  • ohh man

    that's was really good

    keep on !

  • Sweet.

  • Yeah! Very good!!!, Look My Bourre in Electric Bass. Im from Mexico, thank you...

  • awesome!

  • nice job!...I'm working on classical tunes too for tapping guitar

  • absolute perfection could not be any better

  • OMG! bass poetry sir!! Bach should be smiling

  • Very nice sir i think Bach would be thrilled if he could hear the many variations of today thank you very much,

  • cool and creative i enjoyed it

  • Amazing, quick question, is that a scaloped fretboard? or a trick of the light, or my garbage grafiz card playing up : )

  • I wish man, that would be great! But, no, that's my stock Carvin LB-76 that I got in '94.

  • Think I know where "stairway to heaven" came from...

  • ah, lol, I hear you. Bach is like DNA for music, everything derives from his amazing body of work.

  • I can play most of this on guitar, but it sounds better on bass.

  • omgggggggggggg

  • excellent ! it really shows your dedication to this wonderful instrument ! ;]

    congrats !

  • it was good but you shouldnt have used this take, there are some mistakes

  • holy shit!! really amazing!!! beautiful, man =D

  • hey! that was awsome! i'm 15 and I've been playing the bass for 2 years now ,and this is the best thing i've seen yet! great job!

  • thanks for listening! Keep playing and listening to everything you can, and enjoy your studies.

  • Well done! It's always great to see people pushing the bass guitar out into places people don't think it belongs.

  • you are too kind! Thanks for listening.

  • nice!needs cleaning....but still good job

  • ace, but ur not playin it in Eminor :P

good job though, now just clean up the changes between sections :D

  • yeah, a bit out of time, however, a very very cool idea and performance... good job

  • very cool. this in standard tuning for 6 string bass?

  • hey there,

Thanks, I'm playing it in e minor, and that always worked tuned B-C, but in the last few years I'm actually tuned E-F with a .022 wound F that you can get from Conklin, made by SIT. I find the B at 34" just doesn't sound very good. I want to put a hipshot on my e string so I can drop every now and then, but don't want to have the B string there not sounding good.

  • a little bit more rhythic please

  • beautiful~~~~~~~

  • is it possible for this to be played on a 4 string? because i love playing this on piano and cello but i dont have a 6 string bass and its sounds real good!

  • yeah, not as flently, but can be done. I posted a clip on my beloved Fender Bullet bass that I loaned to my good friend.

  • That's bad ass if you clean it up a bit!

  • hey, this sounds really cool =]

try playing it with a metronome...

and keep in mind the characteristics of the baroque period.

    great! =]

  • where can i get a tab for this?

  • on my blog

  • very very cool

    like VERY VERY COOL

  • YOU SUCK!!!

  • i'm not really a bach fan, most of his compositions kind of bore me; but very nice playing, regardless. keep it up.

  • nice man !i m fan

you turned you re bass like a piano ...

the second mouvement is the must complexe ;you must do it for 2 times ....

other things ;i dont know why always i m hearing false notes on tapping ???

so i like the final vibrato it s majestic ...

may be you send a remake thanks .

  • great!

  • It's good to see some classical played on bass, Im a bass player, and it's hard to find anything good for bass.

  • there's quite a bit of interesting material out there actually. and if you can't find anything yourself, you can always write your own music.

  • hey bentorrey, its nice !! ..hey wookiefatcat, thats nice !!!! :-) ..have something special 4 u ! bach bwv 1008 improvised ! look for vid : "bach sarabande jazz guitar" ! regards ! :-)
  • I play this ocassionally out on the streets but I have to admit, this guy does it better than me. I'm going to learn the chords. I remember the melody from my violin playing days.

  • all I can say is WOW!

  • I like way this one floats along. Nice !

  • very nice

  • It's my Carvin LB76 which I got in 1993. Currently I'm tuning E-A-D-G-C-F with a .022 wound F string since I'm working on cello suite 6 which is in a very high range.

  • what kind of bass is that?

  • Nice! Check out some innovative electric bass playing at CDBABY. Type in Brailehouse.

  • Oh cool! I jus fiished learning this too...Tho I play it differently...maybe I'm in a different key.

A little slower tho next time, it's awesome and I love your version no doubt, but the notes sound much better if they sustain, allowing them to be absorbed for emotion. Good tho, VERY good indeed. :)

  • That's amazing playing, man!

    Johan Hackman

  • v good job!

  • It had played very quickly. You should have played a bit slow.

  • damn thats nice...i cant really get that on a four string...at least not by tapping

  • Thanks! Yeah, you really need some room to work those lines, at least a 5 string, and better with 6. I posted a response clip on my Fender bass, but yeah with a 4 you have to jump around so much that it's hard to play fluently. Try it in B minor though, and if you have 24 frets, you can pull it off.

  • skilled!

  • oh my, thats nice to see someone do justice for bach!! i think i might relearn prelude in G major tomorrow now! awesome work my friend, give my videos a watch i am a fan of tapping also

  • THIS MAN IS MONUMENTAL, fantastic, awesome, nice!

  • AWESOME!

  • gooooodddd /bueno/bom/eres o mejor /cara vc foi o melho que ta no youtube huhu,rs,rs,jaja,kkkkkkk bueno/bom/belo/god1

  • simplemente impresionante....

  • fanominal!

  • phenomenal*

  • LMFAO. It sounds just like it. Nice.

  • Tapping isn't the right solution here, I think. Just play it like the normal guitarpart one octave down it with normal picking, would sound funnier!

  • ive been looking for a tab for this for ages, any chance you could send me one?

  • nnnnnnniiiiiiiiccccccccceeeeeeee

  • awesome!!!!

  • that was damn awesome!

  • From a fellow tapper to another I congratulate you!

We need more of this kinda stuff in the bass world it's a techneque still not fully explored or used enough.

However, do work on you timing a bit but I guess with jus a smidge of practise you'll have it tighter than a tight thing...

  • Nicely done. Be careful with the timing though, you have a tendency to play the bits that you know better faster, and slow done when it's a little harder. Great work anyway, though.

  • nice

  • very cool
