No I haven't tried this piece on Stick. I borrowed one for a month one summer, years ago, but I found the tuning and the physical feel of the instrument hard to adjust to. If I ever get one, I'd tune regular 4ths low to high. Such expensive instruments though!
4 (and 3) string basses were just designed because larger violones, made to size with modern cellos, were breaking due to the tension. That's the only reason they were made. Name me another 4 string instrument tuned in 4ths. Think hard now...
Thanks, I'm playing it in e minor, and that always worked tuned B-C, but in the last few years I'm actually tuned E-F with a .022 wound F that you can get from Conklin, made by SIT. I find the B at 34" just doesn't sound very good. I want to put a hipshot on my e string so I can drop every now and then, but don't want to have the B string there not sounding good.
is it possible for this to be played on a 4 string? because i love playing this on piano and cello but i dont have a 6 string bass and its sounds real good!
I play this ocassionally out on the streets but I have to admit, this guy does it better than me. I'm going to learn the chords. I remember the melody from my violin playing days.
It's my Carvin LB76 which I got in 1993. Currently I'm tuning E-A-D-G-C-F with a .022 wound F string since I'm working on cello suite 6 which is in a very high range.
Oh cool! I jus fiished learning this too...Tho I play it differently...maybe I'm in a different key.
A little slower tho next time, it's awesome and I love your version no doubt, but the notes sound much better if they sustain, allowing them to be absorbed for emotion. Good tho, VERY good indeed. :)
Thanks! Yeah, you really need some room to work those lines, at least a 5 string, and better with 6. I posted a response clip on my Fender bass, but yeah with a 4 you have to jump around so much that it's hard to play fluently. Try it in B minor though, and if you have 24 frets, you can pull it off.
oh my, thats nice to see someone do justice for bach!! i think i might relearn prelude in G major tomorrow now! awesome work my friend, give my videos a watch i am a fan of tapping also
Nicely done. Be careful with the timing though, you have a tendency to play the bits that you know better faster, and slow done when it's a little harder. Great work anyway, though.
Loved it. I love hearing BWV 996 played on all instruments.

Great execution, sounds good. I love this song and your performance, which doesn't come easy.

in the info section you have written bouree BWV 896 instead of 996 you've made a mistake my friend !!
strikerrrr 2 years ago
why do you have 6 strings if you dont use the the bottom b string. just get a 5 string and tune it e a d g c
bonfirejovi 2 years ago
I'm tuned E A D G C F actually. The F is a wound .022 that you can get from Conklin made by SIT.
I do play 5 with a high C most of the time.
I always found the 34" B string to not work much, but I didn't switch to E-F tuning until I found the wound .022 F string.
bentorrey 2 years ago
Not to mention, ttsympathetically and add to the timbre nicely :)
sagewah 2 years ago
look like a good exercise for two handed tapping, but looks like the piece doesnt transcend to well to the bass.
bonfirejovi 2 years ago
Aww, no trills besides the ending. :) BTW, just a small correction to the info text, it's from BWV 996, not 896.

thanks Pupukissa, I gotta stop calling those off the top of my head...I think my memory's not so great. 996 huh, thanks.

From a fellow tapper to another I congratulate you!
We need more of this kinda stuff in the bass world it's a techneque still not fully explored or used enough.
However, do work on you timing a bit but I guess with jus a smidge of practise you'll have it tighter than a tight thing...
