To the benefit of others, so as to spread knowledge rather than ignorance, I say this. James Shields was born in Country Tyrone, Ireland. He was a well known Irishman in the US, and Shields are still well known to be Irishmen in the US and Ireland both. Shields was the name used when O'Shiel was banned, and O'Shiel was merely simplified from O'Siadhail. Many of us change it back when we get the chance. It's easy enough to do the research on this to verify this information is true.
