@ttomace Carlos Seixas was from Portugal, Lots of his music was lost in a natural disaster (earthquake I think). He wrote a lot of pieces for harpsichord and organ.
When D. Scarlati was in Portugal, Carlos Seixas taked an audicion with him in orther to be teached but scarlati affirmed: there is nothing that I can teach but a lot i can learn from him.
@justincrzo It was the great Lisbon's earthquake of November !rst 1755. Voltaire writes about it in "Candide". The character was in Lisbon at the time and witnessed that amazing tragedy. It was one of the strongest earthquakes ever.
It's seems to me that de Sexias was had infuence of the later classical composers like Mozart, Haydn this concert is similar by many Mozart, but he came later or Haydn's symphonies in the early time, but it's closest by Vivaldi style and his greatest master work!
Well, generally we have been repeating it for centuries and people still dont get it so maybe you can spread the word and be a little polite. :)
Thank you.
It seems we have been so polite and gracious and humble for centuries, that the majority of foreigners think that Coimbra or Portugal is somewhere in Spain.
Short time ago there were still diaries made like that in North Europe. I have some.
Glad you liked it and thanks for asking. We like to be helpful and don't answer Google it. :)
the Portuguese are the first to have a complex that everything made in portugal must be inferior. Especially in regard to Spain. Scarlatti started in portugal and finished in Spain which indicates that very good things have their beginnings in portugal.
We dont have any complex with Spain. I think it is Spain that always had a complex about Portugal. The Portugueses were the only Iberian that always resisted against Castilian occupation and with lesser population (1 million) had a greater maritime expansion, greater courage, greater balls to explore unseen worlds and to establish and culturally influent countries, from Japan to Brazil. We open new roods to the world the others came next throughout these roads.
The problem of Spain was always trying to isolate/annexe physically and culturally Portugal. Adopting the term Spain, Hispania, the term that the Romans gave to Iberia is only one example of these cultural annexation. Everything that is Hispanico that is from Iberia is Spanish. Happens with music like Folia, Fandango (That are probably from Portuguese origin), the Villanciclos, Cantigas de amigo, etc.
Happens with music like Folia, Fandango (That are probably from Portuguese origin), the Villanciclos, Cantigas de amigo, etc. Happens with horses (the Iberian horse that is now the Andalusian Horse), happens with the bullfighting that is associated with Spain. The Spanish are so funny that they think that the Castanets are from Spain. I can give you several example of this cultural annexation but i just made my point.
When Scarlatti was in Portugal in the 1720's he was asked to give Seixas harpsichord lessons - he replied that Seixas should be giving him lessons! Seixas should have far more recognition today, his compositions have a truly distinctive style. It's a tragedy much of his work was lost in the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 (particularly his sacred music).
Seixas had possibly the same inventiveness as D. Scarlatti, but the latter demonstrated (from what we can tell from the music of both) a tighter and more magisterial grip on (baroque) sonata form, systematically finding new solutions in handling the extremely common binary form of the time. Scarlatti always seems more "in charge" of the medium than Seixas. Albero and Soler could be added on the list with Seixas :-)

Yeah, that's it. Music history considers Haydn an "outshined" hack compared to Mozart :-)
