I take it that not much is changed over to the new engine. It's takes us much longer to change RR AE 3007's but we're changing fire loops, epmd's, and all the bleed ducts over.
hmm anyone know why the changed it? was it simply too old? broken? anything? or this a regular procedure to replace 15 million dollar engines every hundred or so flight hours?
They swap them because of maintenance purposes so this engine will be in for maintenance and when that is finished it will be put back into service and replace another engine that needs maintenance done!
@jaygibbs84 That's an effect called "windmilling", when just the wind turns the engine. A light to medium (I don't know exactly how fast) wind is enough to make this. Even when the engine is on the wing this may happen.
A lot of English airlines haven't declared bankrupcy. We also have a better service on most of our flights e.g Thomson is better than US airlines British airways is better than AA's service
Another thing why dont people over there think airbusses are safe? They're made in Toullose they're perfectly safe i'd be worried if they were made in shoddy surroundings.
@rit130tc Not being an expert on the subject but I would imagine that following a run up it would be necessary to fully inspect the engine for any leaks etc, before calling the job complete.
A very professional video. Have AA good experience with the Trents? The Trent 800 is certainly smaller and lighter than the others - so must be easier to change.
@TheAirproxx When this was told to me by the pilot, he said in a more factual mannor in Chicago red carpet lounge. My old man has been with united for nearly 20 years and travels almost every other month, so you can image the miles he has. But The captain was actually introduced to me by my father. I was hoping on getting the tour of the cockpit but the co pilot was in a pissy mood and things were tight.
@bryanb16th yup and yet the jet engine is way more powerful i doubt 2 of your mecedes engines can produce 92,000 pounds of thrust and make a 400,000 pound jet with passangers and fuel take off and still take it to 89% of the speed of sound
Looking at those engines sitting there just spinning. it looks so peacefull! but in reality. they are going clack clack clack clack clack. driving u up the walls!
@gerry626 Tell me about it! I once worked at an MRO and there was a DA B733 parked outside the hangar. Whenever the breeze blew it would go CLACK-CLACK-CLACK clackety-clack. It was so annoying I finally got a spare electrical cable and tied it around one of the fan blades to stop the fan from spinning.
Standard procedure calls for a big inlet plug, though.
Any airline pilot who is international or few domestic flights have 2 first class seats reserved automatically, but with the 777...they not only get the first class seats, but they get a bunk bed with a private tv..it's the best "seat" on the entire plane besides the left seat in the flight deck. The first class seats turn into beds and have personal DVD players/ tvs for each chair just like international 757s/767s have. The tripple 7 is huge and it really is the best plane in the fleet!
same time to change a car's engine. crazy shit. alot of guys working on it though. wish i could hear them talking... (wrench dropping) fuckin cock sucker can someone grab that for me lol
My dad flys these, this is the b777-200 which uses the Rolls Royce engines, but American just bought 2 b777-300 3Rs, which uses the GE engines and is 50 feet longer. In case you didn't know, the crew has their own bunk beds which is pretty sweet.
@brandons72vette Oh they do? My dad is just going to training to fly them next month for AA haha but i have heard on some websites that say the pilot just sleeps in a reserved 1st class seat?
@mrcable1996 no it is Rolls-Royce because the engine size is smaller than General Electric and the spool-up sound is different and if you look at the front cone the spiral is bigger than that of GE Boeing 77 engines
i have to say on all my flights it is only airbus i have seen people faint and temporarily lose conciousness. I was on a flight on an a330 and a guy temporarily passed out for a split second and couple of others felt funny but the other two were quite elderly. i was really knakcered on an a320 once and after two long flights and lack of sleep at hotel night before i was drifting into sleep on the a320 for short periods and had a large muscle spasm. i wonder about airbus really
@Sony1995forever the blades aren't geared to the crankshaft. so when the winds blows it spins the blades. you can even move them by hand if you wanted to !!!
AA has their major hubs at DFW/JFK/LAX/MIA/ORD with focus cities at SJU/BOS/LGA. UA's hubs are at DEN/SFO/ORD/LAX/NRT/IAD. Of course, this is about to change with the merge with CO. Note that hub airports are not always indicative of major maintenance bases as with UA at IAD. AA completes much of its 767 and 777 maintenace at Ft. Worth's Alliance Airport (not served by the airlines). AA closed in September 2010 its once famous mx base at MCI acquired when it acquired TWA's assets.
Pretty good vid but some of the stats are wrong. Most aircraft burn a quarter of their fuel on take off and all the way up to cruise altitude. Also the price of the engines is more or less 25 million. To change only one fan blade would cost $250,000.
@formber get out of here AA hater... if AA was awful they wouldn't be one of the most successful airlines out here right now and they wouldn't be one of the only airlines that avoided Bankruptcy while everyone else had to declare it.
@igneousrocklad I was not saying they weren't successful, I just have to say, personally, any AA plane I've ridden on has been a rickety old P.O.S. Whereas on other airlines I get more legroom and a plane I feel safe riding in.
@formber You think AA has old planes.... the oldest planes they have are the MD-80's and the 762's... other than that there fleet isn't that old and besides that AA has some of the most well maintained plane fleets in the world... Other airlines get AA to do maintanence for their planes... that says alot about them.... regardless everyone is entitled to their opinion.... my whole thing is just let your opinion be an educated one... lol
@igneousrocklad They avoided it because of their pilots who was willing to take shit contracts to keep the company alive. I know a FO who has been with AA and is still a Junior MD-80 FO. Just sayin... I have nothing against them though. I heard they are currently recalling their Furloughs.
@igneousrocklad maybe, but because of AA avoiding bankruptcy, they also doomed themselves to failure. They don't make money off of their flights, and are in a very bad economic situation right now. AA needs to shape up soon, or else they'll be gone
@mantodowhattodo I recently flew the most tired, dirty AA 757 with video screens that looked like big TVs. Interior was like an old, musty hotel. Must have been one of theirs from 1989 still in service. It was horrible.
@bagrat22 Yeah, they don't even own the majority of their fleet right now. Their only real money maker, which SHOULD be the MD's, aren't making money because they are on lease! They are in so much debt that they can't replace the product that they put on the planes years ago, so people are reluctant to fly with them. I truly hope that AA doesn't go under, they're one of the last great American airlines... but the execs REALLY need to shape up their business strategy.
@bagrat22 agreed. The main airlines I used to fly were Continental, Delta, and Southwest but I doubt I'll be giving any business to United even after their merge with CO
@maxudaskin and is any other airline in the best position possible right now either. No. Every airline has its ups and downs, and i admit AA would be alot better off without Arpey and his brand of cost saving tips.
I'm not an AA hater....but AA is badly managed and is in too serious debt to stay afloat... even worse yet by their EXTANT placement of new jet orders from Boeing and Airbus...which they cant afford to pay for. The airlines' exectutives can't blame high fuel prices for their dire situation. I avoid United, AirFrance, and AA mainly because their planes are always dirty and the service is so seeming perfunctory when Union dogma takes precedence over just service.
Love the Texas T storm in the background. Hats off to my fellow AAers. This is a part of the company I seldom get to see. These guys are true professionals.
I used to be the kind of guy who liked to think you could build things without the use of technology and electrical machinery but now i realize it's essential for high tech stuff like aircraft and mass production. THe chances of building a jet engine without modern technology machinery would be near impossible even with combined man power to haul the huge weight
Free energy has been here all along ,But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Find a motor that needs no fuel or input at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Start the revolution!
wow! this a really cool. i love planes so much and its cool to see what they do when they change engines and also they had some extra light from the lightning!
I must say, I download your video, as mp3, just to get the music, lol....
But really, cool video, I wonder, do you work as a mechanic? Cause no one has accent to get there, unless u work there, cause my father in law is a mechanic too.
I ask him if they let me to see you guys, and he said: "They dont allow anybody to be here, period".
This is a question for you math wizzes or engineers.
If one engine produces 92,000 lbs of thrust that means that both engines are producing 184,000 lbs of thrust at take off. What would that be in horsepower?
If you want a job being a jet engine machanic some of the best training you can get is in the Navy. You spend 20 years in the Navy, retire, and then come out and go to work for the airlines and make a bundle.
@IngloriusBastard11 ....Horsepower it a function of speed. (ie: RPM times torque) Thrust is merely a force. Without speed (motion) there is no horsepower. A large boulder resting on the ground mitght exert 1-Million pounds of force (thrust) against the ground....but it is producing ZERO horsepower.
There is ZERO horsepower produced untill the airplane moves. Then, the faster it goes, the more horsepower is actually produced.

I used to be the kind of guy who liked to think you could build things without the use of technology and electrical machinery but now i realize it's essential for high tech stuff like aircraft and mass production. THe chances of building a jet engine without modern technology machinery would be near impossible even with combined man power to haul the huge weight

STEVENG115 1 year ago
This is a question for you math wizzes or engineers.
If one engine produces 92,000 lbs of thrust that means that both engines are producing 184,000 lbs of thrust at take off. What would that be in horsepower?
IngloriusBastard11 1 year ago
If you want a job being a jet engine machanic some of the best training you can get is in the Navy. You spend 20 years in the Navy, retire, and then come out and go to work for the airlines and make a bundle.
IngloriusBastard11 1 year ago
@IngloriusBastard11 ....Horsepower it a function of speed. (ie: RPM times torque) Thrust is merely a force. Without speed (motion) there is no horsepower. A large boulder resting on the ground mitght exert 1-Million pounds of force (thrust) against the ground....but it is producing ZERO horsepower.
There is ZERO horsepower produced untill the airplane moves. Then, the faster it goes, the more horsepower is actually produced.
JGMagoo 1 year ago
Is that $15-Million for just one engine??
JGMagoo 1 year ago
@JGMagoo Correct, the GE90 however is $21 Million US Dollars.
